- Acquire a specific knowledge and the understanding needed to work in HRM in an international context and to contribute to its development

The mission of the MSc International Human Resource Management and Organizational Development is to build the abilities and skills necessary for future managers to recruit, manage and enhance talent while facilitating change in multicultural and international environments. The program provides an understanding of the approach to handling international human resource management operations and the differences in international and domestic HRM.

Through a blending of theory and practice, using case studies and applied learning, students will develop the competencies to understand the HR issues facing business today and positively impact organizational structure and dynamics.

The MSc International Human Resource Management and Organizational Development focuses on the human resource and organizational issues facing companies that operate in the global market. It aims to train managers able to contribute to corporate performance and social responsibility through the effective management of the company's most valuable asset: its men and women.

"The MSc in International Human Resource Management and Organizational Development combines theoretical knowledge with a strong technical and practical orientation to enable students to master key operational know-how and soft skills. Students will be able to apply this knowledge to decision-making in HR and organizational development within different geographical contexts. The program has an international focus, as an ever-increasing globalization of business impacts HRM.

Program delivery relies on a mixture of pedagogical methods and techniques from traditional to interactive lectures, e-learning activities, readings, exercises, case studies, presentations, simulations, individual and multicultural team-based work.

Students will also experiment a course based on a new pedagogy: serious games.

The Final Management Project - a supervised research paper of 20,000 words - allows students to become experts in an HR-related topic of their choice covering not only technical concepts, but also professional practices and implications."

The program explores how HR strategy fits into overall corporate strategy, the key differences between International Human Resource Management (IHRM) and domestic HRM, and the skills required to recruit, manage and enhance talent. PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS

In addition to the core courses, students can attend personal and professional development workshops. These workshops cover current topics of interest, recent trends in management and career development. They serve as a complement to the core modules.

COMPANY ANALYSIS AND PROFILE

Students will select a company with international business located in different national culture. The purpose is to evaluate the impact of organization design on human resources roles and responsibilities. The objective is to gather public and internal information to develop their own analysis of the situation.

The program encourages effective teamwork as the major part of modules expects students to work in groups. These groups will consist of students of different nationalities and rhythms, as some students attend courses part-time.

RESEARCH TECHNIQUES AND PROJECT PROPOSAL

A research techniques module has been created to provide the skills required to effectively work on the Final Management Projects and on future professional projects.

FINAL MANAGEMENT PROJECT

The second year of the program is dedicated to the Final Management Project, a written work of approximately 20,000 words, conducted under the supervision of a tutor from GGSB. Students will choose an aspect of International HR Management and are encouraged to link the chosen subject matter to their future career. The project can be completed in parallel with full-time employment or an internship based in France or abroad.

FOREIGN LANGUAGES

Operating in an international environment requires foreign language fluency and therefore a foreign language module is an option on the program for all students.

Non-French speakers may study French (beginner to advanced level). This option is highly advised for those who are looking to become professionals in France. French speakers may choose from a number of other languages at beginner level.

Graduates of this MSc program will be qualified for posts in both multinational corporations and companies experiencing rapid expansion in international markets.

The MSc Career Coaching programme has been designed to reflect the growing interest in career coaching by individuals seeking to manage their career development more effectively; and by organisations who want to develop the talent and resilience of their staff. This level of interest is reflected in the progression pathway for talent management that features in the National Occupation Standards (NOS) for Career Development set by the Career Development Institute (CDI). The course will therefore appeal to UK and international students who are existing human service professionals who want to develop their career coaching skills; those who are considering entering the role; and existing career coaches who are seeking a course that is professionally accredited by the CDI (subject to approval).

The MSc Career Coaching with Professional Experience, is an extended full-time Masters programme with a substantive professional experience component. Assessment is both formative and summative. It is designed to appeal to – and test – students from wide range of traditions. Methods are varied and include assignments written in report and essay format, comparative analyses, case studies, a skills development portfolio, presentations and group work. There are also two exams. The exams take place only in the first semester and are required by the CIPD across all approved programmes. Exam briefing is given is giving to help prepare you for these assessments.

There will also be a dissertation which carries 60 credits. The dissertation requires you to conduct a piece of empirical research on a topic of your choice (and approved by your tutor). Most students choose to conduct their research on a key ‘people management’ issue within their own organisation.

There are also two exams. The exams take place only in the first semester and are required by the CIPD across all approved programmes. Exam briefing is given to help prepare you for these internally set assessments. There is also a 7,500 word Management Research Report.

Students gain Associate Membership of the CIPD and you can apply for professional upgrading with the Institute linked to your professional experience to achieve Chartered Membership or Fellowship following successful completion of your programme of study. Course detail

On this course you will undertake four 30 credit units and one 60 credit project unit.

Your course takes place over three semesters. Depending upon when you join the course, this will determine the order of units which you will study. You will benefit by beginning your studies with others who started at one of the earlier points of entry.

The structure provides an intense and highly rewarding learning experience. The induction week will prepare you well for study on your course. You will then study only one unit at a time, which will enable you to focus upon the subject. Capstone project

This Master's course provides the opportunity to undertake different types of project, a "Capstone" experience which completes the integration of your studies applied in one of the following:

• Professional Practice - the central aim of this unit is to provide you with a thorough understanding of the commercial context in which organisations operate. By reflecting upon your existing knowledge and experience you will be required to respond to a number of work-based scenarios through critical evaluation to determine an appropriate course of action.

• The Live Project - this will enable you to work as part of a team on a project provided by a business organisation. The exact nature of the level of work, and nature of responsibility will depend upon the chosen organisation. However, there will be close negotiation between the company and the Business School.

• The dissertation - this is a conventional dissertation of 12,000 to 15,000 words, enabling you to undertake in-depth research of a topic relating to your course. It will consist of research question, aims and objectives, rationale for undertaking the study, literature review, research methodology, analysis of findings, conclusions and recommendations.

Assessment

In line with the Business School’s commitment to practice-based education, a large part of the assessment will relate to the demonstration of your ability to understand International Human Resource Management in practice.

It is the expectation of the course that you understand the theory and develop critical thinking skills, which will help you to evaluate the relevance of what you have learnt. All of this comes together by being able to demonstrate rigorous expertise for a business or related organisation.

Course Delivery

This course is designed to fit in with existing commitments. Attendance is flexible – either one afternoon and one evening or two evenings per week (preference must be registered in advance). You can attend either Monday and Wednesday 5-9pm or Wednesday 1-9pm. A considerable amount of pre-reading is expected for the taught sessions, as directed by the programme tutors. You are also expected to work within learning sets and prepare drafts of written work to circulate and discuss with student colleagues.
