Intensive Mode Delivery is a compact and time efficient way to complete a postgraduate qualification with minimal impact on professional and personal lifestyles. Each subject is delivered over two weekends during the semester. There are two sets of three-day sessions per subject, scheduled Thursday to Saturday (approximately six to eight contact hours per day) with a break of four or five weeks between session one and session two of each subject.

Participants will receive 40 hours of combined lectures, discussion groups, case studies and workshops during contact hours. International students are required to be on campus every week.

The Master of Building Surveying offers you the chance to increase your knowledge in the field of building surveying. You will study with world-class academics and experienced practitioners in one of Australia’s most environmentally friendly buildings. The program comprises two specialist subjects plus six shared core subjects. Completion of a further four postgraduate elective subjects, selected from the suite of programs offered by the Faculty of Society & Design will allow you to graduate with a Master of Building Surveying. 

Professional outcomes

Master of Building Surveying graduates will, with sufficient relevant experience, be able to practise as accredited building surveyors and certifiers. The program has been designed in consultation with the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors (AIBS) to ensure that the material covered is appropriate for people engaged in this field. Through this consultation graduates are assured that their qualifications meet the requirements of the profession. Graduates of the Master of Building Surveying program will meet the requirements under the AIBS Framework for accreditation as a Building Surveyor. The Building Professionals Board of New South Wales (BPB) will recognise graduates of the Master of Building Surveying program as meeting the requirements of Levels A1, 2, 3 and 4.

Bond University’s building surveying programs have been accredited by both the AIBS and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) thereby satisfying the educational requirements for accreditation at the level of Building Certifier Levels 1, 2 and 3 in Queensland. Upon gaining accreditation with the AIBS or RICS, graduates may be eligible for a licence as a building certifier with the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC). When licensed, graduates may practise in Queensland as building certifiers for local government or as private certifiers.

Professional recognition

This program is recognised internationally by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and nationally by the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors (AIBS). The BPB in New South Wales and QBCC in Queensland recognise the AIBS accreditation.

Course Structure

The course is structured in three parts.

Part A. Advanced architecture and design studios
These studies will focus on advanced concepts and skills relevant to architecture design. Through project based studio classes you will gain exposure to leading design practices. In conjunction with studios, you will select from a range of advanced architecture studies units, which are complementary depth units. Part B: Applied professional practices

- Advanced studies in design
This pathway allows you to construct, with approval, an individual program of study from across interaction design, multimedia design and collaborative design. This enables you to tailor your unit choices while addressing the fundamental principles of advanced design practice and thinking. It’ll inspire you to connect research and practice across the design disciplines, and to become a thoughtful design practitioner. You’ll broaden your knowledge of key design constructs, deepen your professional learning in design areas of interest, and advance your capacity as a design professional.

- Collaborative design
Collaborative design places you conceptually and practically at the intersection of interior, graphic and industrial design practice. The program will set you design challenges involving image, text, products, narratives, systems, ervices, public and private space, materiality and virtuality. You’ll develop independent conceptual and practical design skills alongside an ability to be part of collaborative design processes. You’ll expand your awareness across design disciplines; develop multidisciplinary design expertise; and build broader skills in leadership, professional adaptability and complex project planning.

- Interaction design
The interaction design specialisation develops your skills in the design of contemporary artefacts, products and services that engage with interactive, user-focused technologies and processes. These can include, but aren’t limited to, health and medical equipment, ‘smart’ furniture, educational toys, wearable technologies, information kiosks and transport systems. You’ll use a diverse range of interactive processes, including the application of advanced technologies; electronics and programming; physical and virtual interface manipulation; engineering and material fabrication; and rapid prototyping. The specialisation gives you an understanding of the relationship between interactive activities, products and human behaviour.

- Multimedia design
Multimedia design develops your skills in digital communication environments. This includes: designing for the web; motion and animation; and interactive touchscreen devices and surfaces. Emphasising an advanced knowledge of existing and emerging digital design processes and systems, this specialisation embraces projects of varied scale, from hand-held smart devices to large public interactive screens. It develops your ability to build a communication narrative; use multimedia processes to fill community and business needs; and understand the end-user’s engagement with projects or products such as websites, apps and other screen-based media.

Course Structure

The course comprises 96 points structured into 3 parts:

Part A. Preparatory Studies for Advanced Design (24 points), Part B. Advanced Design Studies (24 points), and Part C. Advanced Design Applications (48 points).

