Banks as all other stakeholders of the economy, attempt to understand and to take on innovations and new technologies which can help them to transform their business models in order to guide their clients around a new digital revolution. They fit more and more into a digital strategy.

These last years, the retail banking saw its model deeply disrupted by the increase of digital channels.

General Objective

The aim of the MBA Digital and Retail Banking is to train future professionals directly operational in the professions of digital banking. The teaching methods revolve around three subjects: to follow and think about the digital transformation of banks, to acquire and master a double financial and digital skill in order to practise professions in commercial banking and to train experts combining multidisciplinary skills with a great ability in work on projects.

Digital transformation

For banks, redesigning organizations, renewing their management and training their teams are required levers to achieve their digital transformation. The digital shift of banks is a huge project, because it impacts all activities, including front and back office. It is a strategic change which implies a whole new set of competences.

Our marketing graduates who enrol with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) as an Affiliate can study CIM qualifications without having to complete all of the modules. For most qualifications, students will only need to take two assessments instead of the usual three and therefore, students will add an individual award to supplement their degree. MSc Marketing with Retail

The MSc Marketing with Retail is a specialist, 12-month full-time taught postgraduate course. The MSc Marketing with Retail provides students with the opportunity to acquire and extend their knowledge and expertise in this sector. The retail sector is a major employer throughout the world and one which requires a sound skill set in order to be able to manage profitable interactions with suppliers and consumers. All students will register for the MSc course in Marketing in the first instance and be given the opportunity to change degree pathway at the end of the first semester.
The course is modular, so the credits awarded at the end of each assessed module can be accumulated towards a postgraduate qualification. Students of Marketing with Retail study three core topics in the Autumn Semester before deciding on their final course of study. In the Spring Semester MSc Marketing with Retail students have to apply this knowledge through a project undertaken for an external company and through an appreciation of Contemporary Issues in Marketing. To specialise in Retail students must also complete the modules on Retail Marketing and Marketing and the Supply Chain and undertake an individual dissertation or group research project in a field relevant to the Retail sector.

Delivery and assessment

The taught modules of the MSc course are delivered using a variety of methods, for example, lectures, tutorials, case studies, role playing, computer simulations, fieldwork exercises, site visits, guest speakers and company projects. Much of the assessment is continuous and may include research reports, essays, briefings, management reports, case analyses, debates, literature reviews, marketing communication plans, poster sessions and presentations. This course deals with the learning and practical application of concepts essential for operating and marketing a retail business, and will help you to understand the contemporary retail environment and examine topical issues related to retail management and marketing.

You’ll learn from research-active, industry-experienced staff who have published innovative research into retail management and marketing issues. You'll develop analytical skills essential for operating and marketing in international retail environment by critically examining international retail development and activity, with a view to putting this knowledge into practice.

Placement

As part of this course you can take an optional minimum 30-week work placement giving you further hands-on experience and understanding of the industry. The placement will take place after the taught elements of the course are complete.

The programme aims to provide a fundamental understanding of the international fashion retail industry, with knowledge of international fashion retailing processes including innovation, retail marketing, fabric structures and international fashion retailing.

The programme will provide a range of intellectual, practical and transferable skills; experience of research; and a broad knowledge base of international fashion retailing.

When you have completed the courses you should have achieved:

Teaching and learning

We have plenty of facilities to help you make the most of your time at the School of Design. You’ll be able to develop your practice in well-equipped studios and purpose-built computer clusters so you can build your skills on both PC and Mac. There are computer-aided design (CAD) suites with access to the latest design software and some of the latest design technology, such as digital printing and laser cutting facilities, and colour analysis/prediction labs, EEG/eye-tracking technology and digital photography.

We also have an impressive range of resources you can use for research. Course content

  • The cultural reception, dissemination, promotion and eventual disposal of a fashion product within international markets involves an astoundingly complex chain of activities. This programme allows you to develop a unique blend of management skills, master analytical tools and customer marketing techniques in order to understand and shape global retail operations.
  • You’ll study six compulsory modules in total, covering fashion marketing, retailing and a specialised fashion dissertation in the School of Design, and the management of logistics, supply chains and understanding global consumers in Leeds University Business School. You’ll also study two from a selection of fashion-based optional modules, allowing you the flexibility to specialise in an area of your choice.

Learning and teaching

This programme employs a variety of learning and teaching methods including lectures, seminars, tutorials and group discussions. The modules will utilise methods of learning, teaching and assessment which are appropriate to Masters level study, such as group discussions, presentations, and report writing. Although a proportion of the contact time will be spent in teaching, emphasis will also be placed upon the use of group and independent learning. Discussion and interactive sessions will encourage you to critically examine key elements of fashion retail and management further. You will have the opportunity to hear from external academic and professional speakers from the fashion and retail business world, and it may be possible to participate in retail colloquiums.

You'll be assessed by a variety of methods. Assessment on the programme is designed to be an integral part of the learning process, allowing you to enhance and confirm your knowledge and practice. Formative feedback will be provided through a combination of self-reflection, peer group and tutor feedback. Summative assessments will provide a measure of the extent to which you have achieved the learning outcomes of the modules.

To complete the perspective on the luxury environment EMLUX activities include visits such as Baglietto (yachts), Damiani (jewellery), Van Cleef&Arpels (jewellery), Atelier Pino Grasso (fashion), Excelsior (concept store), etc.

Session in Paris

In addition, true to its international vocation, EMLUX has developed a session in Paris, France, with a focus on French luxury that during the past edition was in collaboration with the University of Sciences-Po. The session included not only lectures by French brands such as Lanvin and Chloé, but also a focus on the Champagne and jewellery market, with a visit to the Van Cleef&Arpels atelier and boutique.

Core modules will introduce you to a range of analytical methods, ensuring you develop a solid foundation in the essential skills for consumer analytics and marketing strategy.

You’ll learn how to analyse geographic data using GIS software and understand the application of this in retail modelling, to evaluate new markets and locations. You’ll study predictive analytics, big data and consumer analytics, business analytics and decision science, and learn how to communicate results through data visualisations.

Alongside this, you’ll learn how to deploy data to inform decisions about marketing strategy. Marketing modules include marketing strategy, consumer behavior and direct, digital and interactive marketing. You’ll also deliver your own data-driven marketing research project for a company.
