The course was one of the first to take an internationally comparative perspective across a broad range of criminology and criminal justice issues. It is designed to meet the needs of three groups of potential students: those requiring a thorough research training specialising in criminology and criminal justice; those who are interested in pursuing criminology and criminal justice to an advanced level; and practitioners in the criminal justice field who wish to expand their horizons from national to international levels. The programme components consist of a generic research module (The Research Process) for training in qualitative and quantitative research methods in the Social Sciences, specialised training in Applied Research Criminology and a module on international case studies in Criminology, which allows students to incorporate their particular research interests and areas of enquiry in comparative criminological and criminal justice research. The MA includes a 20,000 word dissertation.

Structure
The course aims to provide advanced training in research and analysis, linking theoretical awareness with empirical studies in criminology and criminal justice. The taught element of the course is studied by both MA and Diploma students and consists of core research training and theory modules, plus a module focussing on international and comparative criminological and criminal justice research. MA students who successfully complete the taught element proceed to the research dissertation.

Research Dissertation
The dissertation is a piece of independent research where you are expected to apply your research skills to a specific criminological or criminal justice topic. You will conduct this work with academic guidance provided by your supervisor who will be a member of the criminology and criminal justice team. This Master's degree is intended to provide you with an advanced understanding of the hotel & food services industries and a managerial perspective of how to run such organisations. It is anticipated that after completing this course, you'll have the capacity to be involved in more analytical, developmental and strategic perspectives of the industries and will develop insights into the issues affecting these industries than at undergraduate level.

The emphasis of this course is on accommodation management, food & drink, and the food service sector. As such, this is a course with an operational management focus, although it will also provide you with the opportunity to identify and engage with selected areas of specialism within these industries such as revenue management, IT applications, and human resource management.

This program covers the art and luxury management sector with a focus on France and its cultural excellence. Taught in English, this program explores the management, sales and distribution of luxury products using the themes of taste and luxury à la française from Louis XIV to present-day France. Themes covered include the French arts de la table, fashion, gemology, cosmetics and fragrances, interior design, furniture, art objects and design, scenery and décor, etc.

The innovative academic program combines lectures with practical field visits major historical monuments, fashion houses, and workshops that represent French cultural excellence. Legal aspects, finance, luxury marketing and management, communication and strategic marketing are all taught by professionals.

Direct interaction with industry players will allow students to build up a network of top professionals in the field and discover the savoir-faire of different sectors.

Structure

The year is made up of 3 terms: 2 terms of classes (Oct-Dec/ Jan-March) and a term of professional experience in the form of an internship (April-June). The first term ends with a group project to validate the term. During the last two terms, students will work on a personal project that they will be expected to present in front of a jury in validation of their diploma “Titre I”.

Each trimester consists of 200 hours of classes spread out over a 10-week period. Courses are taught in English.Participants are attributed a mentor for personalized coaching as well as group methodology sessions to guide them in the conception and realization of their personal project.

1st Term :

The history of art and style (17th-21st centuries), art law, the management of art objects and artistic projects communication and the marketing of art and luxury goods, defining an artistic project (content, business plan, legal structure, communication, marketing), meeting with professionals in situ during visits and workshops.

2nd Term:

e-communication and e-marketing of art and luxury products, negotiation of art objects, promotion of an artistic production, a brand or an artist, contemporary art and luxury, organizing an exhibit, the history of l’art de la table, the history of fashion and luxury products (fashion and accessories, wine and spirits, gastronomy, jewelry and watches, cosmetics and fragrances, niche brands), the history of interior design, meetings with professionals in situ for visits and workshops, methodology and follow up on personal projects.

3rd Term:

Teaching method

Considering the diverse backgrounds of participants, courses are structured with a course owner of academic experience to give an overview of the main topics of the course and give participants the fundamental tools and vocabulary to understand the specific issues of the area, which are then declined by professionals of the luxury industry.

The teaching method is based upon lessons, case analyses, presentations, group and individual work sessions, out-of class assignments and finalized by a Project Work with a practical approach to a managerial issue pertaining to the luxury industry. To complete the perspective on the luxury environment EMLUX activities include company visits, that over the years have been to Hermès (Paris), Ferragamo (Florence), Gucci (Florence), Azimut Benetti (Livorno), Vacheron Constantin (Geneva), Armani Hotel (Milan), Ferrari Lunelli (Trento), Caffè Florian (Venice), Fondation Cartier (Paris), Monaco Yacht Show (Montecarlo), Ermenegildo Zegna (Milan) and many more.

Session in Paris

True to its international vocation, EMLUX has developed a session in Paris, France, with a focus on French luxury, that includes both lectures by experts such as Jean-Noel Kapferer, Michel Chevalier and Gilles Auguste and visits to luxury companies and institutions.

A part-time program focused on luxury EMLUX – Executive Master in Luxury Goods Management will begin in Milan, Italy, one of the world capitals of luxury and fashion, its 7th edition, counting over 100 alumni from all over the world.

Continuing education

EMLUX has a part-time structure (Friday and Saturday twice a month for 10 months) specially designed for professionals who wish to keep their position while continuing their education, either to boost their career within the luxury industry or to facilitate the switch from their area of expertise in an another sector to the same area of expertise in the luxury sector.

The course integrates academic and practical knowledge with practical case studies and live scenarios and you learn to assess situations from financial, commercial and cultural standpoints, to reach decisions on solutions and actions. With specialist modules in luxury businesses you develop marketing strategies in a luxury context and develop and understand how building customer trust and champion luxury brands is critical. Compulsory Modules

You will study eight compulsory modules and a module which helps develop your professional and academic skills. In addition, you will choose two optional modules and you can complete either a dissertation or client project or, if you start the course in September, you also have the opportunity to apply for an 8 month paid work placement in a marketing role. If you choose not to take a work placement, the course lasts 12 months. If you start in September and take the work placement the course last 17 months.

Teaching and learning

Much of the teaching on the course takes the form of interactive workshops, but there are also lectures from staff and visiting speakers. Lectures, discussions, role-play exercises and seminars are linked with selected case studies and assessments to strengthen your practical analysis and decision-making skills. You will develop your skills in working as part of a team through structured group assignments and online group-based marketing simulation.

You will gain practical experience and put your knowledge of marketing approaches and theory into practice during live research projects for an organisation. Teaching staff at the Business School are engaged in academic research and/or come from an industry background with in-depth practical experience of business and management issues. Visiting speakers from the world of business, consultancies and research bodies augment the programme through leading edge discussions and specialist events.

Field trips

We offer an International Business in Practice Study Trip module. The purpose of this study trip is to give postgraduate students a hands-on, intensive experience with the ideas and practices of global business. The programme will include presentations from local management executives and experts. Students will have direct interaction with management executives and practices through site visits to major corporations and agencies.

This study trip is voluntary and all costs associated with the trip will need to be funded by you. It is not linked to university assessments in any way.