- Students admitted at Entry level 1 complete 96 points, comprising Part A, B & C
- Students admitted at Entry level 2 complete 72 points, comprising Part B & C
- Students admitted at Entry level 3 complete 48 points, comprising Part C

Note: Students eligible for credit for prior studies may elect not to receive the credit and complete one of the higher credit-point options. A zero credit point unit in Art, Design and Architecture Occupational Health and Safety will also be undertaken. This unit is required of all students in the Master of Design and must be undertaken even if credit is obtained for Parts A or B.

Part A: Preparatory studies for advanced design
These studies provide you with the conceptual thinking and technical skill set required for advanced postgraduate study in this area. The studio unit brings together conceptual and technical abilities developed in the other two units.

Part B: Advanced design studies
In these studies you will focus on the application of conceptual thinking and technical skills to advanced design problem solving. You will analyse and create a project outcome based on research, critique, and the application of design processes appropriate to your specialisation. You will also choose a selective unit that will further build capacity in your chosen specialisation.

Part C: Advanced design applications
In these studies you will focus on the application of advanced design problem solving skills at a professional level. You will consolidate skills and practice of design research methodologies and may extend your research trajectory to further study. Part C is also supported by a selective unit to allow you to build capabilities in your chosen specialisation.

In the final semester you will pursue a major design project or participate in a leading industry project. The exegesis unit formalises the research component of Part C. The final semester brings together advanced technical ability, conceptual thinking, entrepreneurial studies and design management in practice.

Information drives businesses. Without it, they cease to function. Whether for day-to-day operations or strategic decision-making, there is an imperative to record, manage and use information.

The Master of Business Information Systems (MBIS) prepares you for careers in systems design, planning and management, as well as knowledge and information management. You gain the expertise to design solutions to business information problems, and to offer strategic guidance to organisations that will enhance their management and governance.

As an MBIS graduate, you may find work as a business analyst, systems analyst, consultant, project leader, IT manager, information management specialist, archivist or librarian.

The MBIS caters to students from a variety of backgrounds. If you do not have previous training in IT, the course includes preparatory units that will give you the IT knowledge needed for the remainder of the course. However, if you already have a degree in IT, you can accelerate your study with an exemption from these preparatory units, or perhaps study further elective units in areas of your choice.

The course gives you an opportunity to explore a wide range of areas, from enterprise systems, information systems design, and business intelligence to IT strategy and project management.

If your interests lie in information and knowledge management, you can pursue a specialisation in Archives and Recordkeeping or Librarianship and Information Science, accredited by professional organisations.

In your final semester, you may take part in an Industry Experience program, working in a small team with industry mentors to develop entrepreneurial IT solutions. Or you may undertake a minor-thesis research project, investigating cutting-edge problems in BIS under the supervision of internationally recognised researchers.

High-achieving students who complete the research component may progress to further research study.

Archives and recordkeeping

Records managers and archivists ensure that vital records of social and organisational activity are created, managed and made available to business for accountability, corporate memory, enterprise knowledge and cultural purposes. Work settings include most major private and public sector organisations, and archival institutions. Knowledge managers are concerned with developing strategies and processes for managing organisational knowledge and knowledge flows to achieve organisational goals, enhance performance and add value. A particular concern is developing an environment conducive to the creation, sharing and application of organisational knowledge, and systems that support these processes.

Business information systems studies

The general form of the course gives students the skills and knowledge to solve organisational information problems. The course caters for students who would like to be business analysts, information systems consultants and IT managers. Students will learn about information technology principles, systems analysis and design, enterprise architecture and systems, IT management and governance and project management. Students can select from a range of business information systems units to focus their studies in several areas of interest including business intelligence, user experience design and business process modelling.

Library and information science

Librarians and information specialists manage information and provide information services to clients in a wide range of contexts. They are concerned with analysing information needs, solving information problems, evaluating information sources, organising information, synthesising information into targeted information products, and training clients in the use of information products, services and systems. They work for commercial, government and community sector organisations, for information consultancies and as independent information brokers.

Course Structure

The course is structured in three parts, A, B and C. All students complete Part B (core studies). Depending upon prior qualifications, you may receive credit for Part A (foundation studies) or Part C (advanced studies) or a combination of the two.

Note that if you are eligible for credit for prior studies you may elect not to receive the credit.

PART A. Foundations for advanced business information systems
These units provide an introduction to information systems and business concepts, including system design and analysis as applied in professional practice. You will learn basic software programming and development concepts and database technology.

These units are intended for students whose previous qualification is not in a cognate field.

PART B. Core Master's study
These studies draw on best practices within business information systems to gain critical understanding of the theories and practice relating to information systems and business process design, IT strategy, IT governance, IT management and related issues. Your study will focus on project management as well as a choice of several areas of enterprise IT and information management practice.

