Transfer of Graduate Credit for MSN:

Acceptable graduate credit of up to twelve credit hours, earned in a regionally accredited institution in which the student was enrolled in that institution’s graduate school, may be transferred and applied to the requirements for a master’s degree if approved by the CCN and Graduate School.

Consideration of credit does not guarantee transfer. Evaluation of credit for transfer will not be made until after the student has enrolled in the Graduate School of The University of Alabama.

Admission Requirements for MSN:

Admission requirements are consistent with those of the Graduate School. Applicants for the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) will be considered on a competitive basis.

- Nurses who are interested in the Case Management Program, NP Concentration, and CNL Program are encouraged to contact the Capstone College of Nursing (CCN) Graduate Recruitment and Retention Liaison. Currently only residents of Alabama and Mississippi are eligible for the Nurse Practitioner Concentration.

Note: Currently, only baccalaureate prepared registered nurses who are residents of Alabama and Mississippi are eligible for admission to the NP concentration. There is no post-master’s certificate option. Please check this site in the future for changes in the residency requirement.

Application Process for MSN:

Enrollment into the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program is available for fall semester each year. Your completed application must be received by the April 1st deadline.

MSN Application Process

1. Begin your graduate application at the Graduate School’s Application Center.

2. Request transcripts following the Graduate School’s transcript instructions.

3. Submit supporting documents. Within 48 hours of submitting the initial part of your application, you will receive an e-mail with your Campus-Wide Identification (CWID) number. It is very important that you safeguard this number. Once you have received this e-mail, you will need to submit the following documents through Manage Supporting Documents.

- Statement of purpose
- Resume or curriculum vitae
- Contact information for two references – The references should be professionals who can provide insight regarding your potential for success in the doctoral program. The Graduate School will contact these references via e-mail.
- Copy of active RN license from every state in which you are licensed. Note: Licensure must be maintained throughout the program.

Additionally, we may require the following:

- Official MAT or GRE score – If your grade point average (GPA) is lower than a 3.0, based on a 4.0 sytem, either overall or in your last 60 hours, an acceptable Miller Analogies Test (MAT) or Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or must be submitted by the testing service to the Graduate School, Box 870118, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487. Test scores may not be older than 5 years of the application date. Use school code 1012 for MAT and 1830 for GRE.

- English proficiency exam score – Whether an international or a permanent resident, if your first language is not English, you must submit an official score report from one of the following proficiency examinations: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or Pearson Test of English (PTE).

Upon admission, you will receive written notification of admission from the Dean of the Graduate School. You will also receive a letter from the Assistant Dean of Graduate Programs at CCN outlining requirements for entry into the MSN program.

A hold will be placed on your student record until all documents have been received. Master of Public Health

The M.P.H. Program is a two-year non-thesis program. It will normally be completed in three academic terms and one term devoted to a practicum.

The M.P.H. program is available in two formats:
- Traditional classroom-based curriculum: on-campus classes scheduled on a Monday to Friday timetable.
- Distributed learning format: each course consists of three full days on campus, one day per month. An additional 15 hours of curriculum is online for each course. Full day classes will be scheduled Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Courses will be scheduled so that classes for four separate courses can take place over three extended weekends (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday) in a term.

Master of Science in Nursing

The M.S.N. program is designed to prepare graduates to function as leaders in a range of roles such as education, advanced practice, policy implementation, health care management, and nursing knowledge development.

Admission Requirements

Students wishing to pursue the dual M.P.H./M.S.N. degrees program must meet the admission requirements for and be accepted by both the M.P.H. and M.S.N. programs.

Students already admitted to one or the other program may apply to the dual degrees program option during their first year of enrolment. Students wishing to transfer to the program from another UBC program must meet admission requirements and be accepted by both the M.P.H. and M.S.N. programs.

Program Requirements

The two master’s degrees, M.P.H. and M.S.N., are awarded on the completion of 60 credits of work approved by the Directors. Students must complete a total of 60 credits. Of these, at least 30 must be SPPH, including a 6 credit practicum and 30 must be NURS, including a 6 credit thesis.

