Course Description

Our innovative MSc International Business (Dual Award) course enables you to achieve two M-level degrees, from two different universities, faster and at a lower cost than taking them one after the other. It's an opportunity to make a major impact on your career in a relatively short period of time, broadening your horizons and giving you sought-after international exposure.

You will begin by exploring the core areas of International Business here at Nottingham Business School. You will then build on this by studying for a term at one of our acclaimed partner institutions (ISCTE in Lisbon, Portugal; KEDGE in Marseille, France; ESC Clermont in France, or Brescia University in Italy).

See the website https://www.ntu.ac.uk/study-and-courses/courses/find-your-course/business/pg/2017-18/international-business-dual-award

Study tour

The study tour takes place each year, all students have the opportunity to take part. The cost of the trip is covered by your tuition fees, and all students will be provided with help and support in applying for the necessary visas.

The destination and style of the trip varies each year, but previous destinations have included Lisbon, Brescia and Venice.

While abroad you will have the chance to take part in a number of activities, including industry visits, networking opportunities, attending lectures and seminars at a summer school, and of course some sight-seeing. The trip is also normally linked to your consultancy project, giving you the opportunity to meet the organisation you are working for, and present your ideas directly back to them.

The trip has proven itself to be a key factor in the success of the programme, with students benefiting from the business and cultural aspects of it. Some students have also been successful in securing internships with organisations involved.

Study and support

Teaching and learning methods are centred around interactive workshops which are highly participative in nature and will employ case studies, discussions, business simulations and group activities.

Interactivity is key to our teaching and we are committed to providing courses that adopt teaching methods that are appropriate to the student cohort and the specific modules.

We ensure that support and guidance is in place, especially during the early stages of the course and assessment periods, to help you become comfortable with operating in a student-centred learning environment.

Assessment methods

A range of assessment methods are used across the course, the choice of which reflects the needs and demands of the different types of module. Some modules will assess the ability to work collaboratively in a team and others will assess individual capability. Types of assessment will range from examinations to group presentations including essays, reports, financial analyses, literature reviews and research-based projects.

The interactive nature of the taught sessions offers opportunities to gain feedback on your performance before being formally assessed and increasing use is made of eLearning to further support the feedback process.

Induction

All our courses begin with a comprehensive development programme that will help you prepare for your studies and develop key academic and transferable skills. A key feature is a short residential team-building course, normally in the Peak District.

You will also have opportunities to meet members of the teaching team and other postgraduate students, receive detailed programme information, and gain valuable support and guidance from the library, careers service, international office and Student Support Services.

Course Description

The DBA is designed to improve business and managerial practice by developing the personal, intellectual and academic abilities of participants through a research-based project. It has a strong and committed focus on managerial and professional practice, and seeks to link the rigorous study of work-based problems and issues to personal and professional development. It thereby ensures the transfer of learning into organisational and managerial practice.

The Doctorate of Business Administration has the same academic standing as a PhD. It is similarly a research-based qualification; participants can therefore expect a challenging, stretching and demanding experience conducted in a stimulating atmosphere of intellectual and academic debate.

The DBA encourages participants to challenge currently assumed knowledge and understanding of management. We support individuals’ commitment to finding new, innovative and personal responses to their organisational and managerial roles.

Nottingham Business School’s DBA provides a supportive environment, encouraging networking between peers, academics and guest speakers.

Nottingham Business School’s DBA demands commitment, energy and hard work. In return it offers a stimulating and enjoyable development experience with the award of an increasingly valued and valuable qualification.

Course Description

As an MSc International Business single award student, you will have several study options, so you can shape your experience around your ambitions, interests and commitments.

Our standard master's involves rigorous core studies here at the Business School, followed by a term studying abroad at one of our partner institutions (ISCTE in Lisbon, Portugal; KEDGE in Marseille, France; ESC Clermont in France, or Brescia University in Italy). This is followed by a major project, at home or abroad.

International travel is a key element of this qualification, but we know some students may not be able to leave the UK for so long, so we also offer a stay-at-home route, involving more study here with us. All students are offered the chance to go on a two-week study tour, so it's hoped that stay-at-home students will take this shorter opportunity to gain international perspectives up close.

Work placement

If you are starting your course in September, you can choose to add a year's work placement, making your master's a two-year course. It's a great way to put your learning into practice and gain valuable real-world experience to boost your career.

We have extensive links with corporate partners who can offer placements, so we can help you find something perfect. If you undertake a placement, you must take up the Business Research Project in Semester Three.

Types of assessment will range from examinations to group presentations including essays, reports, financial analyses, literature reviews and research based projects.
