This programme teaches students the skills required to manage a software project by producing criteria to monitor the project's progress and measure outcomes. Students learn how to formulate requirements for a business system and are given an underpinning in the nature of software development and its inherent complexity. The programme also covers system modelling and user interface and database design. Students learn to develop a system from determining its requirements and graphic user interface to database implementation.

This programme is of particular interest to those with a first degree in business or with business experience. Students are given an understanding of the information technologies upon which e-commerce is built and how these technologies provide us with new ways of organising and managing business. On successful completion of this programme, students should be proficient in the development of Internet, web and database technologies. They should also have the project management skills required for IT consultancy and strategic decision making.

The MSc Global Supply Chain Management is an exciting and focussed programme for those considering a career in supply chain or logistics.

You will study issues relating to the development of supplier relationships, operations improvement, procurement strategies, inventory control, logistics operations, sustainability, as well as contemporary issues affecting these areas.

Our students come from a number of countries, including Brazil, Mexico, USA, Canada, Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Germany, France, Greece, Turkey, China and South Korea. Typically Brunel students have work experience in the supply chain or logistics areas or are those seeking employment in these areas.

Aims

This programme will equip students with the tools, techniques and skills necessary to secure employment in this exciting and increasingly important area. Specifically, you will be able to:

Brunel Business School won the Times Higher Education Awards Business School of the Year 2013

The programme includes a series of guest lectures, supply chain and procurement conferences, company visits and employability workshops.Past visits have included site tours of Mini and Jaguar car plants, as well as visits from LEAN specialists at Rolls Royce and Wiles Greenworld.

In addition, on completion of the MSc GSCM programme, successful graduates can apply to become full members of Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, subject to having satisfied the three year relevant work experience requirement.

Also, graduates successfully completing this degree will have met the educational requirements for Chartered Membership (CMILT) of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS)
The Brunel MSc Global Supply Chain Management is one of a small number of programmes in the United Kingdom to receive accreditation from the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). Students on this programme will have the opportunity to become members of these organisations and receive invites to procurement and supply chain activities in and around London.

Operations and Information Systems Management Research Group (OISM)
Based on accumulated knowledge and resources in two previously successful research centres of the Business School (ISEing led by Habin Lee and Ray Hackney; and OASIS previously led by Amir Sharif and David Gallear), OISM has the ambition to be a leading research group specialised in responsible and sustainable operation management - exploring information systems, operations research, management science, and general and strategic management knowledge, using approaches across public and private industry sectors.

Modes of Study

1-year full-time in September: The taught element of the course (September to April) includes eight modules; delivery will be by a combination of lectures, seminars and tutorials/group work. A further four months (May to September) is spent undertaking the dissertation.

Assessment

Modules are typically assessed by individual assessment, or an examination in May.

Teaching methods include lectures and informal small study groups.

Coursework and examinations place considerable stress on the ability to think and reason critically, but constructively.

The dissertation (12,000 words) is the capstone demonstration of these skills, requiring students to conceive, justify, design and execute a major project.

Individual and/or group presentations using laptops, PCs and digital projectors.

UK Industrial and Commercial Visits

Where possible, events and external visits are arranged with UK organisations to help demonstrate theory in practice.

The Institute of Computer and Communications Law (ICCL) offers online distance learning programmes that leads to the award of a Queen Mary University of London, Postgraduate Certificate in Computer and Communications Law.

The programme draws on our established teaching and research expertise in IT law, e-commerce law, communications law, computer law and media law.

Law as a subject is particularly suitable for online learning in that it is primarily text-based, so delivery of teaching materials is not restricted by bandwidth limitations. Most of the relevant materials for computer and communications law are available in digital format from databases such as Lexis and Westlaw to which you gain access through your Queen Mary Student account. We use a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) as a platform to deliver clear course structures, teaching materials and to create interactive courses. Your e-learning experience is enhanced by tutorials using discussion boards, blog postings and live chat for class discussions and question and answer sessions. We have designed the course to allow as much interaction and feedback between students and tutors as possible. Your understanding will be deepened by discussing your reading with fellow students and your course tutor and carrying out short tasks related to the course. We also use audio and audio-visual presentations. You will not need to have access to a local law library, a basic internet connection and browser is all that is needed to do the course.

