Research Excellence

Studying at Liverpool Hope gives you the opportunity to work with research-active academics, acclaimed visiting professors and professional tutors with extensive practitioner experience. We are ranked in the top 10 UK universities for the number of staff who hold doctoral qualifications*.

In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, 55 per cent of our academic staff submitted research and more than a third of this was rated as 'world leading' or 'internationally excellent'. Research Outputs were rated as ‘world leading’ in eight Units of Assessment – English, Psychology, History, Music, Education, Sport and Exercise Science, Theology and Social Work and Social Policy. The Times Higher Education ranked Liverpool Hope as fourth in the North West for Research Intensity.

We have invested more than £60m in our facilities over the last eight years, and Phase 1 of our latest development, a new £8.5 million Health Sciences building, was completed in January 2016. Phase 2, a high-spec sports complex, will open in October.

Our postgraduate students are encouraged to get involved with our research centres or projects, along with the University’s postgraduate seminar series. Our research centres currently include: Centre for Culture and Disability Studies; Andrew F. Walls Centre for the Study of African and Asian Christianity; Archbishop Desmond Tutu Centre for War and Peace Studies; Centre for Education and Policy Analysis.

The Sheppard-Worlock Library and Creative Campus Library contain a core print collection of over 350,000 items, and students have access to special collections and extensive online resources.

Our Research Skills Programme is a series of generic, transferable skills courses designed for Postgraduate Research students, to help you complete your degree and also develop skills to aid your employability. Our Postgraduate Taught students benefit from undertaking a Research Phase.

All students have access to My Careers Centre – an online portal with interactive tools and advice. Our Employability Hub offers workshops with employers, careers fairs, a regular employability bulletin and advice on gaining both voluntary work experience and paid work.

New Masters courses include Exercise and Ageing MSc (for 2017 entry, subject to validation) and Cognitive Neuroscience & Neuroimaging MSc.
