The MSc in Experimental and Translational Therapeutics is a part-time course consisting of six modules and a research project and dissertation. The programme is normally completed in two to three years. Students are full members of the University of Oxford and are matriculated as members of an Oxford college.
The modules in this programme can also be taken as individual short courses. It is possible to transfer credit from up to three previously completed modules into the MSc programme, if the time elapsed between commencement of the accredited module(s) and registration for the MSc is not more than two years.

The aim of the MSc programme is to provide students with the necessary training and practical experience to enable them to understand the principles that underpin clinical research, and to enable them to translate that understanding into good clinical and research practice.
By the end of the MSc programme, students should understand the following core principles:
- Development, marketing and regulations of drugs
- Pharmaceutical factors that affect drug therapy
- Pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenetics and pharmacodynamics
- Adverse drug reactions, drug interactions, and pharmacovigilance
- Designing phase I, II and III clinical trials for a range of novel therapeutic interventions (and imaging agents).
- Application of statistics to medicine
- Laboratory assays used to support trial end-points
- Use of non-invasive imaging in drug development
- Application of analytical techniques
By the end of the programme, students should be equipped to:
- demonstrate a knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques for solving clinical research problems and translate this into good clinical and research practice

- develop skills in managing research-based work in experimental therapeutics
- carry out an extended research project involving a literature review, problem specification and analysis in experimental therapeutics and write a short dissertation
Guidance from the UK Royal College of Physician's Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine
The Faculty have confirmed that if enrolled for Pharmaceutical Medicine Specialty Training (PMST), trainees may be able to use knowledge provided by Experimental Therapeutics modules to cover aspects of a module of the PMST curriculum. Trainees are advised to discuss this with their Educational Supervisor.
Experimental Therapeutics modules may also be used to provide those pursuing the Faculty's Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine (DPM) with the necessary knowledge required to cover the Diploma syllabus. Applicants for the DPM exam are advised to read the DPM syllabus and rules and regulations.
Members of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine who are registered in the Faculty's CPD scheme can count participation in Experimental Therapeutics modules towards their CPD record. Non-members may wish to obtain further advice about CPD credit from their Royal College or Faculty.
To complete the MSc, students need to:
Attend the six modules and complete an assessed written assignment for each module.
Complete a dissertation on a topic chosen in consultation with a supervisor and the Course Director.
The dissertation is founded on a research project that builds on material studied in the taught modules. The dissertation should normally not exceed 15,000 words.
The project will normally be supervised by an academic supervisor from the University of Oxford, and an employer-based mentor.

- Evolution of mineral and bone disorder in early Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD): the role of FGF23 and vitamin D
- Survey of patients' knowledge and perception of the adverse drug reporting scheme (yellow cards) in primary care

- Endothelial Pathophysiology in Dengue - Dextran studies during acute infection

The class-based modules will include a period of preparatory study, a week of intensive face-to-face lectures and tutorials, followed by a period for assignment work. Attendance at modules will be a requirement for study. Some non-classroom activities will be provided at laboratory facilities elsewhere in the University. The course will include taught material on research skills. A virtual learning environment (VLE) will provide between-module support.
The taught modules will include group work, discussions, guest lectures, and interaction and feedback with tutors and lecturers. Practical work aims to develop the students' knowledge and understanding of the subject.

This programme teaches advanced experimental approaches to dissecting the mechanisms of drug action (pharmacology), a science that has seen innovative theoretical and technical development at UCL for over a century.
In addition to providing experience of both classical and modern pharmacological techniques, the programme will help develop skills for literature search-based data acquisition and analysis; written and verbal communication of science; abstract writing; poster preparation; graphical processing; image preparation for publication; writing a scientific paper; and giving research presentations.
Students undertake modules to the value of 180 credits.
The programme consists of three core modules (75 credits), one optional module (15 credits), and a research project (90 credits).

