Children's nurses care for children and young people from birth to 18 years old in hospital and in the community. Children and young people can present with a range of conditions, from birth defects, accidents and injuries, to life-limiting or critical illnesses or which can result in the death of a child. Children's nurses work in partnership with the child/young person, their parents and carers, involving them in the planning and delivery of their child's care and treatment. Children's nurses, in collaboration with other professionals, strive to promote health in children and young people to ensure they enter into adulthood in good health.

This innovative and intensive two-year course aimed at students with an existing degree (2:2 or above) will equip you with the knowledge and skills to assess and manage the nursing care needs of children and families, including those with acute and long-term conditions. The course will also develop your abilities to consider the wider aspects influencing children's health needs, preparing you for future leadership in a changing and challenging health care system.

You'll experience a variety of clinical settings such as NHS acute Trusts, community placements, independent sector and voluntary sector organisations. You'll also have a placement within a community healthcare setting.

Practice experience is gained in several world-renowned central and outer London hospitals including:

• Evelina London Children's Hospital
• Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust
• Variety Children's Hospital at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
• University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

You will be allocated one of these hospitals as your host Trust during the course.

Success on this course makes you eligible to register as a children's nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

Placements

Time spent on placement
During the course you will spend 50% of your time involved in academic study and 50% in clinical practice within a broad variety of healthcare settings. A clinical practice placement allows you to put theory into practice by working with a range of health professionals in clinical situations to develop the skills, knowledge and experience required to become a competent nurse. Although sometimes initially challenging, practice learning is one of the most interesting and exciting aspects of learning to be a nurse.

Structure of placements
Placements are spread over the two years:

Your initial placements are designed to introduce you to working in a professional setting and to develop essential care and basic assessment skills, infection control and learn about safeguarding vulnerable people.

You will then build on the experience gained from Year one and will begin to take on more responsibility, progressing your clinical reasoning skills and begin to look after small groups of patients making confident, proactive decisions for their health and management with less supervision.

You will also have the opportunity to choose a four week elective placement in which you can pick a speciality (e.g. working with Clinical Nurse Specialists, specialist services or independent and 3rd sector providers), or a different context of care (e.g. prison, private health care facility, social care, charity, hospice etc.), or a lived experience of a certain condition (e.g. charity work, carer shadowing, etc.) During your final year, you will require less supervision and will be responsible for a small group of patients.

Whilst in the clinical placement we ensure our nursing students receive continuous support and guidance from a dedicated mentor and practice learning teams made up of lecturers and practitioners.

Facilities

Children's skills laboratories
We have two Children's skills laboratories which are set up like nursing wards. The skills labs are used by all student nurses throughout their on-campus study time at LSBU. They learn manual handling of patients, basic life support skills and skills specific to the field of nursing.

SimMan
The nursing wards have simulator mannequins; SimMan, SimBaby and SimMom. These life-size mannequins are computer controlled and can be programmed with various clinical conditions. These are operated by a computer in real-time and so respond to a students' actions. They also allow students to see the outcome of specific interventions in certain scenarios, which could make the patient better or deteriorate quite quickly.

The mannequins are used to teach students how to recognise clinical signs, and to also associate those clinical signs with the actions they are taking to care for the patient. SimMan can be male or female with fully accurate anatomy and can breathe, blink, sweat, speak and groan in pain as well as have a pulse.

Professional links

Children's nurses work in a child-centred and multi-professional team, which is reflected in the variety of people who contribute to the course. Expert speakers include service users, such as parents and charitable organisations, expert practitioners and other lead professionals in child health and children's nursing.

Career progression

All graduates are offered the opportunity to apply for employment with the NHS Trusts and hospitals where they gained experience during training when posts are available. The course has an excellent record in graduate employment, including working overseas, and covering a range of qualified nurse positions.

Successful graduates of the PgDip can top-up to an MSc in one year and will be qualified to study a range of further specialist postgraduate pathways. With additional experience, advanced practice is available at masters level with the potential to progress to doctorate studies. Although, demanding and intense work, it can also be exceptionally rewarding.

This innovative two year course will prepare you for a career in a wide range of rewarding adult nursing opportunities across both general medical and surgical wards as well as specialist units such as Accident and Emergency or intensive care. Many of our graduates take their first posts as qualified practitioners in the NHS Trusts and hospitals in which they gained experience during their training.

