Entry Requirements

Applicants must have the following academic qualifications:
(a) An honours Bachelor degree (major award at Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications) or a major award at Level 9 or a major award at Level 10 on the National Framework of Qualifications, and

(b) one of the following sets of second level qualifications:

(i) in the Leaving Certificate Examination from 1969 onwards: a grade C3 or above in Higher Level Irish; a grade D3 or above in Mathematics (Ordinary or Higher level); and a grade C3 or above in English (Ordinary level) or grade D3 or above in English (Higher level); or

(ii) in the Leaving Certificate Examination prior to 1969, Honours in Irish and passes in English and Mathematics; or

(iii) in the Northern Ireland GCSE and GCE A Level Examinations: a Grade C at GCE A Level Irish; a Grade C at GCSE Level in both English and English Literature or Grade B at GCSE Level in either; and a Grade D at GCSE Level in Additional Mathematics or a Grade C at GCSE Level in Mathematics.

Applicants must provide evidence to the Higher Education Institution that their degree is placed as a major award at the appropriate level on the National Framework of Qualifications. Applicants must meet all entry requirements by Friday 3rd July 2016 and provide documentary evidence of meeting these requirements.

Please note that a minimum entry requirement of a H2.2 Bachelor Degree at Level 8 will apply from September 2016.

Alternatives to second-level qualifications in Irish, English or Maths:
A Pass in a University First Arts Examination in Irish, English or Mathematics will be accepted in lieu of the Leaving Certificate Examination GCE/GCSE requirement for the relevant subject.

Eligible applicants will be required to undergo an Interview and an Oral Irish Examination. Applicants who get a "fail" grade in either the Interview or oral Irish Examination will be eliminated from the competition. The purpose of the Interview is to ascertain the suitability of the applicant for participation in a primary teacher education programme.

The Oral Irish Examination will comprise:
- conversation on everyday topics and on books read by the applicant; and
- reading correctly and intelligently a suitable passage of prose or poetry and explaining the matter read.

Applicants should note that a high standard of fluency is required in the Oral Irish Examination and should prepare for the examination accordingly.

Applicants will be advised by the relevant Centre (Dublin and/or Limerick) of the date, time, venue, etc, of their Interview and Oral Irish Examination and must attend these examinations at their own expense. The location will be either Dublin and/or Limerick.

Clinical Pharmacy for General Practice:
NHS England has recently announced their intention to invest £15 million pounds to pilot patient facing roles for clinical pharmacists in GP practices. This is a clear sign of that pharmacists are recognised as health professionals who are able to support patients in the management of long term conditions e.g. by optimising medicines. These roles offer exciting opportunities for pharmacists to develop in this area of practice. . If you wish to work in general practice, it is likely that you will need to be working towards or hold a postgraduate pharmacy qualification that includes Independent Prescribing.
Our new postgraduate pathway 'Clinical Pharmacy for General Practice' allows you to combine your choice of modules from across our Community Pharmacy, Advanced Professional Practice and Prescribing Studies programmes (including the Independent Prescribing course) to meet your own personal learning needs whilst working towards a Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma or Masters award.

Advanced Professional Practice (Pharmacy):
The Pharmacy pathway is compatible with the emerging agenda for Advanced and Specialist Practice within the Pharmacy profession and supports the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s Faculty Professional Recognition Scheme. The Open learn pathway of the APP programme is designed to allow pharmacists and other health professionals, particularly medical and non-medical prescribers working in primary care, choice and flexibility in their progression to Certificate, Diploma and Masters awards to meet their specific professional development needs and advance their professional practice. Pharmacists can choose modules from across the Department of Medicines Management/School of Pharmacy postgraduate programmes’ portfolio, including Community Pharmacy and Clinical (Hospital) Pharmacy.
Pharmacists, medical and nonmedical prescribers can choose modules from the Prescribing Studies programme, including the Independent Prescribing Preparatory Course for Pharmacists, and also modules provided by other Schools within the Faculty of Health, and other Faculties within the University, subject to meeting the specific entry criteria required for individual modules.

