The Advanced Paediatrics MSc course is a multidisciplinary master’s degree designed for doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other allied health professionals. This advanced study programme concentrates on expanding your research and evidence-based evaluation skills in clinical practice and leadership, as well as enhancing your career opportunities in research and academia.
The Advanced Paediatrics MSc will provide you with a detailed understanding of research methods and statistics applied to the provision of child health, as well as the knowledge and understanding to conduct reliable methodological research projects. You will be working with an established faculty with advanced knowledge of the management processes in NHS Trusts.
The course is made up of optional and required modules and offers you the flexibility to study either full or part-time. You will explore a range of required modules such as Paediatric Research: Methods, Statistical Application & Governance, Service Delivery & Management, Leadership & Professional Development as well as Ethics & Child Health and a dissertation. You must take modules totalling 180 credits to complete the course, where 60 credits will come from a research project and dissertation of around 15,000 words. If you are studying full-time, you will complete the course in one year, from September to September. If you are studying part-time, your programme will take two years to complete, you will take the required modules in the first year, and the dissertation in your second year.
You will be taught through a combination of lectures, seminars and self study.

This programme aims to provide doctors practising or intending to practise in developing countries with a critical understanding of the evidence for the control and management of diseases in childhood with particular reference to endemic diseases in tropical countries. Students will develop their ability to appraise the evidence that underlies current practice, undertake research and lead improvements in the quality of health services delivered to children in both hospital and community settings. The curriculum reflects current national and international priorities and policies in global child health. Following the taught component, which does not include a formal hospital attachment or bed side teaching, participants complete a dissertation including a period of applied research either overseas or in Liverpool.
LSTM education courses are taught within a dynamic environment by staff working at the cutting-edge of research in tropical medicine and global health. They are designed to enable the professional development of the student, to be relevant to students from both the UK and overseas and to promote approaches to study that will enable students to continue their learning into the future.

The MSc Tropical Paediatrics provides a wide range of skills and training for paediatricians planning academic and clinical careers in the tropics. This MSc is often a starting point for career progression, and together with a successful dissertation/research project, it can strengthen your CV when applying for promotion in clinical settings. This MSc is a great springboard into clinical academic routes, with previous students being successful in various PhD Fellowships. Also, many students have had their research projects published in peer reviewed journals, enhancing their standing in the academic research environment.

The course is applicable to students with a wide range of background skills in paediatrics and child health who require a detailed understanding of core research methodolgies, critical evaluationm evidence-based approaches and the scientific basis of childhood disease. The programme emphases not only the clinical aspects of paediatric care, but also the provision of care which will be imbued within the clinical modules.
There's also the opportunity to plan and excute a rigorous research project in an area of paediatrics and child health or related speciality (ie neonatology).
the course content has been carefully designed to train students to be high achieving consultants and clinical leaders of the future, by providing a blend of clinical knowledge with learning in the three key professional domains of research, leadership and communication and learning -along with the development of research and publishing skills.
Most modules are assessed by 3,000 word written assignments which are centred on case studies or a relevant optic agreed between the student and the module leader. Some modules include interactive role play and poster presentations as part of the assesment. The MSc is also assesed by a 12,000 word dissertation.