Throughout the course you will have the opportunity to work with qualified practitioners both to gain experience of the differing clinical environments, and to appreciate the expertise of these specialist nurses whilst on placement.

Top-up to MSc

This programme of study, skills development and placement experience allows you to build upon a first degree in biosciences, life sciences or health sciences in order to function as a qualified physician associate.

The programme teaches you to assess, diagnose and manage medical problems competently, consulting with patients presenting with a variety of specified conditions on behalf of, and under supervision of, a senior experienced doctor.

By the end of the programme, you will be able to deliver holistic medical care and treatment to a standard defined by the National Examination for Physician Associates, which will enable you to work in either Primary or Secondary Care.

Programme structure

The programme consists of eight taught modules.

On successful completion of the programme, students will receive a Post Graduate Diploma in Physician Associate Studies, but will also need to sit a National Examination comprising a written paper and OSCE examination, set by the Faculty of Physician Associates at the Royal College of Physicians, in order to be able to practise in the NHS.

On passing the National Examinations, the graduate can be registered on the National Register (currently a Voluntary Register but awaiting accreditation and appointment of a Regulatory Body). The graduate can only work as a physician associate in the NHS if he/she is on this National Register.

What is a physician associate?

Physician associates support doctors in the diagnosis and management of patients. As a physician associate, you might work in a GP surgery or be based in a hospital, but wherever you work, you'll have direct contact with patients.

You’ll be trained to perform a number of day-to- day tasks including:

  • Taking medical histories
  • Performing examinations
  • Diagnosing illnesses
  • Analysing test results
  • Developing management plans

Collaboration

This programme will be delivered through collaboration with Health Education Kent, Surrey and Sussex and engagement with Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS), Canterbury and Christchurch University (CCU) and the University of Kent.

The majority of teaching, however, will be conducted by Surrey staff and local NHS clinicians. The four HEIs (including Surrey) may share facilities in areas of individual specialist expertise, although teaching will be conducted by Surrey staff.

Working with local NHS Trusts (primary and community care, acute, secondary care and mental health) will enable elements including work-based assessments and summative assessments (the clinical OSCEs).

Surrey Health Partners

The University of Surrey is part of the Surrey Health Partners Alliance, bringing together NHS Trusts in Surrey with the University to enhance learning and teaching, research and clinical practice.

The local Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs, covering GP practices) and NHS Health Trusts (covering hospitals, community care and psychiatric care) are all represented fully within Surrey Health Partners.

Career opportunities

Following successful graduation from this Diploma course, you will need to sit the National Assessment for Physician Associates, set by the Faculty of Physician Associates at the Royal College of Physicians, London.

Passing the National Assessment will allow you to be put onto the National Register for Physician Associates, so that you can practise clinically in the UK.

Career prospects

The predicted growth of the physician associate role across the NHS to fill an important resource gap indicates strong continued employment prospects for graduates. Physician associates will pursue a profession that is supported by the NHS and the Department of Health: over 30 hospitals currently employ PAs across the UK and the numbers are growing fast.

Health Education Kent, Surrey and Sussex aims to produce PAs who can work in primary as well as secondary care.

Educational aims of the programme

The overarching educational aim of the programme is to train graduates with a first degree in Biosciences, Life Sciences or Health Sciences, or suitable approved programme, to Post Graduate Diploma level, to function as a qualified physician associate (on passing the National Examination).

Physician associates will be able to:

  • Deliver holistic medical care and treatment under defined levels of supervision, in acute and primary care settings in the National Health Service.
  • Work effectively with patients and multi-disciplinary healthcare teams from diverse backgrounds.
  • Use a patient-centred approach, and be expert communicators, ensuring patient safety at all times
  • Promote health and wellbeing on an individual and population basis
  • Engage in reflective practice, work within the limits of their competence and engage actively in lifelong learning and professional development

This training includes the necessary knowledge, skills and professional attitudes needed to work to the medical model, demonstrating safe medical practice, medical competence, compassion, reflective and critical thinking in diagnostic reasoning and clinical management.

Graduates will be able to assess, diagnose and manage medical problems competently, consulting with patients presenting with a variety of specified conditions on behalf of, and under supervision of a senior experienced doctor.

