This course will attract people holding a relevant undergraduate honours degree who wish to change career and become an occupational therapist. It is an intensive professional programme of study which will develop theoretical, analytical, practical, evaluative and reasoning skills as well as professional values.
Occupational therapists assess individuals’ disruption and disengagement from their occupations, and facilitate alternative ways for them to re-engage and participate in their occupational roles to improve their quality of life, wellbeing and sense of belonging.
Modules reflect contemporary and prospective occupational therapy practice, concerned with the relationship between the individual’s or a community’s occupations, their health, wellbeing and belonging. The programme is underpinned by person-centred, evidence-informed and occupation-focused occupational therapy practice. The course prepares graduates to work in diverse practice contexts.
The course philosophy integrates academic and placement study. It centres on adult learning perspectives of learner-responsibility, active participation in learning, collaborative and autonomous learning and learning as a community. Problem-based learning using practice scenarios is a major feature of the learning experience where students work to develop professional reasoning, evidence informed decision making, interpersonal and team working skills. Learning is thus facilitated by a process of acquiring enquiry skills, interpreting information, group discussion, exchanging of perspectives, creation of knowledge, and arriving at a position or judgment.
Teaching methods incorporate self-directed study, practice scenarios, group work, workshops, eLearning modules, digital technology, reflection, lectures and placements. Assessment methods include peer and self-assessment, written assignments, viva voce, conference presentations, projects and placements.
Practice placements form a core element of the course and your personal performance is also assessed. There are four placements in total: Placement 1 – full-time, 6 weeks; Placement 2 – full-time, 6 weeks; Placement 3 – part-time, 14 weeks; Placement 4 – full-time, 8 weeks. There will be additional travel and accommodation costs for every placement.
Each module which you study on campus will require you to attend classes and carry out independent work. The MSc academic modules require you to attend from 9.15am – 6.15pm. You should be aware that services may operate over seven working days. Placements may involve evening and weekend attendance. You will be expected to mirror the working hours of practice educators and be required to purchase professional indemnity insurance.
Upon successful completion of the course, you can apply for membership of the College of Occupational Therapists and will be eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council to work as an occupational therapist.
15 credits: Occupational Choices and Narratives in Context/ Research Methods 30 credits: Occupational Therapy Theory, Values and Skills for Practice/ Occupational Therapy Process and Practice/ Advancing Scholarship and Professional Practice Non-credited: Manual Handling 60 credits: Research Project You will also complete undergraduate level professional practice placements 1, 2, 3 & 4 (1000 hours in total) in order to be eligible to register with the Health and Care Professions Council.
Occupational therapists are employed in a diverse range of settings including the National Health Service, public health, education, employment services, local authority, prison service, third sector organisations and private practice. Outside the UK, graduates of this course have gone on to work in Hong Kong, Australia, Europe, Canada, the USA and New Zealand.

The full Masters award is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), allowing exemption from their academic entry requirements, as well as ensuring that you will be educated to the highest industry standards.

The Masters award consists of four taught modules followed by a dissertation. The PgDip requires the completion of the four taught modules and the Pg Cert requires the completion of two taught modules. All modules are delivered over a 15 week period within one semester and are assessed through coursework, there are no exams.
FOR THE FULL-TIME STUDY OPTION:
You will study two 30 credit taught modules in each of your first two semesters on campus, these are designed to give you the core knowledge required for real estate and property management. In the final semester you will undertake a dissertation worth 60 credits.
DISTANCE LEARNING STUDY OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE IN FULL-TIME AND PART-TIME MODES:
For students who study distance learning at full-time mode, two 30 credit taught modules are studied per semester. You will undertake a dissertation worth 60 credits at the final semester.
For the students who study distance learning at part-time mode, one 30 credit taught module is studied per semester. You will undertake a dissertation worth 60 credits at the final two semesters.
Assessment of these modules is driven by real-world issues aligned to your workplace and job role. Teaching is based around a virtual learning environment supported by interactive online sessions. The dissertation module is also delivered online and incorporates extensive tutor engagement and support.
On-campus study comprises lectures, tutorials and project work.
Lectures introduce the core knowledge for each module. Tutorials provide a forum for discussion and debate with personalised instruction from tutors and project work is your chance to use research and other techniques to develop solutions to prescribed tasks. Throughout the course, experts from various fields are invited to deliver guest lectures and field trips are organised to give you an insight into the workings of the industry.

This course primarily equips you with knowledge and expertise in the valuation and management of urban land and buildings in both public and private ownership. In addition, advice may be sought by clients on matters relating to investment, finance, planning, development, refurbishment, landlord and tenant relationships and a wide range of other issues.
Employment opportunities are extensive and range from local property consultancies to positions in large, multi-office practices with regional, national and international representation. There are also many opportunities in the institutional and corporate sectors with organisations such as insurance companies, pension funds, property companies, multiple retailers and other major trading companies. Some local authorities and central government departments also maintain an 'in-house' team of property professionals.
Relevant to vets, animal health specialists and livestock farmers, the programme addresses contemporary issues of livestock production that have worldwide relevance. The subject areas covered include breeding, nutrition, welfare and disease processes and management.
Graduates of this programme will be able to improve the health and production of livestock through:
- understanding the interaction of livestock with people and the environment
- gaining an overview of the factors that influence livestock production
- implementing control strategies by integrating this knowledge with the principles of epidemiology, economics and disease control within the context of management and infrastructure
- communicating effectively on the health of animal and human populations to a range of audiences including the general public, farmers, politicians, and other key policy makers.
The programme has been developed by academics at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), the oldest and largest veterinary school in the UK and one of the leading veterinary research centres in Europe. In 1999, RVC became the first UK veterinary school to be granted approval by the American Veterinary Medical Association. The RVC also provides support for the veterinary profession through its three referral hospitals, diagnostic services and continuing professional development courses.

If you are interested in the arts and you would like to monetise or create opportunity from the wide range of art forms, Aberdeen offer a programme which looks at the ways you can do just that and get paid for your efforts. The programme doesn't ask for both an art or business degree before entry but you should have general knowledge of the arts markets in galleries and museums. There is certainly a lot of interest in the art world made famous by experts on the BBC in the art world but you are not limited to this area, you can widen your interests within museums and galleries to learn curation and exhibiting different art forms.
The MLitt will appeal to you if you enjoy the visual arts of any kind and you want to embark on and international career in the art trade, heritage sector or museums. If you come from an arts background but want to learn the business side of things and the law regarding art purchase and copyright since origination and sale this is a great way of doing this and if you are from a business background but you have always had interests in the arts you get to learn about art forms, curation, exhibitions and periods of art rapidly.