Keele's Pg Advanced Professional Practice Programme aims to:
- Equip you with the clinical and professional knowledge base and skills that you have identified as necessary to fulfil and advance your professional practice

A total of 60 credits is required to achieve the Certificate award, 120 credits for the Diploma and 180 credits for the MSc. The Independent Prescribing Preparatory Course for Pharmacists module (60 credits) from the Prescribing Studies programme may only be used towards a Diploma award.

Achievement of the Master’s award requires you to complete the Professional MSc year. The professional MSc year consists of three compulsory modules: Advanced Practice Development (15 credits), Researching and Evaluating your Practice (15 credits) and the Independent Learning Project (30 credits).

MSc in Advanced Professional Practice (Pharmacy):
This pathway links to all the clusters of the Advanced Pharmacy Framework (APF) (http://www.rpharms.com/faculty-resources/advanced-pharmacy-framework.asp) You will study modules to allow you to develop in all six clusters of the APF: Expert Professional Practice; Collaborative Working Relationships; Leadership; Management; Education, Training and Development; and Research and Evaluation.

Teaching & Assessment

The Advanced Professional Practice Programme is designed principally for distance-learning. We provide mainly online distance-learning materials so that you can study where and when it is most convenient for you. Our methods of delivery allow us to revise and update the course quickly to meet your changing needs as a pharmacist.

Students on the 'Pharmacy' Pathway will be required to attend Keele for occasional face to face study days. Students on the 'Open Learn' pathway maybe required to attend Keele, depending on their module choices.

The Advanced Professional Practice Programme is fully supported by a team of experienced, friendly, and approachable academic, administrative and technical staff based at Keele. You’re not on your own! And, don’t forget the network of other pharmacists on the course whom you can contact.

You will require the equivalent of 1-2 days (approximately 10-15 hours) each week to complete your course. Remember that the online nature of our course materials, and the fact that a good proportion of the assessed work focuses on your daily practice, means that you can integrate study and work.

Assessment is entirely by coursework for the Certificate, Diploma and MSc courses. A variety of assessment methods are used such as Practice-Based Assignments that will assess your knowledge, problem-solving skills, and data interpretation skills in relation to application of knowledge to practice, patient care and medicines management. Case Presentations assess your ability to critically appraise the literature and relate published theory to everyday practice. An Audit Project, Practice-Based Assignments, Project Protocol Development and the Independent Study Project Report assess ‘thinking’ and practical skills, and your ability to plan, conduct and report on an investigation. They also assess your ability to critically appraise the literature and relate published theory to everyday practice. Your Reflective Portfolio also assesses your ability to relate theory to practice, and self evaluation of, and reflection on, your own performance and CPD needs.

The nature of the assessments develops your written and oral communication skills. Practical skills and key life/transferable skills are assessed within the methods described above. Each method of assessment is supported by clear criteria for marking; these are explained in the relevant Course Handbooks. The minimum pass mark is 50%.

The summative assessment is supported by a variety of formative assessment activities that include online discussions, formative feedback on elements of the reflective portfolio, contributions to study days and feedback on draft proposals.

Additional Costs

For all programmes you will need regular access to a computer, email and the internet. However apart from additional costs for text books, inter-library loans and potential overdue library fines we do not anticipate any additional costs for our postgraduate programmes, with the exception of those listed below.

Some modules may require that you attend a Webinar. You may find it beneficial to purchase a headset to participate in webinars, however this is not essential if your computer has a built in microphone and speakers.

Some modules may require that you travel to Keele for a study day. There will be additional travel and accommodation costs (if required) to attend any face to face study days.

The Masters’ in Professional Leadership and Management is an advanced programme of learning for professionals, managers and leaders working in public and community services who wish to develop their leadership capacities and strategic orientation. It is intellectually rigorous, critically examining the relationship between relevant theory, traditions of professional practice and contexts of change and innovation.

