The recommended specialisation is Big Data, however, students also have the option to choose any other Bond Business School specialisation. The Master of Actuarial Science is taught in smaller classes for personalised attention and unparalleled access to Bond University's Macquarie Trading Room and Bloomberg data-sourcing terminals. The program will develop skills in the challenge of crunching 'big data' numbers to create practical solutions for real world problems. Employment opportunities include working as an investment analyst, portfolio manager or actuarial consultant.

The Master of Actuarial Practice at Bond University is a five-semester degree that provides those with an undergraduate degree in an alternative field the opportunity to complete all actuarial Part I and Part II subjects. In addition, you will have the opportunity to undertake a specialisation. The recommended specialisation is Big Data, however students also have the option to choose any other Bond Business School specialisation. This 92-week program contains a 20-week thesis component in the final semester designed to support learning, personal development and professional practice. Bond Actuarial graduates are thus very well placed in the job market and the skills are highly transferable between countries. Any completed relatable undergraduate program will also gain you up to 40 credit points towards the Master of Accounting program. 

Bond is the only university in Queensland to offer the fully accredited program by the Actuaries Institute.

In this course you will learn how to help organisations plan for the future and protect themselves from loss. Core units cover the principles of finance and investment science through to risk analysis and credibility theory.

You will also select optional units, which include practical mathematical financial modelling, applied statistics and numerical methods.

On completion of this course, your skills may be applied in the worlds of insurance, pensions, healthcare, banking, business management and risk assessment. You may also play a role in determining company policy and explaining complex technical matters to company executives, government officials, shareholders, policyholders, or the public in general.

Part I of the professional qualification covers the core technical skills that are essential knowledge for any actuary.

Completion of the following units as part of this degree with sufficiently good results may exempt students from Part I of the Actuaries Institute professional qualification requirements (subjects CT1 to CT8): CT1: ACST851, CT2: ACST852, CT3: STAT810 or STAT806, CT4: ACST818 and ACST819, CT5: ACST859 and ACST860, CT6: ACST861 and ACST862, CT7: ECON991, CT8: ACST816 and ACST817.

Part II covers the application of these core technical skills to the financial management and control of insurance companies and related entities. Completion of the units ACST831, ACST832 and ACST871, with sufficiently good results may meet the requirements for Part II of the Actuaries Institute.

Note:
Students who have passed some of the Part I or Part II examinations of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia, or equivalent, may be granted advanced standing of 16 credit points (four units) provided these exams have not been counted as credit towards an undergraduate degree.

Students with appropriate background may also be granted exemption from some or all of the four degree gateway units ACST601, ACST602, ACST603 and ACST604.

According to the Actuaries Institute the number of qualified actuaries in Australia as at May 2010 was 1755.