Flexible Learning

Completion of the Certificate takes one to two years, part-time and is tailored for the needs of busy practitioners or other lawyers who would like to obtain knowledge in the computer and communications law field. Students may switch to the Diploma (120 credits) or the LLM (180 credits) after completing the Certificate.

Programme structure
You can study Computer and Communications Law to Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma or LLM level, by distance learning.

The programme is tailored for you if you wish to obtain a specialist Certificate in Digital Media Law, Certificate in IT or IP Law, Certificate in E-commerce Law or a Certificate in Communications Law. The certificate requires the successful completion of 60 credits over a minimum of one year, which can be completed as follows:
◦four taught modules, or

On successful completion of the certificate you may switch to the diploma. The diploma must be completed within a minimum of two years, and a maximum of six years. The diploma requires the successful completion of 120 credits, which can be completed as follows:

What will you study?

The programme is delivered on a full-time basis over one year, starting in September. You will be expected to attend scheduled sessions throughout the day (although not necessarily all day) between Monday and Friday.

In the first semester, you will develop a broad understanding of management concepts, theories and ideas, such as how to manage organisations and supply chains. This provides you with a solid foundation from both strategic and operational perspectives.
In the second semester and dissertation, you will put this knowledge to use through practical application to real situations. One example is through company visits, which students often arrange for themselves. This course gives you the cutting edge analytical approaches, methodologies and tools you need to confidently tackle problems and improve outcomes.

It allows you to specialize in a diverse range of areas including:

The aim of the course is to give students a solid quantitative foundation alongside practical problem-solving techniques. The core of the course is formed by four analytics units covering fundamental toolkit areas of decision sciences, applied operational research and statistics. You then chose four other units from a broad range of options, according to your interests, background and intended career directions.

The course is intended to provide management, engineering, science, mathematics, economics or similar graduates who have a solid quantitative foundation with deeper analytical skills and an understanding of how these are applied to business and management problems.

We run a core module on Data Analytics which will introduce students to SAS Enterprise. A coursework prize for this project will be sponsored by SAS.

Recent highlights included a case study run by British Airways,a presentation from SAS on the Future of Analytics and ongoing dissertation projects with Unilever and LBM.

Coursework and assessment

Assessment varies depending on course units taken. It may include a combination of course work, group project assessment and presentations, report, assignments, in-class tests and examination. The dissertation normally ranges between 12,000 and 25,000 words.

There are many potential career roles for postgraduates with an understanding of analytical approaches in business and management - including job titles such as operational research analyst, systems analyst, risk analyst, financial analyst, performance analyst, business analyst, marketing analyst, business modeller, and operations, logistics, production, project, risk, quality, performance, or general manager. Commercial products today combine many technologies, and industry is increasingly interdisciplinary. This course is designed to meet this demand, giving you an interdisciplinary knowledge base in modern electronics including power, communications, control and embedded processors.

You’ll develop a broad grasp of a range of interlocking disciplines, combining core modules developing your practical lab skills and industry awareness with a range of optional modules that allow you to focus on topics that suit your interests or career plans. Next-generation silicon technologies, electric drives and generating electric power from renewable sources are among the topics you could study.

This course will appeal to people with a broad interest in electronics and communications, as well as those who are interested in modern communications techniques, radio propagation, cellular mobile systems, control systems, power and drives, and modern system on-chip technology.

Specialist facilities

Our School is an exciting and stimulating environment where you’ll learn from leading researchers in specialist facilities. These include our Keysight Technologies wireless communications lab, as well as labs for embedded systems, power electronics and drives.

Depending on your choice of project, you may have use of our Terahertz photonics lab, ultrasound and bioelectronics labs, class 100 semiconductor cleanroom, traffic generators and analysers, FPGA development tools, sensor network test beds.