They will be able to understand and demonstrate the principles of safe and effective prescribing.

Entry Requirements:
You should possess a BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic / Therapeutic Radiography or equivalent qualification e.g. a Diploma of the College of Radiographers. Applicants who are applying outside of the UK require an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 7 with no element below 6.5.

For reporting qualifications you should be currently practising, with at least two years’ post-qualification experience as a radiographer.

The Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences has a reputation for developing innovative courses to meet the demands of NHS Trusts who require staff training in order to meet the demands of an ever changing NHS.

The courses are aimed at those with a current qualification and registration as radiographer, or other health care professional, registered with the HCPC who wish to enhance their qualifications and skills and to prepare themselves for the extended roles that they are expected to embrace. Applications are welcome from nurses who wish to enhance their scope of practice.

The available courses are designed to enable you to evaluate the relationship between technology, managerial responsibility and policy. As increasing emphasis is being placed on hospital-based research to support evidence-based practice, the courses also aim to enhance your abilities to critically evaluate research findings to benefit service provision, and thus ensure that the patient remains at the centre of everything that we do.

Course structure:
The available accreditations can be studied part time to fit around your personal and professional commitments.

Each single module requires a notional 200 hours of study. Most single modules are delivered either during the afternoon or evening or, on the named pathways, on a two or three day block-release basis, with the clinical component taking place in your workplace under the direction of a clinical supervisor.

Most students are successful at their first attempt of assessment.

The named pathways for Appendicular and Axial Skeletal Reporting have attracted students from as far afield as Denmark and Holland.

Regardless of the specialist area, a PgCert involves three single 20 credit modules or one double (40 credit) and one single (20 credit) module.

You must study the single module Leadership for Advanced Professional Practice for the PgCert and Research; Methods of Enquiry module for the PgDip award as this will help prepare you for your dissertation towards your MSc Radiography.

For a Master’s, you must have completed a total of 120 credits. You will then undertake a research project where you will be offered workshops and tutorials and will be required to submit a dissertation not exceeding 20,000 words.

This MSc course addresses scientific, technological and legislative aspects of the diagnosis (analysis and assessment) and management (remediation and restoration) of important environmental issues concerned with contaminated land, water quality, air pollution and waste.

It has been designed with industry advice to enable good science and engineering graduates begin and advance successful careers in the environmental sector, and pursue postgraduate scientific research. The MSc is delivered in first-class teaching and research facilities by a dedicated team of internationally renowned environmental scientists, and presents considerable interaction with environmental consultancies and engineers, industry, local and regulatory authorities, and research institutes.

During 2007-2011, the course was supported by 6 NERC studentships, the most awarded annually to an environmental MSc. Students on the course have won the most EMpower research projects funded by companies within the nuclear industry, and since 2008, a Prize for Best Performance Overall has been awarded annually by Arup, a global environmental engineering and consultancy company.

Provides practical computer-based training in statistical analysis of environmental data, geographical information systems, and environmental risk assessment.

- Environmental Organic Chemistry Pathways Toxicology
Comprises physical and chemical properties, transport, fate and distribution, and toxicology of organic compounds in the environment.

- Contaminated Land Case Study
A practical laboratory and field-work based human health risk assessment of pollutant linkages at a former gravel extraction and landfill site. It comprises desk-top study, site investigation and sampling, laboratory analysis, data interpretation, quantitative risk assessment, and remediation options.

- Water Quality: Diagnosis & Management
A practical laboratory and field-work based introduction to aquatic science, hydrogeology, treatment of water and wastewater, and chemical, biological and physical monitoring of water quality. Includes a study visit to a global manufacturer of pesticides and herbicides.

- River Thames Basin Case Study
A combination of fieldwork, laboratory work and desk-top study to diagnose water quality in chemical and ecological terms, to identify industrial and agricultural pollutant linkages, and to determine environmental, ecological and health impacts.

- Air Pollution: Monitoring, Impacts & Management
Covers: sources, sinks, dispersion, conversion, monitoring, impacts and management of air pollutants with study visits to a local authority and a government research institute.

- Royal Holloway Campus Air Quality Case Study
Involves a consultancy company-style investigation of ambient and indoor air quality within the confines of RHUL campus; and combines desk-top research with practical fieldwork and laboratory analysis.

