What is the programme format?

The programme is designed for busy executives who need to combine career and family commitments with the demands of MBA studies. The flexibility of the part-time approach enables most participants to graduate within two years. However, study may be spread over a longer period if necessary, to a maximum of six years.

Typically, your MBA studies will be made up of:
- monthly intensive seminars delivered by Strathclyde academics at our centre in Oman
- regular tutorials with our locally based counsellors
- off-campus learning and support facilitated by our virtual learning environment.

You’ll work in an international environment alongside like-minded classmates and be part of our long established network of students and alumni from our international postgraduate centres.

A highlight of the Strathclyde calendar is the annual MBA Summer School which takes place in Glasgow, over May and June. The summer school is open to all study routes of the MBA who have reached the elective stage of the programme. It's a great way to accelerate your studies, and network with a large group of international colleagues.

There are two intakes per year for the Strathclyde MBA in Oman in October and April.

Entry requirements

Our selection process is designed to identify talented professionals from a wide range of academic, business and cultural backgrounds.

While there are formal requirements for entry listed below, we take into consideration:
- your potential
- your interpersonal and team working qualities
- the range and nature of your managerial experience

In order to assess these skills we ask you to complete a number of essays outlining your experience and aspirations alongside references supporting your work experience and academic record.

We may ask you to undertake a formal interview to discuss your achievements and aspirations. We also encourage you to visit the school or centre you’re applying to and to ask as many questions as you need.

Qualifications & experience

For entry to the MBA programme you must:
- hold a degree from a UK university, or equivalent academic qualification from a comparable non-UK institution. If you studied for your undergraduate degree at a non-UK institution we will need a copy of your degree transcript. Professional qualifications will also be considered.
- be at least 24 years of age.
- have a minimum of three years' full-time postgraduate experience where the management of people and resources has played a significant role.

Entry at Diploma level may be offered to applicants who do not hold sufficient recognised degree level qualifications, but who do:
- hold non-degree/professional qualifications plus at least five years' varied management experience.
- have no formal qualifications but extensive and varied management experience (10 or more years).
- are exceptional candidates over the age of 24 with a minimum of two years' managerial experience. This is available only to candidates applying to routes other than full-time.

Admissions testing

Although the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) is not a standard requirement of our admissions process, strong verbal reasoning and numerical abilities are critical for the MBA and we may ask you to undertake such a test.

Competence in English

The MBA programme is highly interactive and requires a high level of competence in English speaking, writing, reading and understanding. A minimum score of 6.5 in IELTS is required if your first language is not English. We may consider applicants who fall slightly below these standards if they're willing to undertake pre-sessional study.

What you’ll study

You will complete a 15,000-word dissertation based on a relevant human resources issue. In preparation for this, students will have already completed Research Methods for HR Professionals. Research for the dissertation will normally be conducted within the students own organisation.

Learning & teaching

Learning methods used over the course will include a mixture of:
- Face-to-face lecturing when introducing new concepts and theories –delivered by full-time Strathclyde faculty or Strathclyde-appointed adjunct faculty
- Tutorials to reinforce, apply and develop key concepts and communication skills – generally given by local tutors appointed in consultation with Strathclyde

Course Content

The MSc is a one year full time course consisting of taught material and a substantial research project. Teaching is delivered by academic experts within the Department of Chemistry as well as external experts from other academic institutions and industry. The Teaching component of the course is delivered via a mix of lectures, workshops, seminars and practical work. You will learn about the key principles of green chemistry and the importance of sustainable technology in a variety of areas. In addition to this, you will also have the opportunity to enhance your transferable skills.

Assessment methods include a closed examination, written assignments, presentations, posters and practical work.

Research Project

A key part of the MSc in Green Chemistry is the research project. The whole course is 180 credits and the research project accounts for 100 of these so is a very significant part of the programme.

Students are able to choose from a range of project areas in order to carry out research in their area of interest. Projects will be supervised by an academic member of staff, and may also involve collaboration with industry. Projects are chosen in the early stages of the course and you will be allocated to a PAG - Project Area Group - that corresponds with larger research projects that are currently taking place within the Green Chemistry Centre.

Projects can vary each year, but examples of recent MSc students' research includes:
-Production of natural flavours and fragrances using biocatalysis in scCO2

This programme is for those who have been working within the aviation industry (for at least two years). Current students include pilots, air traffic controllers, maintenance staff, engineers and the majority have a license/professional education. We also welcome students with a military background. This Air Transport Management MSc programme is tailored towards those working who cannot attend regular university schedules.

This course is compatible with The MoD's Enhanced Learning Credits Administration Service (ELCAS) - an initiative to promote lifelong learning amongst members of the UK Armed Forces. Teaching and learning

Each elective is assessed by two pieces of coursework, the core modules are assessed by one piece of coursework and an examination. Each module comprises:
-Part I: Prior reading before the module where appropriate.
-Part II: Attendance at City (or other locations) for the module over three days.
-Part III: Examinations are held on the third day of the core modules.
-Part IV: Coursework is due within six weeks from the last day of the module.

Modules

We explore air transport management from a broad perspective so you will be exposed to areas as diverse as human resources, regulation, and crisis management. The academic framework has been created by the industry for the industry. There is a high degree of flexibility in terms of sequence and time frame to suit students working in airlines, air traffic control, air forces and other organisations.

