The two-year full-time study programme (120 ECTS) studies multilingualism and multiculturalism and the issues raised by these themes in a society characterised by increased mobility, migration and diversity.

The programme focuses on linguistic and cultural diversity issues in the fields of education, communication and in different institutional and professional contexts.

In courses and seminars, multilingualism is an integral part of the forms of exchange between the students. In the philosophy of the programme, multilingualism is considered to be of added value in the building of knowledge.

Who It’s For

The MA in Intercultural and International Communication program is for strategic and independent-thinking communication managers looking to improve their ability to assist organizations respond to the rapidly changing global environment, as well as individuals with an arts or science undergraduate degree who want to pursue or advance their career in professional communication in the intercultural or international sphere. In this unit you will:
- develop an enhanced understanding of the link between research and practice

- be equipped with research skills relevant to research in applied settings and implementation of research findings in the practice of psychologists

This unit will introduce you to the social psychology of multicultural existence and familiarise you with existing theories and current research on this topic. You will be trained to apply your knowledge to the analysis of real-life examples of multicultural existence.

- Adjustment and Well-Being
This course will introduce you to theory, empirical findings, and applications regarding adjustment and well-being (happiness and self-fulfillment).

- Advanced Techniques in Social and Behavioural Research
You will explore many of the key research techniques that are used in social, health, and developmental research. You will develop an advanced understanding of current techniques within these areas and how to employ these techniques, and be able to evaluate and critique them.

- Social Research Project
You will be provided with the possibility to carry out an original piece of research on a topic of your interest within the broad area of applied and social psychology. You will be given the necessary support during the conception, conduct and writing up of your research

- Topics in Psychological Science
The aim of the unit is to stimulate an interest in topical research findings from a wide range of research areas relevant to psychology. You will develop the skills of presentation, evaluation, interpretation and discussion of original research findings.

- Statistics for Research
You will be provided with an overview and basic understanding of advanced statistical methods used in psychology and neuroscience research, including hands-on experience applying these methods to specific problems. The unit will provide a methodological foundation if you wish to pursue research in disciplines allied to the MSc course.

On completion of the course graduates will have:
- an advanced knowledge of social psychology and its application
- strong research skills in social and applied psychology
- experience in transferable skills that are highly sought after in the job market, such as oral presentations, oral and written communication, and project planning.

Our Bilingualism in Education programme is aimed at teachers and educational practitioners working with multilingual children and young people in multicultural schools. You will study the programme on a part-time distance learning basis.

Delivered in partnership with The Northern Association of Support Services for Equality and Achievement (NASSEA), the programme will help you to work more effectively in your role with children and young people learning English as an additional or second language. 

The programme aims to:

  • Increase knowledge and understanding of the language and learning needs of bilingual learners who are learning English as an additional language
  • Increase knowledge and practices of working across a diversity of cultures
  • Improve classroom practice in planning, implementing and evaluating the curriculum, taking into account the needs of bilingual learners
  • Enable students to develop more effective practices with bilingual learners with alleged special educational needs
  • Enable students to participate in, and evaluate interpersonal intervention with bilingual children with language learning and learning needs

Learning and teaching

Each student will have a personal tutor in a regional tutor group, which meets on a regular basis. Study is supported through study packs, tutorial groups, telephone and email contact which allows students to learn with each other. There is a university based programme launch day in September.


The MEd/Postgraduate Diploma/Postgraduate Certificate in Bilingualism in Education is ideal for graduates who wish to increase their knowledge and understanding of the language and learning needs of bilingual learners who are learning English as an additional language. Upon completion of this course, you will have experience in planning, implementing and evaluating the curriculum across a diversity of cultures. 

There is the opportunity to work towards a further professional qualification in the field of Education both within schools and in other settings, including progression to a PhD or EdD. The excellent careers advice provided by personal tutors has encouraged many of our graduates to successfully apply for leadership roles working with multilingual children and young people in multicultural schools. Economic globalisation and rapid developments in ICT mean that many organisations now operate on an international scale, or at the very least interact with consumers, clients and/or partner organisations in other countries. Even ‘local’ companies and organisations may have a multicultural workforce, or offer their services or products abroad. As a result, communication has become increasingly international and intercultural.

