USF's M.A. degree in International & Multicultural Education (IME) Program is dedicated to understanding formal and informal education within its sociocultural, linguistic, and political contexts around the world.
Based on principles of equity, social justice, and human rights, the program critically addresses the realities of education within and beyond the borders of public schooling in the United States and around the world.
The MA in International and Multicultural Education is rooted in critical social theory and the practice of critical pedagogy. This program provides a dynamic learning community where students benefit from rigorous scholarship and experience both in the classroom and in the community. We believe that our program equips students with the knowledge and strategies they need to be highly effective social justice teachers, leaders, and practitioners across various learning contexts in the U.S. and abroad.

The Bilingualism in Education is a part-time distance learning programme, aimed at teachers and educational practitioners working with multilingual children and young people in multicultural schools. Our Bilingualism in Education programme is aimed at teachers and educational practitioners working with multilingual children and young people in multicultural schools. You will study the programme on a part-time distance learning basis.
Delivered in partnership with The Northern Association of Support Services for Equality and Achievement (NASSEA), the programme will help you to work more effectively in your role with children and young people learning English as an additional or second language.

The MEd/Postgraduate Diploma/Postgraduate Certificate in Bilingualism in Education is ideal for graduates who wish to increase their knowledge and understanding of the language and learning needs of bilingual learners who are learning English as an additional language. Upon completion of this course, you will have experience in planning, implementing and evaluating the curriculum across a diversity of cultures.
There is the opportunity to work towards a further professional qualification in the field of Education both within schools and in other settings, including progression to a PhD or EdD. The excellent careers advice provided by personal tutors has encouraged many of our graduates to successfully apply for leadership roles working with multilingual children and young people in multicultural schools. These include: teachers, education advisors, special educational needs coordinators and head teachers at international schools and managers of community and charitable organisations.
This course involves combining communication studies, applied linguistics, international management and intercultural communication.
Economic globalisation and rapid developments in ICT mean that many organisations now operate on an international scale, or at the very least interact with consumers, clients and/or partner organisations in other countries. Even ‘local’ companies and organisations may have a multicultural workforce, or offer their services or products abroad. As a result, communication has become increasingly international and intercultural.
Organisations seek to create communication strategies that support their overall strategy and objectives. In doing so, they need to interact with stakeholders who may have a variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds. These stakeholders may include employees, customers, suppliers, financial backers or even local governments. In the Master’s specialisation in International Business Communication, you’ll learn about the all factors, including cultural and linguistic ones, that play a role in communication and need to be taken into account in order to create effective communication strategies.
In your future career as a business executive or communication specialist, you’ll need to be able to assess the quality, reliability and validity of the research that informs your practical decisions ‘on the job’. In other words, you’ll need to be able to judge whether existing research – as well as your own – complies with the ground rules of academic rigor. The programme therefore places emphasis not only on training your research skills but also on developing your awareness of what ‘good research’ entails.

- This is one of very few programmes in Europe (and the only programme in the Netherlands) that also focuses on the cultural and linguistic dimensions of international business communication.
- The specialisation deals with theory and insights that are relevant to achieving effective communication in various organisational contexts; from interpersonal communication in a meeting with (multicultural) colleagues, to marketing communication aimed at reaching international target audiences.
- Students do a (group) internship in which they work towards solving a particular communication issue or answering a specific communication question for a company or organisation. This provides hands-on experience in a relevant organisational setting.
- This specialisation attracts students from different countries and because admission to the programme is selective (max. 50 students per year), you’ll be part of a small group of highly motivated Dutch and international students. This means that to a certain extent, your learning environment is international as well.
- Guest speakers are regularly invited to share their knowledge about current developments in business, management and organisational communication.
- Although the main focus is on international communication in larger, multinational companies, graduates of this programme will be able to apply what they’ve learned in a variety of organisations – for profit, non-profit or governmental institutes.
Languages form the heart of communication and that is why this Master’s specialisation is taught within Radboud University’s Faculty of Arts. The programme places a strong focus on the role that languages play in effective corporate communication. Of course, the languages used are not the only factor to consider in a multicultural environment - which is why you will be encouraged to also consider communication issues and strategy from an international management perspective.
In short, you’ll explore the impact of globalisation on business communication, the role of linguistic and cultural diversity in corporate communication, and the human and operational consequences of organisations’ language policy or strategies. In doing so, you’ll also come to understand how such issues can shape and affect an organisation’s performance.
With a Master’s specialisation in International Business Communication, you could pursue a career in government, semi-government, business or academia. For example, our graduates work as internal or external communication managers or press spokespeople in companies, government departments, health institutions or non-profit organisations. Many work in marketing communications at multinational companies, as communication trainers for consultancies, as social media managers or as PR consultants.

