What’s it like to study a Masters in Aberdeen?

Aberdeen’s history and identity are closely tied to its coastal position. It has a long association with shipbuilding and ocean fishing and is still an important centre for research in aquaculture and marine affairs.

Since the second half of the 20th century Aberdeen has also been an important hub for the exploitation of North Sea oil, but its energy industry is now diversifying, with significant research and investment in renewable sources.

Aberdeen offers a number of unique attractions and opportunities that enrich life for its postgraduate students. The extensive use of granite in the construction of the city’s many 19th-century buildings has given Aberdeen a striking appearance, reflected in its common nickname ‘the Silver City’. Particularly impressive examples are to be found in the city’s major theatres, art galleries and other civic buildings.

This unique architectural style is complemented by Aberdeen’s many attractive parks and gardens, which have won the national ‘Britain in Bloom’ competition a record number of times.

Beyond the city you’ll find opportunities to explore striking coastal landscapes or visit other Scottish towns and cities and, if you’re interested in going further afield, Aberdeen airport offers flights to plenty of international destinations.
