The market for postgraduate qualifications in logistics and supply chain management (SCM) has been growing rapidly. Companies are demanding that senior managers are better qualified and better prepared to address the deeper issues involved in the twin goals of cost reduction and service enhancement.

This programme offers a unique curriculum that includes many practical examples of logistics and SCM in action. We are one of very few university programmes in the UK which has been accredited by both the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) and the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS). This means that students are recognised by these professional bodies as holding their professional qualifications to full professional status level 6 upon completion of the Masters programme. Students participate in CILT and CIPS activities including the CILT student conference. Students will visit industrial locations, have seminars given by guest speakers from industry and collaborate with business partners for dissertation projects.

In the final stage of the programme, all students will undertake a one week consultant project organised by the university, which has been highly valued by previous students.

The aims of the programme are:

- To gain a systematic understanding of relevant knowledge about logistics and supply chain management

- To be able to apply relevant knowledge to a range of complex situations taking account of relationships and interaction with other areas of business or organisations within logistics and supply chain networks

- To obtain critical awareness of current issues in logistics and supply chain management and e-supply chain management which is informed by leading edge research and practice in the field.

Course detail

Supply chain networks are the skeletons that underpin the business world. These networks are increasingly global in nature, with products consisting of parts manufactured in different regions of the world, assembled in other locations, and then shipped across continents to retailers and consumers. Such complex networks consist of manufacturers and their suppliers, shippers and carriers using various modes of transportation, distribution centers where the products are stored and sent to retailers which ultimately supply the customers. Supply chains involve many decision-makers interacting with one another, sometimes competing, and at other times cooperating out of necessity.

The Master in Supply Chain Management focuses on the analysis, design, management, and operation of supply chains in manufacturing and professional service industries. Using a broad definition of supply chain management (SCM), supply chain problems are being tackled in profit and non-profit environments. The former includes retailers, wholesalers, logistics service providers, manufacturers, and suppliers, while the latter includes the public sector and non-governmental organizations, for example in disaster relief logistics.

Format

You can choose two out of six specialization areas following your interests:

- Business Analytics in Supply Chains
- Location Analytics and Geospatial Data
- Retail Marketing
- Supply Chain Finance and Risks
- Sustainable and Humanitarian Supply Chains
- Transport and Logistics.

A thorough international experience

The Master's program in Supply Chain Management focuses not only on global issues connected to supply chains but also attracts many international students. The student body is made up of a broad variety of nationalities. The students who enrolled in the fall of 2014 come from 18 different countries, located on four continents. Hence, the program offers a truly international experience through an international education, an internationally renowned faculty as well as an international culture among the students throughout the two years.

Career Prospects