Job openings for our graduates can cover a wide range of communication functions, organisational types and (business) sectors. This is because organisations have increasingly come to realise that effective communication is essential to all organisational functions (e.g. marketing, PR, HRM, R&D, finance), and have made a real effort over the past decades to professionalise communications, making (international) business communication an increasingly important discipline.
Corporate communication involves orchestrating internal and external communication instruments to support an organisation’s core activities and to manage its relationship with different types of stakeholders. Due to the internationalisation of markets and businesses, corporate communication has gone global in recent years. Organisations that operate internationally need to take different cultures and language backgrounds into account when designing their communication. Culture and language(s) may affect international communication at three levels:
- The management level: e.g. when CEOs communicate with internal or external audiences
- The organisational level: e.g. when a company communicates about its Corporate Social Responsibility policy
- The marketing level: e.g. when products or services are promoted to an international audience in (corporate) advertising.

Our MSc is for health professionals working locally and nationally, and aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of health-related issues affecting women in contemporary society. This interdisciplinary course will deliver modules addressing the health needs of women across the life span. The range of modules reflects contemporary issues facing women within a multicultural context.
This is responding to individuals working towards the enhancement of women’s health. It is anticipated the course will be represented by students from health, medicine and social care professions working in the public and private sectors, who will be engaging with continuing professional development (CPD) while seeking to enhance their knowledge of the complexities of participating in the delivery and the understanding of women’s health.
Although this is an advanced course, it will facilitate a bespoke approach to learning, allowing you to critically consider your own practice. This course will also be multi- and interdisciplinary, reflecting the services provided by a range of health and social care providers.

Our course will respond to doctors and allied health professionals engaging in CPD. The inclusivity of modules ensures that students from across a wide spectrum of practice can engage with this course.
The course will enable you to choose from a range of modules to ensure a bespoke approach to your learning, enabling you to critically consider your own practice in relation to a changing multicultural society. The course will be delivered within a multicultural context by research-active academic staff, supplemented by clinicians working in the area of women’s health.
This course will respond to colleagues seeking to develop their understanding, and find solutions to, the specific challenges of enhancing women’s health.

Modules will run as three-day blocks and include 400 hours of learning activity, with at least 20 hours’ contact time.

When studying in the Master’s Programme in Intercultural Encounters (ICE), you will acquire critical knowledge and skills to examine complex social and cultural phenomena as applied to your thematic specialisation. You will gain a profound understanding on how micro- or macro-level phenomena interact in local, international, multicultural and transnational contexts. You will learn to analyse why and how conflicts arise for various cultural, political and religious reasons, and you will gain insights into the possibilities of dialogue in conflict resolution. In addition, you will learn to communicate and evaluate information on intercultural encounters in different academic, professional and societal contexts.
Upon completing the Master’s programme, you will be able to pursue a national and international career. You will be able to act and grow in multidisciplinary and multicultural groups, and deal with issues of intercultural interaction, diversity, internationalisation, cultural management, media and power.

