Educational aims of the programme

The programme aims to provide a high quality, vocational education which is intellectually rigorous and up-to-date, as well as relevant to the needs of existing and future managers, executives and other professionals in international retail marketing.

In addition to subject-specific knowledge, the programmes aim to develop generic management skills necessary to be effective in todays’ challenging business environment.

The programme has a business management orientation related to the retail sector and draws upon a range of cognate areas of study to explain and analyse this sector. It takes an integrated approach so as to provide a coherent exploration of the inter-relationships between the various components.

The programme is international in scope and coverage, and lecturers draw upon the most recent research to inform their teaching. The programmes aim to develop students as independent and reflective learners, able to continue their learning once in their chosen profession.

Our marketing graduates who enrol with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) as an Affiliate can study CIM qualifications without having to complete all of the modules. For most qualifications, students will only need to take two assessments instead of the usual three and therefore, students will add an individual award to supplement their degree. There is a fee to join CIM.

COURSE CONTENT

The first year of the Master is a fulltime year in Grenoble or London.
The program covers four key areas of study for Marketers, each of the 19 modules follow a logical connection to the one before.

The content of the program may be adapted from year to year to take into account the needs of industry. Class attendance is compulsory.

Integrative Marketing Case Study

Using an existing business, the “Live Business Case” will provide the students with the opportunity to pull together all the aspects of the program. Students will analyze a marketing problem in the Company and use their skills and knowledge to solve issues and propose solutions. This takes place in small groups and in a limited time. Assessment for the case study will be based on a group assignment with a group presentation to the Company.

At the end of the one-year full time part of the program, each student will be required to complete a Final Management Project of approximately 20,000 words in length, under the guidance of a GGSB tutor.

To successfully complete the Final Management Project, you are required to address a particular research question or knowledge gap in the field of your study. This will be business oriented and coherent with your program's objectives. A student may choose to write his/her project on a topic grounded in his/her internship experience.

Dramatic technological developments have changed the way we obtain information, make decisions, and interact. Marketing experts have to understand these changes and the way they affect strategies for new product development, customer relationship management, branding, and other marketing efforts.

The MSc in Marketing program prepares you for this challenging environment. It combines cutting-edge theory and practical applications. Students acquire the skills for creating, communicating, and delivering value to customers through customized products and services.

Format

Choose from seven electives: Retail and Sales Management, Service Marketing and CRM, Marketing Management, International Marketing Management, Marketing Communication and Consumer Behavior, Marketing Project Management, and Interactive Marketing and Social Media.

Almost all of the courses count a maximum of 30 participants. All classes are extremely interactive with a high degree of team work, which creates a collaborative and entrepreneurial atmosphere.

First Year

In the courses of the first year you develop the core knowledge and skills. You will gain thorough grounding the areas of customer-focused marketing and consumer behavior, research tools and planning techniques, as well as strategic and instrumental aspects of marketing. Furthermore, you will start linking ideas from different areas of your study subjects.

Second Year

In the second year students can specialize in the areas of their interests through several electives to choose from. Additionally, students have the option to develop more towards the qualification as a marketing specialist / executive function or an academic / advanced marketing management consulting career. The second year also offers opportunities to gain international experience through an exchange semester at a partner university or – for selected students – through a double degree with the Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi, Italy.

Study abroad

50% of our students study abroad. Additionally to an exchange semester at one of WU's 120 prestigious partner universities, selected students can gain a double degree by doing their 2nd year at Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi (Milan, Italy).

The programme aims to provide a highly targeted, practical programme to support this growing sector. As a business discipline, multichannel marketing management is essential for an organisation's overall strategic planning, as it is designed to maximise the revenues and profits of the firm. Emphasis is placed on linking the fundamentals of marketing to multichannel practices, considering the multiple routes by which customers and businesses interact with each other, studying the importance of multichannel retailing, marketing strategy development and integration of channels.

The Multichannel Marketing course is designed to help you develop a critical appreciation of key areas in fashion retail including:
