Why this course?

This MSc programme combines knowledge of the engineering and medical sciences with advances in technology and practice to generate applications and solutions to clinically relevant problems.

It affords a Masters level degree in this clinical area, while considering globally the effects of disability within a population and society’s approaches globally.

This is one of the few programmes globally that offers a specific degree in prosthetics and orthotics. The National Centre for Prosthetics and Orthotics (NCPO) has an international reputation for quality education within this field. The staff of the NCPO is involved in research and clinical practice both nationally and internationally.

The main aim of the course is to produce postgraduates capable of developing careers in allied health professionals and biomedical engineering (research, industrial and NHS).

We require candidates first degree to be in Prosthetics & Orthotics. Our learning environment brings together ideas and concepts from science, medicine and engineering to enable the development of relevant clinical and industrial research.

What you'll study

Taught classes, laboratory demonstrations, practical exercises and clinical visits take place during semesters 1 and 2. Diploma students then complete a project dissertation and MSc students complete a research or development project reported by a thesis.

Facilities

The Department of Biomedical Engineering consists of the Bioengineering Unit and the National Centre for Prosthetics and Orthotics – two complementary and key areas of health technology teaching and research within the University.

The National Centre for Prosthetics and Orthotics was established in 1972, growing out of the Bioengineering Unit at the University of Strathclyde, which was established more than 50 years ago, both being internationally-recognised centres of excellence for education and research at the interface of engineering and the medical science, with particular emphasis on clinically-related teaching and research. The new department of Biomedical Engineering in 2012 was formed through the merger of these two esteemed units.

Research areas include:

Rehabilitation Engineering
Medical Devices
Diagnostic Technologies: the Foot in Diabetes

GLENDONBROOK INSTITUTE FOR ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT

Entrepreneurship will be studied in the context of both academic theory and self-reflection to see if you personally have the qualities to take action and make an idea happen.
Failure in business is often seen as a negative outcome but there are vital lessons that can be learnt from failing and we will put this into context with the reasons why many organisations do fail, how to avoid it and how to wind up a company successfully if you do fail.

The world is in a global recession. Innovation has been placed at the heart of international policy to drive jobs, growth and recovery but what is the innovation process? How do we best support innovation to catalyse growth and bring renewed prosperity? How do we encourage people to display entrepreneurial behaviour and show them that, with the right resources and attitudes, ideas can be turned into profitable products and services?

This programme analyses the Entrepreneur and the innovation process giving you the opportunity to explore and reflect on the skills needed for success. As well as the ability to set up their own venture, graduates of this programme will also have the skills to progress into large blue chip companies and work in R&D management, developing new products, markets and customer segments.

The Glendonbrook Institute for Enterprise Development’s aim is to encourage you to develop enterprising and innovative skills through the programme’s dedicated modules. In a few cases, you show true entrepreneurial behaviour by running or aspiring to set up your own businesses and we’ll provide support for you to do so via a range of formal and informal services.

Our programme provides you with in-depth teaching of subjects that are often only briefly mentioned in traditional business programmes – intellectual property; sources of funding for small business and business failure will all be studied as complete modules. Intellectual property is of vital importance to the entrepreneur, we have also devoted a whole module to studying the details and practical application of this rarely studied topic.

In addition, the Collaborative Project module will provide you with the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial skills such as problem solving and strategic planning whilst working together on a real business problem.

See the website http://www.lborolondon.ac.uk/study/institutes-programmes/entrepreneurship-and-innovation-management/

Programme Aims

a) Develop an understanding of the importance of an entrepreneurial attitude in individuals and organisations
b) Develop your critical thinking skills, in order to evaluate the factors affecting the success of the innovation process
c) Use action based learning to develop insight into the complexity of the innovation process, analysing and evaluating problems and responding to challenges in real time
d) Develop your awareness of the help and information available to new organisations and the sources of funding they can attract
e) To provide you with the skills of advanced networking and team working in order to compete in a rapidly changing business environment

Programme Structure

To complete the MSc Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management, students must complete 8 x 15 credit modules. All students must complete a Dissertation worth 60 credits. Students will pick a second subject from the list of nominated second subject modules offered by the other Loughborough University in London Institutes in the first semester.

As this programme provides you with a robust understanding of business and the innovation process, along with the skills required to take action, you will be well placed to succeed in the today’s marketplace. GLENDONBROOK INSTITUTE FOR ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT

This programme is a unique opportunity for true collaboration between the disciplines of Design and Business to study Innovation Management with the emphasis on the creative sector.
Innovative and creative organisations lie at the heart of delivering the recovery and growth required in times of recession. Learning to manage the resources needed for successful innovation of creative services and products will be key to the success of these organisations.

The problem faced by designers is not necessarily producing novel products but how to bring them to market. Providing a robust understanding of the innovation process will help entrepreneurial designers to turn their ideas into reality.

This degree programme builds upon the internationally recognised profiles of the Loughborough Design School and the School of Business and Economics; the combined expertise of academic staff from these two schools offers a unique experience in London to develop your skills and knowledge.

You will study entrepreneurship in the context of both academic theory and self-reflection to see if you personally have the qualities to take action and make an idea happen. Intellectual property is of vital importance to the entrepreneur in creative industries and we have devoted a whole module to studying the details and practical application of this rarely studied topic.

Foresight and strategy looks to the future and considers the influence of technology on society and the impact it will have on creative organisations.

The interdisciplinary live project module will provide you with the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial skills such as problem solving and strategic planning whilst working together on a real business problem.

See the website http://www.lborolondon.ac.uk/study/institutes-programmes/managing-innovation-in-creative-organisations/

Programme Aims

a) Develop your critical thinking in order to evaluate the factors affecting the success of the innovation process and its application in creative organisations
b) Use academic and action based learning to gain insight into the complexity of the innovation process, analysing and evaluating problems and responding to challenges through case studies and in real time
c) Develop your understanding of the innovation and design processes, analysing and evaluating their use through practical and theoretical projects
d) Develop your approach to user centred innovation opportunities
e) To equip you with the insight to consider the future to inform design solutions and business strategy
f) To provide you with the skills of advanced networking and team working in order to compete in a rapidly changing business environment

Programme Structure

To complete the MSc Managing Innovation in Creative Organisations students must complete 8 x 15 credit modules. All students must complete a Dissertation worth 60 credits.