PART C. Advanced practice
The focus of these studies is professional or scholarly work in the broad realm of business information systems.

You have two options.

The first is a minor thesis research program, consisting of a research project and a research methods training unit. Students wishing to use this Masters course as a pathway to a higher degree by research should take this first option.

The second option is a program of coursework involving advanced study and an Industry experience studio project.

Students completing the combined specialisation Archives and Recordkeeping/Library and Information Science complete the industry experience program.

Students admitted to the course, who have a recognised honours degree in a discipline cognate to information systems, will receive credit for Part C, however, should they wish to complete a research project as part of the course they should consult with the course coordinator.

Creating pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' participation in planning education and community and regional planning initiatives in Northern Australia.
This course addresses a large void in the education market place, namely how the planning system can support the range of 'Close the Gap’ initiatives and will educate practicing planners on how to plan with, for and in Indigenous Communities, and provide an insight into the planning system for Indigenous people.

Who is it for?

This course is well placed to support the Aboriginal and Islander Councils in Queensland, and Aboriginal Organisations and Shire Councils in the Northern Territory, and will support International Development initiatives in the Pacific and South East Asia.
On completion of this you will have gained an understanding of, and an appreciation for:
*The political, legal and institutional contexts of planning in, with and for Indigenous communities;
*The importance of Indigenous knowledge, culture and perspectives in planning processes;
*Place based planning theory and methods that legitimises and respects Indigenous people’s connection to land, flora, fauna and water;
*Indigenous peoples’ property rights and the procedures and institutions established pursuant to legislation developed by both Commonwealth and State or Territory jurisdictions;

In addition to the permanent Faculty of award-winning practicing architects and published scholars, the Abedian School of Architecture has developed partnerships with leading educators and professionals around the world who actively contribute to the architectural program. 

State of the art resources

Students have complete access to all the Architecture equipment and studios. The School is characterized by very small class sizes in a dedicated studio environment. Students have 24/7 access to the brand new architecture building, designed by Sir Peter Cook and Gavin Robotham of CRAB Studio, London. A strong studio culture is driven by student collaboration, social engagement, and consistent one-on-one interaction with academic staff. The Workshop and Digital Fabrication Lab provides opportunities in design as part of the new generation of architecture. About the program

The Master of Architecture at the Abedian School of Architecture is designed to develop the emerging architectural professional to be fearless in their design ability, as well as possess the confidence to change the world and the habitats of the future through their creative design skills, imaginative vision, strategic thinking and technical proficiency. The Master of Architecture is delivered through a comprehensive design studio environment, current issues are debated through historical and philosophical architectural thought as well as contemporary states of urban habitation, challenges to a sustainable ecology and the ramifications of modern technology. Professional architectural concerns in law, contracts and ethics are also examined which prepare students for the commercial world of architectural practice. 

Professional accreditation

The Australian Institute of Architects and the Board of Architects of Queensland currently recognise and accredit the Master of Architecture program. The Bachelor of Architectural Studies is recognised as the normal pathway to the Master of Architecture.

Program structure

The Master of Architecture program is delivered within a comprehensive design studio environment. Each studio contains a combination of practical and professional applications, theoretical studies, technical proficiency and conceptual rigour. Each studio forms a discrete stage in the Masters sequence, culminating in a Master’s Thesis studio in the final semester of study, bringing integrated skills and knowledge together.

About the program

The combined Masters degree in Architecture and Project Management enables students interested in integrated design management to gain specialised knowledge related to the coordination of the design process and the maximisation of client satisfaction. The blurring of boundaries between the built environment disciplines is occurring as a response to client demand for more complex designs involving specialist knowledge. This is an international trend, underpinned by the need to deliver projects that ultimately reflect long life, loose fit and low energy. Graduates may also be involved in design optimisation, process re-engineering and value management within the confines of economic, social and environmental criteria. The combined degree provides a unique blend of studio-based architectural design and generic project management problem-solving abilities. A distinct feature of this program takes place during the final semester where students undertake work-based learning in an integrated design environment either in Australia or overseas. Studies can be achieved within three calendar years part-time given recent or concurrent employment. Upon completion of the combined program, graduates receive two separate accredited degrees.

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff has 34,000 employees, including engineers, technicians, scientists, architects, planners, surveyors, program and construction management professionals, and various environmental experts. Internships are available to students in the final semester of this combined degree, with students able to nominate their preferred location, meaning they can align the experience with their ultimate career goals or even future employment destinations.