- Waste Management & Utilisation
Considers municipal, industrial and radioactive waste management options, with study visits to a landfill site, a waste incinerator, composting facility, recycling centre and nuclear power station.

- Independent Research Project
Consists of a four-month, independent scientific investigation, usually in collaboration with environmental consultants and engineers, local and regulatory authorities, industry, research institutes, and universities. Projects may comprise a desk-top study or practical laboratory and field investigation, they may be funded, and often lead to employment or to PhD research. Final results are presented at the Research Project Symposium to an audience from within the environmental sector

On completion of the course graduates will have acquired the experience, knowledge, and critical understanding to enable them to:

Sport scientists

Sport scientists support athletes or sports clubs, they generally provide advice and support, designed to monitor and improve sport performance, alongside a team of specialists including coaches, psychologist, performance managers and medical staff. Areas of expertise include • strength and conditioning • physiology • nutrition and analysis of movement and tactical performance.

Exercise scientists

Exercise scientists are more concerned with improving a person's health and helping them recover from illness through a structured programme of physical activity and other health-based interventions. They are also involved with preventative treatments and work closely with GPs and primary care trusts or private healthcare organisations. Exercise scientists might be employed by local authorities to run community based health and exercise initiatives.

It may be possible to move into a particular clinical area, such as cardiology, or work as a health promotion specialist for a local authority or healthcare trust. Our close links with the National Centre for Sport and Exercise medicine, part of which is based in Sheffield, will provide additional opportunities to those wishing to pursue careers in this area.

MEd and PG Diploma in Surgical Education

The MEd and PG Diploma in Surgical Education programme aims to challenge your thinking and develop your practice as a surgical educator. The programme offers a sound theoretical background to the principles of surgical education, an introduction to educational research methods, and the opportunity for intellectual growth and development within a stimulating and supportive environment. Its face-to-face nature enables dynamic discussion amongst your peers and tutors and fosters a community atmosphere from which to collaborate and develop your educational interests.

Programme structure
The PG Diploma consists of Modules 1-7, is available in part-time study mode only, and is delivered over a ten-month period.

The MEd qualification consists of eight modules (Modules 1-8), completed in full or part-time study mode.

The programme comprises five core modules (Modules 1-5) each consisting of one week intensive contact teaching time with further private study required to complete module preparation, coursework and assessment.

The modules consist of:

Module 1 - Policy and context of surgical education (mid October)
Module 2 - Introduction to learning and teaching (late November)
Module 3 - Introduction to assessment and appraisal (mid January)
Module 4 - Introduction to simulation and technology enhanced learning (late February)
Module 5 - Theory and practice of learning, teaching and assessment (late March)

Modules 1-5 are assessed by extended writing. Module coursework can be done in a range of formats but is typically carried out in small groups, often during the module.

Module 6a/b - Surgical Education Specialty Stream and Design Project: Selected at the beginning of the course this module provides an opportunity for students to study an area of interest at greater depth. The module includes individual study, three days face-to-face teaching (mid May 2017), and assessment.

Module 7 - Reflection for Surgical Education Project: Spans the PG Diploma stage and draws on learning across the modules to produce a reflective portfolio on teaching and learning.

Those continuing on to the MEd, or doing the MEd in full-time study mode, will also complete:

Module 8a/b - Research methods (8a) and educational research project (8b): Comprises a taught educational research methods element (8a) and conducting an individually supervised research project, written up as a dissertation (8b).

Part-time MEd students complete Module 8 during year-two of the course (e.g. in November).

Minimum academic requirement:
Normally a 2.1 UK honours degree in a science, engineering, computing, healthcare or education subject plus basic computing experience. We also accept international qualifications of an equivalent standard. For guidance see our Country Index.

Format

Highly experienced and supportive tutors, drawn from legal practice, as well as the academic side of law, will enable you to develop your knowledge quickly.

Each topic will be based on an introductory lecture, followed by a workshop in a large group and then a smaller-group seminar. Both the workshops and seminars are highly interactive, and are designed to give you a deeper understanding of the material covered, and how it can be applied to practical contexts.

You will research and discuss real cases and legislation, based on current developments in law, giving you a valuable insight into situations you are likely to face in your legal career.