Participants will explore the character of professionalism, the professions, challenges to the professions and ways in which – through knowledge and technology, organisational form and regulatory practices - the nature of professional practice is changing. A major and distinctive focus is upon inter-professionalism and both ‘the new governance’ and new ways of working which require inter-professional models of service. The programme examines leadership and management in (and for) these new contexts and the knowledge and skills required to perform what are changing and demanding professional leadership and management roles. It is expected that professionals from health, education and social work will be strongly represented and, so, mutual and shared learning among participants is a core aim of the programme.

Aims of the Programme
The aim of this course is to offer a broad, multi-disciplinary understanding of leadership and management for the public service professions, by bringing together academic insight and research into the professions and public leadership and management with participant and tutor experience of the contexts and character of professional practice. Through this, the wider aim is to promote greater understanding among professionals of the challenges involved in leadership and management of public service organisations, and to stimulate improved practice.

The course therefore aims to:

1) Survey, review and analyse the changing public services context in which professional practice is set
2) Examine, assess and apply ideas of leadership and management in professional and inter-professional contexts
3) Develop participants’ personal awareness, confidence and skills in managing and leading professional practice
4) Develop reflective practice, professional skills and professionals’ ability to analyse, negotiate, and make defensible judgements in complex situations.

Course Structure and Content
The MPLM is a 2 year Part-Time Master’s programme which comprises: 4 core/compulsory modules (total 90 credits: 2 @ 30 credits and 2 @ 15 credits); a further 30 credits of module(s) to be taken as option(s); and a dissertation (60 credits).

Candidates for the Masters take four core/compulsory modules: The State, Professionalism and Inter-Professionalism; Leading and Managing in Multi-agency Settings; Management of Human Resources; and Research Methods. Through their choice of electives, students will be able EITHER to deepen their learning about interprofessional leadership and management OR to ‘specialise’ in the context, form and substance of leadership and management of professional practice in their chosen sector or professional area. The electives offer opportunities variously to pursue further:

a) key aspects of leadership and management, generally;
b) understandings of the public service contexts in which professionals work; or
c) subject knowledge related to complex professional practice.

The Dissertation will normally involve a research project within or related to the work setting, a work task or the student’s management/leadership role.

Assessment
The methods of assessment selected to test achievement of the learning outcomes are intended to provide:

a) a blend of formative and summative assessment, the former intended to support progress towards the learning outcomes

Each module you study awards credit towards a postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma or Masters in Advanced Professional Development.

To graduate with an MSc you need to gain 180 level 7 credits. Each module you study will have a credit value and once successfully completed this credit is added to your total. You carry on adding credit until you have achieved your award. Alternatively, you can leave with a postgraduate certificate after you have completed 60 credits or a postgraduate diploma after you have completed 120 credits.

If you study modules that reflect your professional identity and you go on to complete the full MSc, you can graduate with a specialist masters award. The specialist award titles currently available are:

How the framework operates

Once we receive your application, you can meet up with a course tutor. They work with you to find the best modules for your needs. This may be studying an individual module, choosing a selection of modules that enable you to transfer to a course to gain a professional qualification, or to help to identify a clear route through the framework to give you the skills and experience you need to progress your career.

You can decide your pace of study. You may take up to 60 level seven credits every year. We know how hard it can be to combine demanding work and personal commitments with academic study, so the APP framework allows you to step on and step off at each award level. If you have already carried out some postgraduate level study at another university or in the workplace, you may be able to gain accreditation for your previous experience and learning.

Successful completion of this course enables student to claim exemption from ACCA Fundamental Papers: F1 to F9. Indicative modules
The Programme Co-ordinator will work with you to design your individual pathway through this programme. At the Postgraduate Certificate phase many of the modules provide vehicles for you to import and evidence CPD activity that you may have undertaken in the workplace , or learning from short courses. Once you have applied to the programme you will be allocated a Professional Mentor who will advise and support you in combining taught study with work-based learning.

The MA consists of three phases:
Phase 1: Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Practice.
Phase 2: Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Professional Practice.
Phase 3: MA in Advanced Professional Practice.

