The 2-year MSc in Nursing (Adult) is open to applicants who have already completed an honours degree and have a minimum of 750 hours’ experience in a healthcare setting in the last year.

The curriculum for the MSc in Nursing is designed to meet the needs of the changing demography in the wider population and the emerging health needs. A range of teaching and learning strategies are implemented to engage the learner including simulation, practice learning, lectures, skills rehearsals, and online digital learning resources.

Practice based learning is central to the students’ development, and Nursing (Adult) students will spend 40 weeks of their course on placement. Here they will gain experience in a diverse range of nursing settings, including community, nursing homes, and hospitals.

The Nursing (Adult) programme has been designed to develop the students’ personal and professional attributes, knowledge and skills required of a newly registered nurse.

The Nursing (Adult) course does not follow the usual University term times. The academic year starts in early September and ends late the following August. 

50% of the teaching for Nursing students will take place in healthcare placements, and the other 50% will be taught at university.

The MSc Nursing (Adult) is made up of five modules:

Module 1 – Introduction to Nursing

Module 2 - Living with Long-term and Chronic Conditions

Year 2

Module 3 – Managing Complex Care in Deteriorating Situations

Assessments will enable Nursing (Adult) students to develop creative, critical thinking and decision-making skills. Students will learn how to deal with real-life situations in the form of Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE), poster presentations and will even write a journal article ready for publication.

There are no tuition fees to pay for the MSc Nursing (Adult) for UK / EU students.

To be eligible for WEDS funding international students must have residency for 3 years (working and living) in the United Kingdom. EU area students can also apply. Standard fees apply for international students.

Careers in Nursing

Job prospects are very good for Swansea University Adult Nursing students, 99% are employed in graduate level jobs within six months of graduating.

The School Direct Tuition Fee route is a new path into teaching at both primary and secondary levels. Participating schools, or clusters of schools that join together, are allocated a set number of student-teacher places. Trainees pay a course fee on this route and will join other student teachers on one of the established PGCE courses at UCL Institute of Education (IOE), whilst undertaking their teaching experience in the host school or cluster.

About this programme

This programme consists of university-based sessions, school-based sessions and teaching placements. The university-based sessions will include the study of the geography curriculum, lesson planning, effective teaching, classroom management and approaches to assessment.

The university based element of the course is closely linked to the school based elements of the course and some of the professional studies elements will be delivered in school. There are a small number of lectures but most university-based work is undertaken in a subject specialist group of 20-25 students.

Students undertake two Master’s-level (level 7) modules of 30 credits each, totaling 60 credits. These can be carried forward onto full Master’s programmes at the IOE.

The Secondary PGCE consists of three core modules: two Master’s-level modules, which are assessed through written assignments, and the Professional Practice module, which is assessed by the observation of practical teaching in placement schools.

Completion of the Professional Practice module and the two level 7 (Master’s level) modules (60 credits) will result in the award of a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE). Completion of the Professional Practice module and one or two level 6 (undergraduate/Bachelor’s level) modules, will lead to the Professional Graduate Certificate of Education (PgCE).

The School Direct (Tuition Fee) PGCE full-time route is delivered via keynote lectures, subject lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials and directed study days at the Institute of Education as well as time spent in placement schools or colleges. Assessment is by practical teaching, assignments, portfolio tasks and, for some subjects, practical projects. Students will also record their progress in a Career Entry and Development Profile statement. This will form part of a portfolio that links into the induction year (the first year of teaching) and a student's continuing professional development.

About this programme

This programme has been designed to enable all candidates to demonstrate that they have met the standards across Key Stages 3 and 4 (11–16 age range).

Students will acquire a critical understanding of current debates and issues relating to science education, and we will guide and support them in developing their subject knowledge. We expect students to engage with reading and research in science education and to regularly reflect upon their own progress.

This programme will cover health and safety, management of teaching and learning in laboratories and outdoors, the use of ICT, facilitating small group discussion, meeting pupils' special needs, and assessment. Our facilities include a suite of laboratories and a micro-computing laboratory.

Students undertake two Master’s-level (level 7) modules of 30 credits each, totaling 60 credits. These can be carried forward onto full Master’s programmes at the IOE.

The Secondary PGCE consists of three core modules: two Master’s-level modules, which are assessed through written assignments, and the Professional Practice module, which is assessed by the observation of practical teaching in placement schools.

Completion of the Professional Practice module and the two level 7 (Master’s level) modules (60 credits) will result in the award of a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE). Completion of the Professional Practice module and one or two level 6 (undergraduate/Bachelor’s level) modules, will lead to the Professional Graduate Certificate of Education (PgCE).

Placement

Student Teachers undertake at least two placements (totaling 120 days) at a school or college, during which time their teaching practice will be supported by a school subject tutor and mentor. The Professional Practice module is assessed through these placements, associated tasks and a portfolio.