This programme is likely to lead to careers in biomedical sciences, the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry and clinical laboratories, and extend to clinicians interested in moving towards a scientific career. Students will obtain a thorough knowledge of and practice in pharmacological assessment, drug design and development pathways. This programme is designed for GPs, pharmacists and specialist nurses who wish to further develop their knowledge of the evidence-based management of commonly encountered medical conditions.
The MSc in Therapeutics is designed for medical practitioners, pharmacists, specialist nurses, and others who wish to gain further expertise in the practical management of common therapeutic problems.
The course aims to equip you with a sound understanding of the management of common medical conditions and to develop skills in evidence-based medicine. Graduates would be expected to gain the skills and expertise necessary to become the ‘local therapeutics expert’.
The course arises from a leading research centre and aims to encourage critical thinking and to equip students not only with practical and factual knowledge, but also provide a basic approach to therapeutic problems, encouraging attitudes and abilities which will be of lasting value in dealing with future advances in therapy.
The MSc involves a research dissertation and is open to students who have successfully completed the Cardiff University Postgraduate Diploma in Therapeutics to an acceptable standard.
How will I be taught?
Your studies at MSc dissertation level will largely consist of guided independent study and research, making use of the extensive learning and research facilities available. A project supervisor will be allocated to support and advise you on researching and writing up your specific dissertation topic. A formative module on Research Methods will be delivered online via Cardiff University’s online learning platform, Learning Central™.
How will I be supported?
All students are allocated a personal tutor, for help and support with academic and pastoral needs, who you can contact to discuss progress and who will provide advice and guidance as needed.
A project supervisor will be allocated to advise, support and provide formative feedback on conducting and writing up your dissertation. Formative feedback will be communicated through electronic and written means in a timely manner. Summative feedback on assessment will be delivered within the timeframe set by the University.
This programme is aimed at those who have completed the Diploma in Therapeutics and wish to complete a research project or literature review to expand their academic knowledge on the subject.
This Masters programme enables you to demonstrate you are taking the opportunity to develop your abilities in critical analysis, problem-solving, decision-making, finding and using evidence and in dealing with complex issues. Whilst we do not formally assess clinical skills or competencies in a face-to-face context (so the programme is not a substitute for a formal specialty training programme), studying at this level should help successful students demonstrate numerous academic skills that should be highly regarded in relation to their career development and progression. In particular, the programme offers opportunities to demonstrate the development of knowledge and skills in relation to the application of evidence-based medicine and the potential enhancement of services and governance frameworks. This research-based course has a taught component that is the same as an MSc. It provides a springboard into a career that involves a working knowledge of scientific research.
The course is designed for graduates with a BSc in the life sciences or other science disciplines, and for intercalating and fully qualified MBBS or BDS students. It can be taken either as a stand-alone qualification or as an entry route onto a PhD or MD.

This pre-registration nursing programme prepares Master entry-level Registered Nurses. The admitted students are Bachelor's degree holders in any discipline. The programme prepares students for registration with the Nursing Council of Hong Kong as Registered Nurses and to acquire the attributes to become future leaders in the profession.
This is a collaborative programme of the School of Nursing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital.
The programme is accreditated by the Nursing Council of Hong Kong (NCHK) and graduates are eligible to apply for registration as Registered Nurses general.
This programme embraces all of the theoretical components required for registration with the Nursing Council of Hong Kong. These include the introductory and applied subjects, plus subjects on biology, social sciences, professional studies and humanities that develop students' broad understanding of the biological and psychosocial dimensions of the human condition and health care.

This is an exciting time to be involved in cancer therapeutics. Based upon a greater understanding of the molecular aspects of cancer, new opportunities for therapeutic intervention have emerged that are effectively 'target orientated'. These new therapeutics are quite distinct from the classical chemotherapeutic agents and they offer the prospect of truly selective cancer therapies that are tailored towards the individual patient's tumour. Cancer pharmacology plays a key role in drug development. In both the laboratory and the clinic, cancer pharmacology has had to adapt to the changing face of drug development by establishing experimental models and target orientated approaches.
The programme is designed to provide you with a 'state-of-the-art' course in modern cancer pharmacology that meets the demand of employers and provides an expert view of the available cancer medicines and the development of new cancer therapies.
It promotes advanced scholarship within specialised areas at the same time as the development of key transferable skills (in IT, communication, and time management) and research techniques. The taught component of the course provides the in depth knowledge and skills necessary to work in cancer research, and is delivered across 2 semesters through lectures, workshops, practicals and 1-to-1 tutorials with ICT staff. The Cancer Pharmacology programme is designed to provide you with ‘state of the art’ learning opportunities in modern cancer pharmacology, focussed on the cancer biology of target and biomarker identification and validation, development of preclinical screening programmes in silico, in vitro and in vivo, mechanisms of anticancer drug action, pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics.
It meets the demands of employers and students at taught postgraduate level, and has a strong track record in graduates progressing to employment in the field or PhD study.
A wide variety of teaching methods appropriate to the learning outcomes of the individual modules are employed throughout the programme; formal lectures from ICT research/teaching staff and visiting clinicians and industrial researchers, small group workshops and discussions with peers, laboratory practicals, journal clubs, group and one-to-one tutorials, and a large component of individual research. These are supported by material provided on Blackboard, the virtual learning environment, provided by the University. Students will also attend the Institute of Cancer Therapeutics Research Seminar programme. Self-directed independent learning forms a significant component at MSc level; students will be supported to develop the attributes and skills needed for life-long learning and continued professional development. Directed private study will involve you in a variety of activities, which include directed reading of selected textbooks and specified source literature, Blackboard (directed Web-based materials), report writing, preparing presentations to deliver to your peers, and other assignments.
Many students go on to study for PhDs either at Bradford or elsewhere.