The School also contains facilities for electron-beam lithography and ceramic circuit fabrication – and a III-V semiconductor molecular beam epitaxy facility. The Faculty is also home to the £4.3 million EPSRC National Facility for Innovative Robotic Systems, set to make us a world leader in robot design and construction.

This course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) under licence from the UK regulator, the Engineering Council.

Course content

Throughout the course you’ll choose from a range of optional modules that allow you to pursue topics across electronic and electrical engineering as they relate to your interests or career plans. You could focus on FPGA design for system-on-chip, wireless communications systems nano-electromechanical systems among many others to gain a broad and deep understanding a range of subjects.

A set of core modules will support your learning. You’ll take part in a range of experiments linked to your subject on our lab module, and you’ll develop your skills in programming. If you have no experience of C programming you’ll take the Programming module, or you can take Software Development if you already have those skills.

To build your understanding of the global electronics industry, you’ll also complete a dissertation. This could take the form of a business, manufacturing or outsourcing plan, a proposal for research funding or an essay on a specific aspect of the industry.

Over the summer months you’ll also work on your research project. This may give you the chance to work as an integral part of one of our active research groups, focusing on a specialist topic in computer science and selecting the appropriate research methods.

You’ll study core power engineering topics such as power electronic converters, machines and control alongside modules specific to renewable energy sources, on topics like power system modelling, analysis and power converters.

At the same time, you’ll study a unique set of modules on the efficient generation of electricity from solar and wind power, as well as integrating renewable generators into micro-grids, with stability analysis and active power management. Power electronics design is covered in depth, including conventional and emerging converter topologies and advances in semiconductor power devices.

You’ll be prepared to meet the renewable energy challenges of the 21st century in a wide range of careers.

Our School is an exciting and stimulating environment where you’ll learn from leading researchers in specialist facilities. These include our Keysight Technologies wireless communications lab, as well as labs for embedded systems, power electronics and drives.

Depending on your choice of research project, you may also have access to our labs in ultrasound and bioelectronics or our Terahertz photonics lab, class 100 semiconductor cleanroom, traffic generators and analysers, FPGA development tools, sensor network test beds. We have facilities for electron-beam lithography and ceramic circuit fabrication – and a III-V semiconductor molecular beam epitaxy facility.

This course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) under licence from the UK regulator, the Engineering Council.

Course content

Core modules that run throughout the year will allow you to take part in different lab-based projects and explore different forms of renewable energy as well as how they can be integrated into electricity systems. You’ll also consider how renewable source-powered generations can be integrated into the grid and analysis and design of control systems.

To build your understanding of the global electronics industry, you’ll also complete a dissertation. This could take the form of a business, manufacturing or outsourcing plan, a proposal for research funding or an essay on a specific aspect of the industry.

You’ll complete your studies with three optional modules, selecting one from each of three pairs that cover different topics. If you have no experience of c-programming you’ll take a module that develops those skills, or another focusing on software development. You’ll choose between Power Electronics and Drives and Electric Drives and take another module from Energy Management and Conservation and Energy in Buildings.

Over the summer months you’ll also work on your research project. This gives you the chance to work as an integral part of one of our active research groups, focusing on a specialist topic in power electronics, power engineering and control and selecting the appropriate research methods.

Renewable energy and efficient power conversion systems are of immense importance worldwide and graduates of this course can expect to find jobs in a wide variety of industries including the electronics, automotive, transport, construction, industrial automation, power utility, energy, oil and environmental sectors.

You’ll be well-placed to develop practical solutions to the problem of integrating renewable energy systems into established electricity distribution networks. You should be able to contribute to strategic planning, systems implementation and operation of sustainable power generation systems.

You’ll also take a core lab-based module to give you experience of different circuits, systems, equipment and tools.

If you don’t have any experience of C programming, you’ll take Programming – otherwise, you can choose to take either this module of Software Development. Then you’ll choose one additional module specialising either in data communications and network security or the principles of digital wireless communications.
