With more than one million individuals in the UK estimated to be living with dementia by 2025, there is an urgent need for solutions that help people live well with the condition.
This course will equip students with a unique range of skills and experiences providing sought-after expertise to work flexibly and effectively with people living with dementia. You will gain specialist skills enabling you to lead in the field of dementia care.

The Dementia Care Centre is a transdiscplinary training provider and benefits from input from a range of staff from across UWL, including psychology, nursing, hospitality, design and music. The Centre will offer expertise in transdisciplinary approaches to dementia care and opportunities to get involved in innovative projects and placements at progressive care homes. Victoria Tischler, who has worked in clinical, cultural, charity and academic sectors. She was Associate Professor at the University of Nottingham for 12 years where she retains an honorary position. Her research interests focus on creativity and health, specifically in the area of dementia care. She has worked as a curator and art workshop facilitator, particularly with untrained artists who have experience of mental health problems.
She is executive editor of Arts and Health. She sits on the scientific advisory board for the Boots UK archive. She is a Trustee for Paintings in Hospitals. She joined UWL as Professor in January 2017.

MBA students have the opportunity to participate in a range of talks and activities designed to help them develop their personal and career management skills. Some past examples are described below.
John Lees, an internationally recognised career coach and careers writer, shared a number of insights into the changing job market and the skills individuals need to manage their career. Students were provided with a number of practical tools to help them identify their skills, focus on their career drivers, as well as think about their ideal job and the strategies needed to secure employment in a world where many jobs are never advertised.
Vicky Reeves, entrepreneur and Managing Director of the London-based web solutions company ChameleonNet, gave an inspiring and candid talk on the highs and lows of developing a successful business. She talked about how she has grown the company from a micro business to one that now employs around 30 people. She spoke about the skills that she has developed along the journey, how to go about getting the right advice and support, as well as providing some humorous stories to demonstrate the creative skills needed when running your own business.
Students have worked on a number of group projects. One of these involved producing a design proposal for a dedicated postgraduate common room within the School. The objectives being to build a more cohesive postgraduate community; create a ‘third place’ to exchange ideas, share knowledge and maximise the resources of the University and thus improve the Roehampton learning experience among the postgraduate community. Students were given a budget to work within and had to present their proposals to a number of key decision makers across the University.
The Roehampton MBA is fully recognised by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). Successful completion of the programme leads to eligibility for membership of the CMI and the potential to gain chartered manager status.

You can browse through the comprehensive careers library, which holds an extensive range of occupational information, literature from professional bodies, and self-help materials on CVs, applications and interviews. The programme focuses on each institution's strengths: International and European Law in Leuven and Arbitration Law, Financial Law and Human Rights in Zurich. Switzerland is a centre of arbitration and banking, and many international institutions are based here.
Upon completion of the programme, students receive a double degree - one from KU Leuven and another from the University of Zurich. A double degree from two leading law faculties in Europe will be of enormous added value for your future professional career in an international context.

The ideal prospective student:
Knowledge and insight: The student has a basic knowledge of law and also a thorough, consolidated knowledge of their national, European and International law and develops a clear vision on the interaction among the three of them whereby he/she integrates the expertise in positive law with insight into the principles of law.
The student does as well have specialized knowledge and insight in the two main legal areas offered, European and International law, just as a profound knowledge in a wide-range of transversal legal areas that express the relation and interaction between the different, basic, legal areas and the dynamism and renovation of the Law.
The student can frame legal arguments and legal reasoning in a social, historical or value based context as a result of a critical and reflective basic attitude towards the law, human beings and society in general terms.
General legal skills: The students adopt a systematic method when approaching complex legal or social-related questions. He/she is able to make an independent legal analysis and synthesis of problems. The students have the capacity to offer adequate solutions and adopt clarifying, problem solving points of view.
Scientific - legal related skills: The student handles one or more legal areas with an independent and scientific approach. He/she can apply his legal knowledge, insight and skills when accomplishing independent legal research.
Communication skills: The student can draft texts and explain orally, in a structured and clear way legal issues to both laymen and legal practitioners.
IT skills: The student can make use of modern technologies applied to legal information sources (ex. digital libraries and databases)
Learning skills: The student is able to deal with new legal areas and acquire further knowledge in the ones he/she is more familiar with.

Designed both as a relevant vocational qualification for those seeking health, safety and environment-related employment, as well as to meet the continuing professional development needs of personnel in industry, this course provides an opportunity for interdisciplinary postgraduate study of environmental and occupational health, enabling students to develop the knowledge and skills relevant in modern Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) practice.
Influenced by industry requirements, course content reflects the growing trend of companies combining their environmental protection and health and safety functions. Successful completion of this course will enable you to cope with rapid social, technological and organisational change through promoting an understanding of relevant concepts. The course will also develop your critical and analytical ability in relation to SHE and ensure that you are prepared for contemporary professional practice.
This course involves engagement with a number of ideas drawn from law, economics and the social and physical sciences which are of relevance to the theory and practice of environmental regulation and occupational health.
Modules have been designed to enable the development of the intellectual and analytical skills appropriate for health, safety and environment professionals in the 21st Century. Addressing existing and emerging challenges and reviewing contemporary management and regulatory systems designed to reduce risk, module content covers a broad curriculum providing you with in depth knowledge of the concepts presented.
A feature of this course is applied learning and an emphasis on authentic, experimental problem based learning ensuring that you will learn from experience while being supported in reviewing the progress of your own learning.
For the MSc, the full-time and part-time routes comprise three 14-week semesters or five 14-week semesters, which you can take within one and three years respectively.
Within the full-time course three modules are compulsory with two studied in semester 1 and the remaining one in semester 2. The remaining module is optional and you can choose one module in semester 2 from the available options. During semester 3 you will complete a dissertation.
For part-time students the taught components spans two academic years each consisting of two semesters between September and May. Year 1 involves the study of two core modules. Year 2 involves the study of one core and one optional module. During your final year of the course you will complete a dissertation.
Teaching is delivered through lectures, tutorials and case studies, and simulated business projects are utilised to develop practical, observational and analytical skills. In addition, you will take part in field work and site visits and will have many opportunities to discuss and exchange your own professional experiences with the course team and invited specialist speakers. It seeks to develop graduates who are able to play a leading role in the strategic development and implementation of policy initiatives within the industry.
Graduates of this course have found positions as safety, health and environmental managers in business, as environmental regulators, SHE managers, in safety consultancy and training, working in fields as diverse as facilities management, construction and demolition, utilities, the civil service and engineering.
This course emphasises the development of professional skills and capabilities. Employability of graduates is developed through project work with external clients and through opportunities to work on a specific business problem for the dissertation component.

