This one-year Master’s programme is aimed at graduates from the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, urban design and city planning who are specifically concerned with design issues of the public realm and the effects these have on social life and human behaviour. Our focus is to deepen theoretical and design knowledge, changing the mindset of professionals regarding the importance and value of the public realm in the design of our cities.

The rationale behind Urbanism Studies is for professionals to understand and work in interdisciplinary design and planning teams, coupled with the growing desire for cities to establish different, new forms of urban living. As the goal of this programme is to move design thinking from objects to places, our core Urban Studios differ from traditional studios in several ways.

Our approach involves in-depth explorations of urban design issues by combining five topic-based modules situated within the three studio courses. Ongoing seminar reading series and urban film studies are included in the studios. The integrated final project builds upon the previous three studios, leading to a thesis portfolio that reflects the main achievements and thinking of each student as an outcome and product of their intense, focused learning throughout the year.

Furthermore, students are offered the opportunity to collaborate with some of the leading Built Environment (Urbanism) programmes in the world: ETH Zürich, CED at UC Berkeley, UCL Bartlett in London and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston. This affords students fantastic global collaborative opportunities on a wide range of real world cases. Urbanism Studies is externally supported and financed by Ax:son Johnson Foundation, as well as by KTH – Royal Institute of Technology.

HEC Paris’ Master in Management (MiM) is the international students’ gateway to the prestigious Grande Ecole program and a fantastic world of opportunities.

WORLD-CLASS STUDENT BODY

The Grande Ecole program is designed for high potential students from all backgrounds with little or no professional experience, driven to become influential leaders in tomorrow’s world.

Our 2014 intake included students from more than 40 nationalities, with half coming from outside Europe - http://www.hec.edu/Masters-programs/Master-s-Programs/Grande-Ecole/Master-in-Management/Meet-the-Students#block-21437

A UNIQUE TWO-PHASE CURRICULUM TO BOOST YOUR CAREER

The Grande Ecole curriculum (http://www.hec.edu/Masters-programs/Master-s-Programs/Grande-Ecole/Master-in-Management/Program-Details) is divided into a generalist phase and a specialization phase. The first phase concentrates on business fundamentals while the second one focuses on acquiring expertise around the professional goals of the student. The nature of the specialization determines the Master’s degree that the student will finally receive: Management, Management & Business Law, Management and Public Affairs…

This unique curriculum structure enables students to acquire both an excellent grounding in general management and an expertise in a specific field. We firmly believe this combination is the key success factor in training future leaders and making a lasting impact on the careers of our students. In fact, our graduates combine the rare ability to grasp the ‘global picture’ in all situations and a deep understanding that only experts can truly reach.

The program consists of:

> in M1: mandatory foundation courses in general management, electives and a managerial behavior seminar
> in M2: a specialization, an optional certificate and an in-depth research paper.

Moreover, the Grande Ecole program perfectly balances the development of practical leadership and professional skills with the more theoretical requirements, such as a final research paper within the specialization. Students are trained to become decision-makers while focusing on the academic specialization that they choose in light of their professional goals. With the diversity of courses and specializations available, students can develop expertise in several areas of business administration, shape their career plans, all while preparing their entry into the business world through company internships.

A WIDE RANGE OF SPECIALIZATIONS

In M2, students have access to a wide range of specializations, which then determine the Master’s degree that the student will finally receive:

> Master in Management: Strategy, Finance, Marketing, Financial Economics, Economics, Entrepreneurship, etc.
> Master in Public Affairs: Public Policy, International Relations, Diplomacy
> Master in Business Law
> Master in Sustainability and Social Innovation
> Master in Journalism (taught in French only)
> Master in Media, Arts & Creation (taught in French only)
> Master in Cognitive Sciences (with ENS Ulm)

The HEC Paris MSc in International Finance (MIF) program caters for highly-motivated top achieving graduates looking to succeed in a career in finance and consulting. The program has a strong analytical focus yet is accessible from either business and finance (business track) or economics, math, physics, engineering (accelerated track) backgrounds.

FLEXIBLE CURRICULUM

A ‘tailor-designing’ approach towards education is at the core of how we design programs at HEC Paris. This shows in at least two respects of the HEC Paris MSc International Finance curriculum (http://www.hec.edu/Masters-programs/Master-s-Programs/One-Year-MSc-MS-Programs/MSc-International-Finance/Program-Details#block-21071):

> What courses you take during the first semester depends on what you have done before joining HEC Paris. If you have already covered basic financial accounting, investment theory and corporate finance, you will start finance classes at advanced level (business track). If you have not done so, you will start at a more basic level but have significantly more class hours at an accelerated pace so as to enable you to cover the same material at the end (accelerated track)
> The second semester is comprised of more than 30 electives (http://www.hec.edu/Masters-programs/Master-s-Programs/One-Year-MSc-MS-Programs/MSc-International-Finance/Program-Details#block-34760), which you can choose as you see fit: you are free to choose all corporate finance classes, all capital markets or a mix of the two. You may also decide to choose an elective about corporate strategy or macroeconomics.

