This technology based course is ideal for students who have a degree in Computer Science or a related field. Course Content

Master of Information Technology students will undertake a coherent programme of 180 credits approved by the programme manager and will follow one of two pathways.

Pathway 1

The first pathway is designed for students who want to undertake more course work and consists of four compulsory components:

- IT801 Managing ICT Projects and Systems
The student will develop knowledge and skills in managing ICT projects and systems. The student will also research into established frameworks that are relevant to current industry trends.
- IT802 Researching ICT Issues and Trends

It includes an understanding of system administration and security, distributed programming, contemporary software technologies and a critical understanding of enterprise architectures, frameworks and strategies for building internet-enabled enterprise systems.

The main tasks facing industry at the moment involve the design and development of new internet-enabled systems, the integration of legacy systems into intranets and extranets, and advanced internet publishing. Featuring rigorous computer programming and database elements, the course is accompanied by a variety of compulsory modules providing the core knowledge to be an effective practitioner in the computing industry. These are combined with optional modules covering additional specialised subjects.

You will complete a project during the summer which will typically involve the design and implementation of a significant piece of software.

As well as downloadable applications for the consumer market, you will learn to create mobile clients for larger computer systems.

This is a full-time, on campus award with a placement but you can also study Mobile Device Application Development part-time by distance learning.

Course content

You need to be an experienced programmer before you start. Core modules on the award will teach you the programming and software engineering skills needed to develop and publish applications on three of the most popular mobile platforms: Android (Java), iOS (Objective-C) and Windows Phone (C#).

You will also study the design aspects of mobile systems, from user interface design to the design of enterprise systems which incorporate mobility.

You will undertake 12 month industrial placement where the University will advise you and help you in finding a placement opportunity. There is also a non-sandwich version of this award, which does not include the placment.

You will undertake an MSc dissertation which will involve researching and demonstrating advanced techniques in mobile application development.

You need to be an experienced programmer before you start. Core modules on the award will teach you the programming and software engineering skills needed to develop and publish applications on three of the most popular mobile platforms: Android (Java), iOS (Objective-C) and Windows Phone (C#).

You will also study the design aspects of mobile systems, from user interface design to the design of enterprise systems which incorporate mobility. You will undertake an MSc dissertation which will involve researching and demonstrating advanced techniques in mobile application development.