Organisations seek to create communication strategies that support their overall strategy and objectives. In doing so, they need to interact with stakeholders who may have a variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds. These stakeholders may include employees, customers, suppliers, financial backers or even local governments. In the Master’s specialisation in International Business Communication, you’ll learn about the all factors, including cultural and linguistic ones, that play a role in communication and need to be taken into account in order to create effective communication strategies.

In your future career as a business executive or communication specialist, you’ll need to be able to assess the quality, reliability and validity of the research that informs your practical decisions ‘on the job’. Why study International Business Communication at Radboud University?

- This is one of very few programmes in Europe (and the only programme in the Netherlands) that also focuses on the cultural and linguistic dimensions of international business communication.

- The specialisation deals with theory and insights that are relevant to achieving effective communication in various organisational contexts; from interpersonal communication in a meeting with (multicultural) colleagues, to marketing communication aimed at reaching international target audiences.

- Students do a (group) internship in which they work towards solving a particular communication issue or answering a specific communication question for a company or organisation. This provides hands-on experience in a relevant organisational setting.

- This specialisation attracts students from different countries and because admission to the programme is selective (max. 50 students per year), you’ll be part of a small group of highly motivated Dutch and international students. With a Master’s specialisation in International Business Communication, you could pursue a career in government, semi-government, business or academia. Our approach to this field

Corporate communication involves orchestrating internal and external communication instruments to support an organisation’s core activities and to manage its relationship with different types of stakeholders. Organisations that operate internationally need to take different cultures and language backgrounds into account when designing their communication. Culture and language(s) may affect international communication at three levels:

- The organisational level: e.g. when a company communicates about its Corporate Social Responsibility policy

What is Business Development?


Students graduating from the MSc Business Development also receive a certificate conferring them the title of Manager International. This title, recognized by the Commission Nationale de la Certification Professionnelle - an agency belonging to the French Ministry of Labor - attests to the successful acquisition of a core of international management skills and knowledge necessary for future roles as managers in an international context. The Manager International label is registered on the Répertoire National des Certifications Professionnelles at Level 1, the highest level for such certification.

At the end of the classroom portion of the program, each student will be required to complete a thesis, known as the Final Management Project. This work is approximately 20,000 words in length and is completed under the guidance of a GGSB tutor.

To successfully complete the Final Management Project, you are required to address a particular research question or knowledge gap in the field of your study.

This should be business oriented and coherent with your program’s objectives. You may choose to write your Final Management Project on a topic grounded in your internship experience.

During this program, participants will have the opportunity to become real-life business developers by exploring a Live Business Case provided by companies working in partnerships with the MSc Business Development program. The work students do on the Live Business Case is closely linked to the International Study Residency. Students will work in groups, delving deeply into their cases during the seven months from October to June under the supervision of a GGSB coach.


The Live Business Cases are launched by a briefing given by the company.

The Live Business Case will cover:

- Looking at business development and management issues from an integrated, holistic perspective,
- Provide students with a final opportunity to apply learning from the material, courses and lectures that they have studied.

At the conclusion of the Live Business Case, students will be able to:

- Build a company analysis
- Select and apply a methodology, and make useful and efficient recommendations
- Understand the Business Development process
- Provide critical analysis
- Make strategic decisions
- Work in small multicultural groups under time constraints
- Produce compelling written and oral presentations
- Demonstrate communication, negotiation and leadership skills

At the end of 7 months of the Live Business Case, each group will produce a written report and make an oral presentation to the Jury (company tutor, school tutor and program director) and the other groups from the program.

International Residency Trip: An Amazing Opportunity!

As part of the MSc Business Development program, students have the opportunity to visit one emerging economy each year (Brazil, Russia, China, India). The goal is to create an integrated learning experience for all participants.

The International Residency Trip combines academic lectures, corporate visits, and cultural activities. The students gain extensive knowledge of global business practices to prepare them as business developers that consistently perform across cultures and compete in a global market. The International Residency Trip is linked with the Live Business Case and students will have the amazing opportunity to visit important companies.

Foreign language skills are essential in business today and the program is taught in English but provides the possibility to learn a foreign language at the same time.
No prior knowledge of French is required to attend the program. Non-French speakers may study French, native and fluent French speakers will have the possibility to choose from Spanish or Chinese. The language component is not compulsory.


This course/ work shop is an introduction to all group assignments to be carried out all through the year. In order to help you be efficient when working in small groups, you need to know not only your personal strengths and improvement points but also those of your class.