Key Stage 3: Science (including elements of physics, chemistry and biology) 

Key Stage 4: Science (all areas) and/or chemistry (depending on school placement) 

Key Stage 5: AS/A2 level chemistry

Teaching and learning

The School Direct (Tuition Fee) PGCE is delivered via keynote lectures, subject lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials and directed study days at the Institute of Education as well as time spent in placement schools or colleges. Assessment is by practical teaching, assignments, portfolio tasks and, for some subjects, practical projects. Students will also record their progress in a Career Entry and Development Profile statement. This will form part of a portfolio that links into the induction year (the first year of teaching) and a student's continuing professional development.

Some are working as lecturers in science education, while others have jobs as school leaders, heads of year and advanced skills teachers. Graduates of the Secondary PGCE programme are highly employable and sought after by schools and colleges in London and beyond. Almost all graduates secure their first teaching post by the time they finish the PGCE programme. Graduates of the programme also have great career prospects, with many becoming Head of Department or a Head of Year within 2-5 years, often acting, in their schools, as mentors to new PGCE student teachers. Many of our graduates become senior teachers (such as Assistant Headteachers or Head of a Faculty) in 5-8 years of graduating, and some are now Headteachers. Curriculum for Integrated Climate System Sciences

Your curriculum for the two-year ICSS master`s program is subdivided into four semesters with mandatory courses, elective courses for specialization and the preparation of your master’s thesis. The curriculum starts from a firm basis in climate physics (and in particular climate modeling) but adds the equally important aspects of global and regional biogeochemical cycling and puts all this into a broader context, including economic as well as societal implications. SICSS courses comprise a wide range of atmospheric, hydrospheric, cryospheric, pedospheric and biospheric sciences, as well as introductions and specializations into economics, social geography, media sciences and conflict research to shed light on climate system science from different perspectives.

You will start your studies with mandatory courses in research skills, as well as natural and social science foundation courses in climate system sciences.

The main goal of the second semester is to broaden your knowledge across the climate science disciplines. You will choose courses from at least two of the three possible program tracks.

The third semester features the Climate Study Project, which includes an integrated seminar and a scientific writing course to prepare you for the master thesis. You will find your personal supervisor and work closely together with a CliSAP research group.

The fourth and final semester is reserved for the master’s thesis.

Speech and language therapists work in hospital wards and outpatient departments, mainstream and special schools, day centres and clients' homes, and courtrooms, prisons and young offenders' institutions. Practice placements are organised to give experience of a number of these settings.

NHH is a government funded university and therefore charges no application or tuition fees. As a student at NHH, the only fee you are required to pay is a small semester registration fee to the Student Welfare Organization in Bergen (SiB), allowing you to benefit from their services. The amount is currently approximately NOK 800 per semester. Some applicants are obliged to document financial ability in order to be granted a residence permit to study in Norway (citizens outside the EU/EEA area and Switzerland).

Building and managing strong brands is key to gaining competitive advantage and long-term profitability for products, services, companies and organisations. The Marketing and Brand Management programme provides students with in-depth and research-based knowledge on marketing, consumer behaviour, innovation and brand management.
Understanding consumer and competitor behaviour is essential to every business and organisation. Customer and competitor insights provide the basis for developing sound strategies as well as optimal market positioning and effective marketing tactics. The programme integrates theory and practical applications from strategy and marketing to assist students in developing strong brands and making future market decisions.

Central questions raised are:
How to adapt products, communication and distribution systems to customer needs - and behaviour?
How to position a brand effectively in a competitive market?

SPECIALIST AREAS

Examples of themes within the programme:
Brand Management: focuses on how to build and manage strong brands.
Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Innovation: focuses on marketing challenges related to entrepreneurship and product/service innovation.
Marketing research for B2B and B2C markets: focuses on marketing research for both B2B and B2C markets.

Research Distinction
In addition, we offer methodological courses at advanced level for students who want to elaborate their analytical skills. The advanced courses will qualify for a master's with "Research Distinction". Students who are planning to pursue a PhD are encouraged to select at least two advanced courses.

Strategy and Management focuses on how managers and employees can develop businesses to become efficient and competitive whilst maintaining corporate social responsibility. How can firms create value and develop a competitive advantage? How can business leaders through their employees carry out necessary strategic modifications? What is good management and what fosters productive employees?

The study of strategy is fundamentally about understanding why some businesses succeed while others do not. Within this framework, the Strategy and Management programme focuses on two sets of fundamental questions that illuminate this overarching theme in different ways:
What creates differences in performance between businesses and industries and why do such differences persist over time, and how can firms use this knowledge to create effective strategies?
How can firms—through leading and developing individuals, groups, and organisations—implement strategies or carry out complex change processes?

SPECIALIST AREAS

The Strategy and Management programme comprises two different areas of expertise/themes, "Strategic Analysis" and "Organisation and Leadership".

The Strategic Analysis theme examines theories, mechanisms, and practical frameworks that can be used to understand why differences in performance both between and within markets can arise, how and why such differences can persist over time, and how this affects strategic decisions in companies.

The Organisation and Leadership theme examines the business itself, with a focus on the challenges business leaders meet when they plan to implement or deploy strategies, how one should lead and develop the business’s human resources, and how one can carry out complex organisational changes.