Assessment

As is required by the professional regulatory bodies, the main form of assessment for the GDL is through examinations, which are held at the end of each teaching block. Some modules also include a coursework element of 25%.

The Independent Research Project will be assessed through your 4,000-5,000 word mini dissertation, which you will write in response to your allocated research task.

Mock assessments with feedback will be given to help you monitor and improve your performance, and help you deal effectively with all forms of assessment. Two past examination papers will also be available in order to prepare you for examinations.

Careers / Further study

Studying for the GDL is a stepping stone in achieving a successful career as a solicitor or barrister. Many students who complete the GDL go on to study the Legal Practice Course (LPC) or Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) to achieve these career ambitions.

Format

Highly experienced and supportive tutors, drawn from legal practice, as well as the academic side of law, will enable you to develop your knowledge quickly.

Each topic will be based on an introductory large group session and then a smaller group seminar. Both the large group session and seminars are highly interactive, and are designed to give you a deeper understanding of the material covered, and how it can be applied to practical contexts.

You will research and discuss real cases and legislation, based on current developments in law, giving you a valuable insight into situations you are likely to face in your legal career.

Assessment

As is required by the professional regulatory bodies, the main form of assessment for the GDL is through examinations, which are held at the end of each year of the course. Some modules also include a coursework element of 25%.

The Independent Research Project will be assessed through your 4,000-5,000 word mini dissertation, which you will write in response to your allocated research task.

Practice questions with feedback will be given to help you monitor and improve your performance, and help you deal effectively with all forms of assessment. Two past examination papers will also be available in order to prepare you for examinations.

Careers / Further study

Studying for the GDL is a stepping stone in achieving a successful career as a solicitor or barrister. Many students who complete the GDL go on to study the Legal Practice Course (LPC) or Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) to achieve these career ambitions.

The Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) and Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) can be studied on a part-time basis, with students completing 60 credits in one year for the Postgraduate Certificate or 120 credits over two years for the Postgraduate Diploma. Programme structure

All students are initially registered for five years. The programme is part-time. On successful completion of the Postgraduate Certificate Education for Professional Practice programme NMC registered practitioners may apply to the Nursing and Midwifery Council for recognition of their Qualified Teacher Status and be recorded on their Registration record.

The programme is in line with the NMC Standards for Learning and Teaching in Practice (2008).

Example module listing

This pathway is open to individuals from health care environments who wish to extend their knowledge, skills and develop their understanding through critical thinking and analysis.

For nurses and midwives, this forms part of the NMC standards for Supporting Learning and Assessing in Practice (Stage 4 - Teacher).

On completion of the three core modules, plus the requisite 360 teaching hours, the nurse or midwife can record this study as meeting the standards for the qualified teacher and therefore register the qualification with the NMC.

Learning and teaching module selection

The ethos of the programme is based on an individual’s developmental learning journey and, as such, commences at the initial applicant enquiry.

It is at this stage that an informal discussion will take place possibly with the administrator, module leader and/or the Director of Studies (DOS) to offer information regarding the modules/programmes whether it is Mentorship, Practice Teacher or Qualified Teacher.

Through this enquiry, a general discussion takes place that will assist the individual to make an informed decision as to the right journey of learning based on their learning needs, taking into account previous study and the requirements for their professional role in learning and teaching.

A nurse or midwife could apply for AP(E)L for up to 100 per cent against the Mentorship programme and the Practice Teacher qualification if appropriate study has been successfully completed.

This process takes place rarely but the mechanism is still in place. Each application for AP(E)L is considered on an individual basis by the AP(E)L committee using the University’s standard AP(E)L procedures.

Mentorship module

The Mentorship module can be accessed by a variety of health care professionals who have a responsibility to support learning in practice and forms part of the NMC standards for Supporting Learning and Assessment in Practice (Mentor).

A nurse or midwife wishing to undertake this module will be required to have one year’s post-qualification experience prior to attending. In preparation for this module, you would be encouraged to engage in the Associate Mentor preparation provision, which will be offered within NHS Trusts, led by Trust personnel with educational responsibilities.

The Mentorship module is a generic module (offered at FHEQ Level 6 and FHEQ Level 7) and forms part of the NMC standards to support learning and assessment in practice (stage 2 – Mentor).

It assists participants to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills through exploration, enquiry and reflexivity, aiming to develop and enhance effective assessment and facilitation skills.