This innovative modular Masters programme offers practitioners the opportunity to gain Higher Education credit alongside their work in a range of core and elective modules. Modules can be taken at the University of Chichester and ‘imported’ from other accredited ‘M’ level courses. The MA Advanced Professional Practice is a unique and responsive programme, which allows practitioners to combine taught modules with verification, and accreditation of learning from work based activities and in-house training.

The MA Advanced Professional Practice can be aligned with the outcomes of learning and career development outlined in the Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF)

The following distinctive features ensure that the programme is responsive to practitioner and employer need:

Verification of learning from work-based activities and in-house training

A key feature of the MA Advanced Professional Practice is the opportunity to import work- based projects and in-house training, allowing a greater degree of flexibility and fit with other CPD activity. This is achieved through the use of ‘Shell Modules’, which require students to evidence their attendance of training opportunities, or the time devoted to work-based projects. This evidence constitutes the module ‘content’. The module assignments then assess the outcomes of the CPD activity: how the activity has enhanced the effectiveness of the practitioner or contributed to service development.
A flexible response to accreditation of learning

University of Chichester regulations differ from those of many universities in allowing students to import up to 50% of academic credit from modules and courses completed at other Higher Education Institutions. The advantage of this facility is that students could, for example, complete a module from University A, a course at University B and combine these with further modules, or other forms of CPD, to build credit towards the MA. This approach to CPD accreditation affords practitioners and employers an unprecedented level of choice and flexibility.
Aligning in-house CPD programmes with an M level framework

The flexibilities afforded by the MA Advanced Professional Practice enable employers to deliver CPD Programmes, which also allow staff to gain ‘M’ level credits. This can be achieved through the University approval of CPD programmes delivered by employers, or by use of the shell modules to import in-house learning into the MA, Postgraduate Diploma, or Post Graduate Certificates.
Aligning University modules with in-house CPD strategies

The MA incorporates a number of modules which can be commissioned by employers and the content adapted to specific CPD requirements. This enables employers to address niche CPD interests or to incorporate agency-specific content in the module delivery. A recent example was the commissioning by a local authority of an off-the-shelf module, the content of which was then focused on the specific needs of the organisation’s Occupational Therapists.
Bespoke pathways

It is a challenge to find CPD programmes which accurately reflect the often individualised requirements of individuals or employers. The flexibilities afforded by the MA Advanced Professional Practice enable participants to pursue a truly bespoke and individualised pathway. This is particularly attractive to individuals who have complex or composite roles (for example manager and practitioner) which may not be fully addressed in the more restricted content of traditional programmes.
Blended learning

Our blended learning approach has developed with emerging technologies for enhanced communication. Our experience and research in learning and teaching have highlighted the need for a personalised approach for some learners. We understand the high levels of motivation required for independent study and many of our learners need the support of tutors and fellow students to retain their engagement with study. We offer named tutors who support students and can, where necessary, signpost them to other services, as well as a combination of traditional and emerging methods of study to enhance students’ engagement and experience.

Our unique, combined academic English and masters course is for non-native speakers of English, including students from the European Union (EU) as well as international students. On this two-year course you will improve the academic and language skills you need for a masters, enhancing your ability to research, reference correctly and avoid plagiarism.

Class time: Minimum of 13 hours per week of Academic English and subject specific modules in Year 1 plus personal tutorials and an approximately equal amount of self-study. Year 2 class time depends on the masters chosen.

Teaching Materials: The cost of teaching materials varies per module but will not exceed £20 for any one module. Many of the materials are available for loan free-of-charge from the University library.

Please note: Your class timetable will be provided at induction. All classes take place from Monday to Friday.

Class size: Maximum 20 students for English Classes.

Teaching dates:

Semester 1 teaching is from 28 September 2015 to 18 December 2015. There will be no teaching during the Christmas holiday period of 21 December 2015 to 8 January 2016. The semester 1 assessment and exam period is from 11 January 2016 to 22 January 2016.

Semester 2 teaching is from 1 February 2016 to 18 March 2016 and 4 April 2016 to 6 May 2016. There will be no teaching during the Easter holiday period of 21 March 2016 to to April 2016. The semester 2 assessment and exam period is from 9 May 2016 to 20 May 2016.