By discovering them during this course, you'll be able to imagine together how to leverage the strengths of your class and how to manage the improvement points. You have to manage the classroom as a company so we will appoint the different representatives in charge of taking care of the main aspects of the construction of the class as a performing team: event manager, class representative, time keeper, project leader, MSC community leader, Alumni communication and coordination manager. These representatives and their team will draft their action plan for the coming year.

The course enables students to engage with current issues in women’s health, contributes to their professional development, enhances knowledge, and study with health professionals from other institutions in a multicultural environment.

The course has been developed in response to a number of reports and industry organisations, such as: Women’s Health and Equality Consortium; High Quality Women’s Health Care: A proposal for change (Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, 2011); Royal College of General Practitioners Curriculum (2010), which identified the importance for health professionals to work together to ensure that the experiences and needs of women within a multicultural context are reflected in care provision.

The ICE Programme offers courses grounded in the latest academic research, which enables students to apply their theoretical grasp to practical situations in a multicultural and internationally oriented working life.

The thematic module on Religion, Conflict and Dialogue prepares students for critical analyses of the role of religion in conflicts in local, national and global contexts. Students will also develop expertise in conflict resolution and reconciliation projects involving religious issues, and gain an understanding of the requirements of such work.

The thematic module on Tradition, Knowledge and Change offers an opportunity to obtain knowledge of epistemological differences in a decolonising perspective. Student’s expertise will extend to indigenous peoples’ philosophies and concepts, with new insights into knowledge-making, power relations and diverse interactions in the production of tradition.

The thematic module of Communication and Media focuses on practical intercultural communication situations and processes, as well as on cultural beliefs and values present and produced in communication and social relationships. Students will also learn to analyse relationships between culture, media and power both in traditional mass media and present-day Internet and social media.

The thematic module on Transnational and International examines strengthened interconnectivity and relations between people transcending the borders. Particular attention is given to transnational actors and activities which impact on culture and politics across traditional borders. These include non-governmental organisations, multinational corporations, religious actors, ethnic actors, terrorism, migration, hybrid identities and diasporas. You will also learn more about the culture and practice of diplomatic relations.

Students can specialise in different local, national and supranational cultures in, for example, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, or North America. Teaching and learning

The innovative learning experience on this course is very much student-centred and interactive. Field trips

This programme provides you with a broad understanding of the theories and practices of dance movement therapy necessary for safe and effective clinical work, and enables you to practise as a dance movement therapist.

This programme is accredited by the Association for Dance Movement Psychotherapy.

Your learning will be underpinned by the principles and practices of psychodynamic psychotherapy within the social, political and multicultural context of mental health care and educational settings. Study is informed by contemporary dance practice, Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) and somatic bodywork.

Through theoretical studies, movement observation studies, dance practice workshops, clinical work and experiential learning, you integrate cognitive understanding and practical experience with a developing awareness of self and other.

The nature of the therapeutic relationship is explored in depth through movement and dance and you have the opportunity to put your learning into practice through at least 90 days of supervised placements. This gives you the opportunity to relate your practical experience to your theoretical studies.

You'll be encouraged to develop your own dance/movement practice and to situate your work in relation to your development as a therapist, to contemporary dance and movement practice. You're required to be in personal therapy throughout the programme.

On graduation you are eligible to become a registered professional member of the Association for Dance Movement Psychotherapy (ADMP UK).

Course detail

Some of the core elements of the program are studying a term abroad at one of the exclusive partner schools, collecting work experience during an international internship and completing a business project as well as skills development workshops, many of which are co-designed by our experienced CEMS Corporate Partners. This enables our culturally diverse students to benefit from an international education providing them with the opportunity to have privileged access to the recruitment pool of highly renowned companies and to contribute to and benefit from the worldwide CEMS network.


The Master in International Management/CEMS combines two degrees – WU’s Master in International Management (MSc) and the Master in International Management (CEMS MIM) offered by The Global Alliance in Management Education (CEMS) – into one 24 month program.

Individual organisation of the programme is possible, with a mixture of course modules and seminar alongside electives.

Career prospects

Graduates of the CEMS/MIM program are qualified to form future generations of global business leaders and to enter a multilingual, multicultural and interconnected business world. The program’s broad, generalistic approach to management uniquely prepares its graduates for a wide variety of positions, e.g. in consulting, strategy, marketing, finance or human resources, and in particular for positions requiring an integrated, holistic knowledge of various business domains.