Students will have an opportunity to explore learning and teaching strategies relevant to practice; assessment and evaluation in the context of giving feedback, measuring achievements, competence and quality.

The exciting challenge is to contextualise these areas for each student to ensure that the learning experience is meaningful.

Those who show an aptitude for learning, teaching and supporting learners or a keen interest in this area will be actively encouraged to progress on to further study.

Practice Teacher qualification

The Practice Teacher NMC qualification can be accessed by individuals on the NMC register. This pathway includes Supporting Education in Practice, and the Practice Module for the Practice Teacher.

Both modules are offered at FHEQ level 7. Pre-requisite study for this qualification is Mentorship FHEQ Level 6 or FHEQ Level 7.

This qualification forms part of the NMC standards for Supporting Learning and Assessment in Practice (Stage 3 – Practice Teacher), which offers preparation for Primary Care nurses who are supporting learners undertaking Specialist Community Public Health nursing qualifications and Specialist Practice qualifications.

Throughout the Practice Teacher programme, Practice Teacher students are supported by a qualified Practice Teacher to assist in developing skills associated with supporting specialist practice students.

Undertaking the Supporting Education in Practice module gives the opportunity for the student Practice Teachers to consider and critically evaluate links between theory and practice, and to explore strategies relevant for the facilitation and support of learning within the workplace.

The Practice Module for the Practice Teacher is an effective strategy to test and extend your skills in supporting specialist practice students throughout their specialist practice programme.

Opportunities are given to actively be involved in formative and summative assessments whilst being supported by a qualified Practice Teacher.

On successful completion of the Supporting Education in Practice module and the Practice Module for the Practice Teacher, the nurse can record this study as meeting the NMC standards for the Practice Teacher Qualification and be annotated on the local register of Practice Teachers which is held and maintained within their Trust.

Description

The Orthodontics MSc programme is based at King’s College London Dental Institute with clinical treatment clinics at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, which collectively with King’s College London form King’s Health Partners. Orthodontic trainees also rotate out to undertake patient treatment sessions at a number of peripheral hospital units within South East England.

The programme is based on the UK General Dental Council Orthodontic curriculum and is delivered through lectures, practical and technical teaching elements, clinical seminars, tutorials, self-directed learning, supervised clinical treatment of patients and attendance on diagnostic and multidisciplinary outpatient clinics.

Academic and clinical teaching is supported by a local virtual learning environment and also through access to the British Orthodontic Society national on-line learning programme. Assessment is through written, oral and practical examinations, clinical work-based assessments, case presentations, patient logbooks and the submission of a research dissertation.

Students undertake a dedicated research project as part of their course and the Dental Institute at King’s provides an environment enriched with internationally recognized academics to facilitate this. In recent years, students have undertaken projects incorporating many different subject areas including clinical orthodontics, craniofacial biology, dental materials science, clinical psychology and dental public health.

Students are encouraged to register and undertake a King’s Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice to further develop their educational skills. The programme complies with the principles of Erasmus and supports the European Union directives on specialisation in orthodontics.

Course purpose

The programme prepares you for the Membership in Orthodontics (MOrth) of one of the United Kingdom Royal Surgical Colleges, currently under conjoint status with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Passing the conjoint MSc examination will be complemented by a pass in the MOrth of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Course format and assessment

The usual training period is a minimum of 4,500 hours over the degree (3 years) whole-time or agreed equivalent within the framework of a less than full-time training programme.

The programme content is apportioned approximately as:

  • 60% clinical
  • 25% academic
  • 15% research

This time allocation is flexible and will depend upon the capacity of the trainees to complete the curriculum to a competent level.

As we are seeking to identify your suitability for this clinical environment, we expect our interviewees to adopt the dress code required of clinical dental students at King's and/or Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Trust. Further information will be given should you choose to apply. Entry to the programme is strictly dependent upon occupational health clearance that you are able to conduct exposure prone procedures (EPPs) before you start clinical work.

This will assess your hepatitis B surface antigen and hepatitis C antibody status, HIV and TB status following the completion of a health questionnaire and a further health check before or at enrolment. If offered a place on the course, overseas students are advised to be tested locally and send the results of these checks with the questionnaire, prior to a separate full test in the UK at the College's Occupational Health Department before term begins.