The M.P.H. and M.S.N. will be conferred at the completion of the dual program after all requirements for both degrees have been met. Students who choose to receive either the M.P.H. or the M.S.N. prior to completion of the dual degrees program may apply for one of the degrees provided all requirements for that degree have been satisfied. Students selecting this option must withdraw from the dual degrees program

Blended Internet delivery

Blended Internet delivery combines the rich faculty/student interaction that is the hallmark of an MSOE education with the flexibility of online learning. The amount of time students spend in class is reduced, while time spent on project-focused learning is enhanced.

MSOE’s blended classes meet fact-to-face during alternating weeks. Meetings occur during the evening on “even” numbered or “odd” numbered weeks each academic term. Online learning activities are scheduled during non-meeting weeks and are facilitated via MSOE’s Blackboard instructional platform. Digital lectures, interactive discussions, investigative case studies, computerized simulations and synchronous chats are examples of online learning experiences used by MSOE faculty.

Program Goals

Program goals are broad statements that describe the career and professional accomplishments that the academic program is preparing the graduates to achieve. Graduates of the MSN program will:

Who is it for?

This course is suitable for students from any degree background with an interest in current affairs. Students will have a keen interest in the media, specifically in digital journalism. Some experience of social media and/or data work can be useful for those wishing to specialise in these fields.

Objectives

This course has a particular emphasis on digital media, and prepares you to enter and/or further develop a career in online journalism in particular. The curriculum reflects the continuing development of digital journalism through more interactive content and formats that engage users as active participants.

Innovative modules focus on social media and audience development, data journalism and coding for journalists. Multimedia work is geared to online publication. Alongside this, you will also learn the essential journalistic skills of writing, reporting, newsgathering, interviewing and feature writing, plus law and ethics -- core elements of City’s renowned MA Journalism courses.

Academic facilities

You will gain practical skills in our digital newsrooms, with access to cameras, audio recorders and other equipment, with dedicated technical support. In 2014 we completed a £12m development project for our journalism facilities. Work placements are not formally assessed as part of the MA programme.

Teaching and learning

Our students have the option of taking part in a Teeline shorthand course alongside their studies. This costs £100 (refundable if you reach 100 words per minute) and runs across two terms.

Assessment

All MA Journalism courses at City are practical, hands-on courses designed for aspiring journalists. As a result, much of your coursework will be journalistic assignments that you produce to deadline, as you would in a real news organisation. Assessment is often through a portfolio of journalistic assignments of this kind.

As a postgraduate student in the Department of Chemistry at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, you will have the chance to study in programs that reflect the current, central, position of Chemistry and you will learn from diverse, innovative faculty at the forefront of their fields of research.

Our mission is to offer research and instructional opportunities in the emerging areas of Chemistry while maintaining a program rooted in the basics of the discipline. Postgraduate programs emphasize training in original research focusing on fundamental, interdisciplinary and applied areas. Complementing our formal degree programs is an active seminar program allowing students to meet prominent and international scientists who are pioneering the creation of new chemical knowledge.

The Department now has 19 full-time faculty members and about 90 postgraduate students, a favorable ratio allowing students to interact closely with academics. The research environment is an exciting one and we take pride in the high quality of our programs.

The MPhil program is a research-based degree consisting of approved coursework and an original research thesis. It is designed with flexibility in order that students may tailor course selections according to their needs and interests in the field of Chemistry.

Submission and successful defense of a thesis based on original research are required to obtain the degree.

Facilities

The Department is well equipped with modern laboratories and state-of-the-art instrumentation. Equipment includes two 400 MHz FT-NMR and two 300 MHz NMR spectrometers, one mass spectrometer equipped with a GC-TOF module and a MALDI Micro module, one triple-quadrupole MS/MS system, an ion-trap MSn system, X-ray diffractometers, a Bruker FT-IR / FT-Raman system, a UV-Vis fluorimeter, GC / MS, HPLC.

Relevant central University facilities include the Materials Characterization and Preparation Facility, the Nanoelectronics Fabrication Facility and Environmental Central Facility, all offering a wide range of advanced instruments.

Computer facilities for postgraduate students include molecular graphic / modeling, quantum mechanics and molecular dynamics computations.
