This postgraduate programme integrates the clinical, academic and research components of paediatric physiotherapy practice. The emphasis is on the management of paediatric patients with cardiorespiratory, neurological and musculoskeletal disorders. Flexibility in selection of modules allows for physiotherapists with particular interests to be accommodated.

Degree information

This MSc offers physiotherapy students the opportunity to extend their understanding of key areas in this field, including challenging the foundations of established but poorly justified treatments, developing and undertaking clinical research, learning about new and emerging treatment options and enjoying the mentorship of recognised experts in paediatric physiotherapy.

Students undertake modules to the value of 180 credits.

The programme consists of five core modules (75 credits), three optional modules (45 credits), and the research dissertation (60 credits).

A Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits, full-time nine months, flexible study 2-5 years) is offered. Students take 75 credits of core modules and 45 credits of optional modules. A Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits, part-time nine months) is offered. Students take 60 credits of core modules.

Dissertation/report
All students undertake an independent research project which culminates in a substantial report and an oral examination.

Teaching and learning
The programme is delivered through a combination of teaching and self-directed learning. Assessment is through written assignments, oral presentations, multiple choice texts, submission of the literature review and research proposal, assessed coursework, unseen and prior disclosure written examinations, and the dissertation with an oral presentation.

Careers

The programme will enable graduates to pursue a career in academic, research or clinical practice, or to use their postgraduate qualification to be successful in applying for more senior positions within their career field.

What is Sports Performance Analysis?

Performance analysis is the newest of the sports science disciplines and investigates actual sports performance or performance in training. Analysis can include technical, tactical, KPIs, coaching behaviour and movement analysis within a game. It can also cover pre-match, live and post-match analysis, scouting, talent identification and trend analysis.

What is the MSc in Sports Performance Analysis about?
This programme has been developed in response to the marked growth in the demand for people with performance analysis knowledge, competencies and skills across a range of sporting clubs and organisations and it will be an area of expansion in the future. This innovative MSc (Level 9, 90 credits) programme will prepare graduates for future opportunities in perfomance analysis by offering a blend or theory and practice ensuring practical knowledge underpinned with a theoretical foundation. The programme is aligned with a number of National Governing Bodies of Sport to faciliitate experiential learning. Graduates will be well equipped to serve sport organisations and teams (national & international) but also feed into and drive the sports performance analysis research agenda both in Ireland and internationally.

Who is this programme for?
This programme is highly vocational and practical in nature and is carefully aligned to industry needs, but is underpinned by solid theoretical foundations. The programme will be beneficial to those either wishing to seek future opportunities in Performance Analysis, those currently employed within a club or organisation with a performance analysis role and / or those wishing to move into such a role.

The Department of Psychology & counseling offers a Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology. The need for qualified clinicians and mental health professionals to serve the community necessitated the establishment of this program. The Master of Science program is designed to provide proper training for Masters level psychologists to work in a variety of clinical settings including hospitals, schools, public agencies, and private practice. It also provides a foundation for students interested in pursuing advanced doctoral studies. The program focuses on the field of clinical psychology. The curriculum is structured to enable students pursue a plan of study to assure increased professional competence and breadth of knowledge in the field of clinical psychology. This program requires 39 semester hours of study, including two practicum courses (600 clock hours) of supervised practicum experience in an approved mental health or rehabilitation setting.