Swansea University is the only UK university to offer a British Blood Transfusion Society approved degree in Advanced Specialist Blood Transfusion.
This is a part-time course that will be delivered via the Work-based Learning (WBL) route with students employed in a variety of heath care settings.
The Master's level course for the Specialist Blood Transfusion has been developed in collaboration with the British Blood Transfusion Society. Members of the British Blood Transfusion Society (BBTS) will work in partnership with colleagues from the College of Human and Health Sciences in providing appropriate support for these students.
The Advanced Specialist Blood Transfusion programme team will provide academic support and facilitation of the WBL and the identified work-based mentor will provide guidance clinically.
Students can therefore be working in a setting distinct from the College and able to work at their own pace and react to learning opportunities in a real life setting.
The BBTS is a professional membership body which is committed to supporting transfusion professionals through the provision of career development and learning opportunities, thus assuring ongoing advancement of blood transfusion and its practitioners. It currently has in excess of 1600 members, representing transfusion professionals at all levels and locations.
Whilst formal training and education has been available for doctors, clinical scientists and biomedical scientists specialising in transfusion medicine for some years, nurses and transfusion practitioners have had limited access to formal programmes of education in blood transfusion. The educational preparation of nurses and transfusion practitioners is critical to promoting safe and effective transfusion practice. The purpose of this degree in Advanced Specialist Blood Transfusion Practice is to prepare the practitioner to achieve the level of expertise that the BBTS has detailed in its curriculum framework for nurses and transfusion practitioners working in UK Blood Services and the wider NHS.
The programme reflects, in part, the content of the original framework for the BBTS Specialist Certificate in Blood Transfusion Science Practice (2008). The framework for the BBTS Specialist Certificate in Transfusion Science Practice for nurses and practitioners working in blood transfusion and associated specialties was compiled by representatives from the BBTS Professional Affairs and Education nursing sub-committee, the UK Blood Services and NHS hospital transfusion team representatives.
The format of work-based learning is well established within the College and concurs with modern learning philosophies, enabling students to learn in their working environment whilst being mentored by experts in their field of practice. This learning enables the employer to support students within their workplace. The student professionally develops whilst continuing to work in their workplace environment.
The CHHS will deliver the Advanced Specialist Blood Transfusion Practice programme in partnership with the BBTS, who will provide subject expertise and curriculum guidance.
This programme is offered on a part-time basis, and will normally take three years to complete.
The MSc programme in Advanced Specialist Blood Transfusion comprises 6 modules (120 credits) and a dissertation (60 credits). The first year will comprise of three 20-credit core modules and the second year will comprise of two 30-credit composite modules. In the final year, students complete the dissertation module (60 credits).
PGDip students undertake the same first and second year modules, but do not undertake the dissertation.
PGCert students undertake the first year modules only.

Nurses and other allied health care professionals (e.g. ODPs) may be interested in studying for a Master's or postgraduate qualification in Advanced Specialist Blood Transfusion Practice.
The core team for the College of Human and Health Sciences have professional backgrounds in either haematology and/or work-based learning. The programme manager, Mrs Heulwen Morgan-Samuel, has extensive clinical experience in general medical nursing, and has developed expertise in the care of cancer patients, including palliative care, and teaches on many palliative care and oncology modules. She is also the designated lead for haematology nursing in the College. She has published a number of research studies in peer reviewed journals specifically on infection control for the immune-compromised patient and the role of the nurse lecturer in supporting students. Heulwen Morgan- Samuel’s research interests include factors that enhance learning within the clinical environment, student support, principles of care and education for oncology nurses. She has co-edited a revised edition of the Fundamentals of Nursing book which is aimed at the pre registration nursing curriculum designated.
Teaching and learning is based on the best research evidence available, and the programme manager will work in close collaboration with members of the British Blood Transfusion Society (BBTS). Their membership includes professionals from all levels across the transfusion community, maintaining clinical and academic currency, to support and enhance practice in this field. The aim of BBTS is to “play a leading role in safe and effective transfusion practice by delivering high quality education and training, setting standards and promoting research and development and innovation” (BBTS, 2015).

The advanced master’s programme in IP & IT Law builds on the expertise of the KU Leuven Centre for IT & IP Law (CiTiP).
This programme intends to address the increasing demand for qualified legal experts in the IP, ICT and media sector. These are rapidly evolving and highly complex sectors influenced by a myriad of technological, economic and sociological developments. Existing legal frameworks are continuously challenged within these sectors and traditional legal concepts and principles are regularly being reinterpreted.
To achieve this objective, students are offered a comprehensive study of international and European IP law, IT law and media and communications law, with special attention to interdisciplinary perspectives and practical skills that are in demand in these sectors.

Graduates have also gone on to positions in (international) public administration as well as in international public interest organisations.
