The Master of Clinical Education focuses on research and leadership skills. It builds on the foundation laid by the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Teaching and the Graduate Diploma of Clinical Education, allowing you to not only develop and deliver clinical teaching but be involved in leadership and change management in clinical education.
The course work will focus on learning practical leadership skills and the research component will enable you to develop skills in undertaking and critiquing clinical education research.
The Master of Clinical Education hones existing research and leadership skills to an advanced level to create clinical education leaders.
All Australian and international clinical teachers are welcome to apply for the Master of Clinical Education. The course is not available to students who require a student visa to reside and study in Australia. However, the intensive coursework option means that the course is accessible to both interstate and international clinicians.
The Master of Clinical Education is the final step in the series of Excellence in Clinical Teaching (EXCITE) nested award courses. The Graduate Programs in Surgical Education are a suite of qualifications co-badged with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and offered by the University of Melbourne through the Department of Surgery, Austin Health.
The programs' content recognises the unique challenges that characterise the clinical settings and the advanced technologies that are increasingly important in surgery and surgical training. Effective teaching skills are essential attributes for educators responsible for training the next generation of surgeons in the complex sets of skills required for safe surgical practice.
The programs allow surgeons to gain formal skills in teaching and educational scholarship. The content reflects critical issues in the broader education community together with specific challenges for surgical education - the role of regulatory bodies, balancing clinical service with training, ethical imperatives for simulation-based education, managing under performing trainees, developing professionalism, safer working conditions including safe hours and more.
The Master in Surgical Education is awarded on successful completion of the subjects required for the Graduate Diploma, including the compulsory subject Research Methods in Surgical Education PLUS completion of the Minor Thesis - Surgical Education. The Master of Surgical Education may also be completed by coursework.
The Graduate Certificate in Legal Education is a part time postgraduate program offered by the Faculty of Law that provides students with a detailed exposure to contemporary legal education theory and practice. The program will be of interest to academics teaching law at universities in Australia and the local region, including both junior academics and more experienced academics seeking to improve their understanding and practice of legal education. The program will also appeal to a wider audience including legal education scholars, legal training providers, Master of Laws students, professional staff in law schools, high school legal studies teachers and law firm human resources staff.
The Graduate Certificate in Legal Education comprises of four (4) subjects (40 CP) and is completed part-time over four semesters online and in intensive mode.
"Foundations of Legal Education" and "Capstone Research Project" are delivered using a combination of online modules and an intensive on-campus workshop. "Law Curriculum Design and Pedagogy" and "Teaching for Learning Success in Law" are delivered entirely online.