Year One Core Modules

Research Skills
You will develop your ability to conduct research in English. This includes learning how to find information from online and written sources, making effective notes, planning your assignments, using both in-text and bibliographic references correctly, writing in your own words, and avoiding plagiarism

Language Studies
This module supports the Research Skills module and is essential to that module. Skills you will develop include academic writing and an awareness of context and argument. You will also study a range of language structures and vocabulary that you will need to support your studies

Cultural Skills
You will develop your awareness of British culture, especially in relation to university life and student culture. You will study areas such as: student contemporary language, stereotypes and perceptions of the UK, the UK education system and the role of English as an international language.

Independent Study
During the second semester of Year 1, you will research and write a project linked to your area of Masters study. You will engage in primary and secondary research and be supported throughout by a personal supervisor who will be assigned to you.

You will also study 2 modules from the receiving Faculty where you will eventually study your masters in Year two of the course. You will study these modules in preparation for your masters and will be in the same lectures and tutorials as British students.

This part-time Masters award offers you a career-enhancing and attractive way of supporting and accrediting your Continuous Personal and Professional Development (CPPD) in Education. The emphasis is on flexibility, collegiality, collaboration, with a focus on practice and a critical approach to professionalism, underpinned by applied research. The MEd uses a suite of modules delivered across 3 semesters, at the UCLan campus in Preston and in selected partner colleges. It is linked to a range of professional development awards providing flexible access and progression. You choose modules to complement your professional needs, culminating in an applied project for the MEd. The Masters in Education programme has interim target and exit awards of PG Certificate and PG Diploma.

To gain the MEd, you need 9 modules (8 at Level 7). The PGDiploma is gained from completing 6 modules, which can build on the PGCert in FE, or the PGCert in LTHE, or the PGCert Midwifery. The Masters then requires a Triple Masters Project in the final year.

As a practice focused professional award, learning is situated in and around practice and therefore part-time students can build on study to develop careers, enhance educational and organisational practice and to feed learning directly back into their setting.

Because of the nature of this award learning around specific modules can be used to inform professional status and good standing linked to the UK Professional Standards Framework.

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AND ASSESSMENT

This part-time professional development Masters uses theory, scholarship and research to inform and support reflection and critique of work-based practice. The learning environment emphasises collegial and collaborative learning with a community of practitioners from all educational settings. Learning emphasises the social construction of knowledge with peers using learning sets, workshops, peer-supported reflection and draws on practice and scholarship to support the development of scholarly professionals and work-based learning.

Assessment is varied and encourages creativity in assignments so that assessment acts as a vehicle supporting and structuring learning: dialogue, critical discussions, presentations, academic papers, posters, reflective writing, portfolios, annotated bibliographies and academic papers form some of the range of assessments within the programme.

Professional Practice in Applied Sport and Exercise Sciences
Focuses on the completion of professional and academic projects, which represent the contents of the research programme developed in the training plan. Focuses on the completion of self-directed learning tasks relevant to an individual’s area of professional expertise.
Reflection in Applied Sport and Exercise Sciences
Students reflect on their individual learning journey for both professional and academic orientated activities – specifically the completion of a designated programme of research. Also includes a viva voce on the theoretical and practical knowledge and skill base of each candidate.

You are a qualified occupational therapist who wishes to take your professional knowledge and skills to an advanced level of practice in order to enhance your career prospects and extend your perspective on professional practice.

About the Course
The University of Northampton boasts one of the longest established Occupational Therapy Schools in the UK and has a very highly regarded professional reputation. The course will be delivered by University staff and a range of external speakers, bringing their own experience and current research to your learning. University staff have extensive experience of international teaching and learning and offer a structured international induction including diagnostic assessment, online and face to face support. The course will encourage you to develop a critical, research and evaluative approach to the knowledge which underpins present-day professional practice and evidence-based decisions. Current issues within occupational therapy practice will be considered critically and explored in relation to occupational science.

The course begins in September each year and takes 12 months to complete.