The Master’s Programme in Intercultural Encounters offers a multidisciplinary approach to intercultural issues, and aims to foster in the students an appreciation of the many facets of intercultural contact. The teaching in the programme supports this by making use of a range of pedagogical approaches to interculturalism.
The ICE Programme offers courses grounded in the latest academic research, which enables students to apply their theoretical grasp to practical situations in a multicultural and internationally oriented working life.
The thematic module on Religion, Conflict and Dialogue prepares students for critical analyses of the role of religion in conflicts in local, national and global contexts. Students will also develop expertise in conflict resolution and reconciliation projects involving religious issues, and gain an understanding of the requirements of such work.
The thematic module on Tradition, Knowledge and Change offers an opportunity to obtain knowledge of epistemological differences in a decolonising perspective. Student’s expertise will extend to indigenous peoples’ philosophies and concepts, with new insights into knowledge-making, power relations and diverse interactions in the production of tradition.
The thematic module of Communication and Media focuses on practical intercultural communication situations and processes, as well as on cultural beliefs and values present and produced in communication and social relationships. Students will also learn to analyse relationships between culture, media and power both in traditional mass media and present-day Internet and social media.
The thematic module on Transnational and International examines strengthened interconnectivity and relations between people transcending the borders. Particular attention is given to transnational actors and activities which impact on culture and politics across traditional borders. These include non-governmental organisations, multinational corporations, religious actors, ethnic actors, terrorism, migration, hybrid identities and diasporas. You will also learn more about the culture and practice of diplomatic relations.
Students can specialise in different local, national and supranational cultures in, for example, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, or North America. Also, the perspectives of the study of religions, theology, communication and indigenous studies provide students with the regional, cultural, and socio-political knowledge, which will help create a theoretical framework for understanding the dynamics of intercultural encounters. Furthermore, a range of disciplines at the University of Helsinki supports the study of the ICE thematic modules, such as media, social psychology, and area and cultural studies.
The course focuses on managing international organisations in a rapidly changing, global, business environment. It is for those who have previously studied a business-related subject and/or have business work experience.
We equip you with the necessary skills to work at a managerial level in an international organisation and to work effectively in more than one country. You have the opportunity to develop cultural intelligence and work in multicultural teams. This course has a diverse mix of cultures with students from China, Russia, Indian subcontinent, Africa, SE Asia and the EU.

The innovative learning experience on this course is very much student-centred and interactive. Full-time mode involves approximately 15 hours of staff contact time per week. In addition there is a significant amount of independent and group study time. This programme provides you with a broad understanding of the theories and practices of dance movement therapy necessary for safe and effective clinical work, and enables you to practise as a dance movement therapist.
This programme is accredited by the Association for Dance Movement Psychotherapy.
Your learning will be underpinned by the principles and practices of psychodynamic psychotherapy within the social, political and multicultural context of mental health care and educational settings. Study is informed by contemporary dance practice, Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) and somatic bodywork.
Through theoretical studies, movement observation studies, dance practice workshops, clinical work and experiential learning, you integrate cognitive understanding and practical experience with a developing awareness of self and other.
The nature of the therapeutic relationship is explored in depth through movement and dance and you have the opportunity to put your learning into practice through at least 90 days of supervised placements. This gives you the opportunity to relate your practical experience to your theoretical studies.
You'll be encouraged to develop your own dance/movement practice and to situate your work in relation to your development as a therapist, to contemporary dance and movement practice. You're required to be in personal therapy throughout the programme.
On graduation you are eligible to become a registered professional member of the Association for Dance Movement Psychotherapy (ADMP UK).
The MA in Dance Movement Psychotherapy programme is made up of 240 credits and provides you with a broad understanding of the theories and practices of Dance Movement Psychotherapy necessary for safe and effective clinical work as a Dance Movement Psychotherapist.
It aims to enhance your self-knowledge and interpersonal relationships and to promote your psychodynamic understanding of individuals, groups and society; working with questions of difference, equality and diversity.
Your learning is underpinned by the principles and practices of psychodynamic psychotherapy within the social, political and multicultural context of mental health care and educational settings, and informed by contemporary dance practice and Laban Movement Analysis (LMA).
