The MSc International Retail Marketing programme is designed for those looking to develop their knowledge of the theory and practice of retail marketing and its application in the fast changing International and Digital Business environment. The programme will also deepen your knowledge of Business Management in general and Marketing in particular.
The student experience on this programme combines interactive lecture classes with seminars delivered to smaller groups. Moreover, our guest speakers from the industry, with their practical examples and cases, will help students to reflect on what they learn, take examples from the very best but also develop their own professional network.

This programme is studied full-time over one academic year. It consists of eight taught modules and a dissertation.

The programme aims to provide a high quality, vocational education which is intellectually rigorous and up-to-date, as well as relevant to the needs of existing and future managers, executives and other professionals in international retail marketing.
In addition to subject-specific knowledge, the programmes aim to develop generic management skills necessary to be effective in todays’ challenging business environment.
The programme has a business management orientation related to the retail sector and draws upon a range of cognate areas of study to explain and analyse this sector. It takes an integrated approach so as to provide a coherent exploration of the inter-relationships between the various components.
The programme is international in scope and coverage, and lecturers draw upon the most recent research to inform their teaching. The programmes aim to develop students as independent and reflective learners, able to continue their learning once in their chosen profession.

Our marketing graduates who enrol with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) as an Affiliate can study CIM qualifications without having to complete all of the modules. For most qualifications, students will only need to take two assessments instead of the usual three and therefore, students will add an individual award to supplement their degree. There is a fee to join CIM.
We often give our students the opportunity to acquire international experience during their degrees by taking advantage of our exchange agreements with overseas universities.

Core modules will introduce you to a range of analytical methods, ensuring you develop a solid foundation in the essential skills for consumer analytics and marketing strategy.
You’ll learn how to analyse geographic data using GIS software and understand the application of this in retail modelling, to evaluate new markets and locations. You’ll study predictive analytics, big data and consumer analytics, business analytics and decision science, and learn how to communicate results through data visualisations.
Alongside this, you’ll learn how to deploy data to inform decisions about marketing strategy. Marketing modules include marketing strategy, consumer behavior and direct, digital and interactive marketing. You’ll also deliver your own data-driven marketing research project for a company.
Optional modules allow you to further your knowledge in a related area of interest, either corporate social responsibility, internal communications and managing change, or applied population and demographic analysis.
By the end of the course, you’ll submit an independent project. You can either research a topic in-depth and submit a dissertation, or gain practical experience through a consultancy project working with an external organisation.
You’ll take the nine compulsory modules below, plus your dissertation, which can be a choice of either a research dissertation or marketing consultancy project.

At the Oulu Business School (OBS), the primary focus in marketing education and research is in business-to-business relationships and networks.