Students also take on a project/dissertation in an air transport related subject, which is usually completed within six to twelve months. From developing new safety measures to social media marketing in the aviation world, students choose their own research focus and often use the project as a way into a new career. Students who choose note to do the project, or are unable to complete the programme with the five years can receive a Postgraduate Certificate pending Programme Director approval.

We cover the full spectrum of a Master of Science education, adding Management modules for the future career in aviation. The dissertation at the end of the MSc programme gives each student the opportunity to demonstrate the new research and project management qualifications achieved through the programme.

The programme is based on the successful completion of the Induction Workshop which acts as an entry pathway to the MSc. The MSc consists of three core modules and 5 electives plus the project/dissertation. Each module is taught over a three day period across global locations including London, Dubai and Frankfurt.

The dissertation at the end of the MSc programme gives each student the opportunity to demonstrate the new research and project management qualifications achieved through the programme.

Coursework can be individual or set in groups, which helps to develop your skills in team-working. Full assessment information will be provided to students before modules commence.

TEACHING CONTACT HOURS

In a typical week you will normally have up to 14 hours of teaching contact with staff. In addition, you can meet with your personal tutor or lecturing staff during published “office hours sessions” which will allow you to discuss problems or investigate further topics that interested you in a lecture. An average teaching week will normally break down as:
-Personal/small group teaching – 1 hour of tutorials
-Medium group teaching – 4 hours of practical classes, workshops or seminars each week

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Assessment on your course will vary dependent on the module being studied. Some of the modules are 100% coursework and others will be assessed through a mixture of coursework assignments and formal examinations. In addition to written tasks you may be required to do a presentation to ensure that you develop a full range of communication skills. Coursework can be individual or set in groups, which helps to develop your skills in team-working. Full assessment information will be provided to students before modules commence.

WORK PLACEMENTS

As part of our MBA programmes students have the option of enrolling on the internship placement.

This module normally lasts between 8–12 weeks and provides students with an opportunity to undertake a workplace project on behalf of an organisation.

One of the first EdD programmes to be established in the UK and offering a range of pathways, the EdD at Exeter is offered by modular study and is specifically directed to professional development through research. The programme is of particular relevance to experienced practitioners in education from the UK, EU or overseas and the academic tutors recognise the particular needs, interests and policy contexts of students who are also professionals in their own right.

The EdD is a ‘Professional Doctorate’ which is equivalent in level to a PhD, but includes a modular phase as well as the thesis. It is particularly suited to professionals who aim to link research closely with their existing professional practice. The PhD is more suited to those planning to become professional researchers.

The taught element of the EdD programme introduces different understandings of, and approaches to, educational research, including distinctive methodologies and methods. You can explore, in depth, a particular field of study, together with its implications for your own professional practice.

This online MSc programme is modular in structure, with all teaching and interactions delivered online through our virtual learning environment (Moodle). During a course, from week to week you will interact with your teachers and fellow students using online discussion boards. A variety of teaching approaches will be used including lectures, group based activities, presentations and discussions.

The underlying ethos is that sustainable waste management requires scientific and managerial expertise as it changes focus from the safe, least-cost disposal of unwanted materials to their best use as a resource, and their optimal management in the long term.

MSc Waste and Resource Management provides a critical approach to theories, techniques and methods in sustainable waste management and provides students with a learning environment in which they will develop their capacity for independent study, their ability to collaborate with others in team settings, and their capacity for critical thought and reflection. The broad areas covered include: environmental management systems, policy regulation and leadership, waste as a resource, practical aspects of waste management and advanced waste treatment technologies.

The course is currently accredited by the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM).

A combination of coursework and examinations. The coursework types include technical reports, case studies essays and student-centred work. Examinations will be held on campus.

Teaching will be through lectures, case studies, seminars and site visits, supported by materials developed by external experts. The Dissertation allows for a student-centred study, developing a high level of research skills appropriate to their strengths. Various methods will enhance students' thinking skills, including case studies allowing application of knowledge to real-life scenarios.

Careers are developed throughout waste/environmental management industries. Recent employers include consultancy firms, local government, NGOs, landfill site operators and the Environment Agency. This strong employment record underlines the School’s philosophy in delivering programmes of a high quality.

As part of this course there is the opprtunity to study waste mangement as part of an overseas field trip. Destinations have included Kenya, Poland, Canada and Oman.

WORK PLACEMENTS

As part of our MBA programmes students have the option of enrolling on the internship placement.

This module normally lasts between 8–12 weeks and provides students with an opportunity to undertake a workplace project on behalf of an organisation.

Coventry University Business School works closely with companies across the UK and Europe to offer a wide variety of internships.

Students must successfully meet the following assessment criteria:
-Academic: successfully complete all Semester 1 modules including research methods at the first attempt
-CV shortlisting: submit a CV, which will be used for competitive short listing by the internship panel
-Presentation: prepare and successfully deliver a formal presentation
-Interview: interview with the University internship panel

After completing the Internship, you are required to write an extensive report based on the managerial and educational experience derived from the internship itself and present your findings to both the employers and academic staff.
