The LCT program is an international distributed Master program. It is designed to meet the demands of industry and research in the rapidly growing field of Language Technology. Research and innovation in Language Technology is vital for many of the smart applications that are pervasive in modern daily life, such as virtual assistants, automatic translation services, search engines, voice-driven technology, social media analytics etc. Language Technology (also known as Computational Linguistics or Natural Language Processing) is an interdisciplinary field at the intersection of Linguistics, Computer Science and Mathematics (logic, probability theory, formal language theory, statistics). Hence, students in this program choose appropriate combinations of modules in Language Technology, Computational and Theoretical Linguistics, and Computer Science. Moreover, the students are able to acquire practice-oriented knowledge through our strong and continuous links with industry through internships, joint industry-academia supervisions, and the like.

Mobility

The program involves studying one year each at two different European partner universities. Optionally, a stay at one of the non-european partners for some months is possible, as well as an internship at any of our industrial partners. After completing all study requirements, the students obtain two Master degrees: one from each of the two European universities where they studied.

This one-year Master’s programme is aimed at graduates from the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, urban design and city planning who are specifically concerned with design issues of the public realm and the effects these have on social life and human behaviour. Our focus is to deepen theoretical and design knowledge, changing the mindset of professionals regarding the importance and value of the public realm in the design of our cities.

The rationale behind Urbanism Studies is for professionals to understand and work in interdisciplinary design and planning teams, coupled with the growing desire for cities to establish different, new forms of urban living. As the goal of this programme is to move design thinking from objects to places, our core Urban Studios differ from traditional studios in several ways.

Our approach involves in-depth explorations of urban design issues by combining five topic-based modules situated within the three studio courses. Ongoing seminar reading series and urban film studies are included in the studios. The integrated final project builds upon the previous three studios, leading to a thesis portfolio that reflects the main achievements and thinking of each student as an outcome and product of their intense, focused learning throughout the year.

Furthermore, students are offered the opportunity to collaborate with some of the leading Built Environment (Urbanism) programmes in the world: ETH Zürich, CED at UC Berkeley, UCL Bartlett in London and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston. The MIB is a high-quality comprehensive program of business administration subjects, studied from an international perspective.

The program focuses on the knowledge required by managers in different sectors to work in international companies and environments.

It is a strong generalist program that integrates all the core management courses and uses cross-functional approaches to apply these key fields while providing students with an international specialization.

Foreign language skills are essential in business today. The program is taught in English. No prior knowledge of French is required to attend the program.

The program requires full-time attendance during the first academic year of instruction followed by a period of one year to complete the mandatory Final Management Project.

This postgraduate Master's program is designed for young graduates from any field with no or limited prior work experience.

Recruitment for this program is on a worldwide basis. Students come from a wide variety of backgrounds: science, humanities, languages, technical and engineering.

The full-time Ancient Egyptian Culture course structure is split across the year with three modules offered in each academic semester (a total of six modules in part one) and then a dissertation over the summer (part two). Students study three compulsory modules and three optional modules. The dissertation component is written on a specialist research topic of your choosing.

Part-time students of the Ancient Egyptian Culture course normally take one compulsory and two optional modules in the first and second years and write their dissertation in the third year.

Program Structure

The Master’s Program Curriculum is equivalent to 75 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credit units. If this course is to be used as a pathway to enrolment in a PhD, students will need to complete the coursework/research stream.

If you meet the academic requirements for a course, but not the minimum English requirements, you will be given the opportunity to take an English program to improve your skills in addition to an offer to study a degree at JCU. JCU’s English language provider is Union Institute of Languages (UIL). UIL have teaching centres on both the Townsville and Cairns campuses.