BALANCE BETWEEN THEORY AND PRACTICE

The number of hours spent in the classroom by HEC MIF graduates significantly exceeds the international standards. Around half of that time will be spent in front of world class researchers (http://www.hec.edu/Masters-programs/Master-s-Programs/One-Year-MSc-MS-Programs/MSc-International-Finance/Program-Details#block-21085), teaching you state-of-the-art knowledge. The other half will be spent in front of top-notch practitioners. The latter is one of many ways in which the learning experience at HEC Paris is different. The reason why we feel it is important to complement theoretical teaching by top researchers with practitioners lectures is that we have learned it is giving our graduates a small "extra edge" compared to graduates of other institutions. The more competitive the environment you are in, the more important having this extra edge is.

STRONG AND COHESIVE PEER GROUP

Who your peers are matters: for the quality of your learning experience, for the perception by potential employers and for the value of your network after you graduate. This is why academic performance is at the top of our admission criteria. But academic performance is not enough: smart, ambitious individuals will underperform if they do not cooperate. We strongly emphasize group cohesion and encourage it any way we can. For instance:

> Honours are granted on the basis of absolute GPA and not class percentile so as to make sure that no HEC MIF student can benefit from underperformance by one of his or her classmates
> A study trip is organized the 3rd week of the program with all HEC finance students participating and interaction for both professional and non-professional activities

LIFE LONG TIES

We are proud of the fact that ties built on campus with both professors and peers carry on after students graduate and become alumni. Alumni get directly involved in coaching the "new generation" of HEC MIF students and making sure they achieve the same success as past students. A few examples:

> Career and job training workshops the first week of the program - http://www.hec.edu/Masters-programs/Master-s-Programs/One-Year-MSc-MS-Programs/MSc-International-Finance/Career-Paths#block-35012
> More than 250 participants in the Thursday night formal networking event of the 2014 London study trip… and many more at the less formal Friday night HEC Finance pub crawl: a unique opportunity to get privilegded access to young professionals from bulge bracket banks!
> Finance event organized the 4th week of September

INTERNATIONAL DIVERSITY

With 29 different nationalities making up the class of 2014 (http://www.hec.edu/Masters-programs/Master-s-Programs/One-Year-MSc-MS-Programs/MSc-International-Finance/Meet-the-Students#block-21087), the International Finance program is enriching on a cultural level as well. Working with so many different nationalities can be highly educational and rewarding and is a true highlight of the program for many. London is the main hub for HEC MIF graduates in terms of placement even though we also have alumni working in Continental Europe, Asia, Americas, and Middle East.

A CORE OF COMMON VALUES

Last but not least, we believe that values matter. Given various unsavory episodes during the crisis, this is even more important for a finance program than for any other program. Our values can be seen in a variety of different ways:

> How we select students: no matter how good or how strong your file is, if we catch you lying or cheating in any way during the admission process, you are out! No second chance…
> Ethics classes: in collaboration with the CFA Institute (the HEC MIF is a CFA partner program https://www.cfainstitute.org/Pages/index.aspx), we included an ethics seminar and an ethics class in our curriculum years before the crisis started.

A WORLD-RENOWNED PROGRAM

The Financial Times (http://rankings.ft.com/businessschoolrankings/masters-in-finance-pre-experience-2015) has ranked the HEC Paris MSc International Finance number one pre-experience global master in finance worldwide in 2016 and for the sixth consecutive year (see the article http://www.hec.edu/Masters-programs/News/2016-06-20-HEC-Paris-Masters-in-Finance-ranked-number-1-worldwide-by-the-Financial-Times).

This program is designed to impart concepts and practical knowledge of professional accounting to students and to develop their conceptual and analytical abilities for the attainment of professional accounting qualifications.

The Master of Accountancy (MAcc) Program has enjoyed a strong reputation as a highly-respected program since its launch in 1998. In 2008, the Program curriculum was re-designed to also cater for the emerging needs of non-accounting degree graduates who would like to equip themselves with intensive accounting education and prepare for a career in the accounting field. The Part One curriculum is equivalent to our Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Accountancy (PDPA) Program (http://www.bschool.cuhk.edu.hk/index.php/programs/postgraduate-diploma-in-professional-accountancy/program-overview), which is accredited by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) as a conversion program under its Qualification Program (QP). The Part Two curriculum prepares accountants on how to integrate the various aspects of accounting knowledge and apply them to the work environment.

We are committed to providing our students with an open, dynamic and interactive learning environment. In addition to lectures, the Program provides students with ample opportunities to engage in two-way discussions with professors and accounting professionals in discussion groups, projects and seminars.

Student Quote

“I completed the Masters program in Ancient Egyptian Culture at Swansea University. During my time in the program, I was taught by experts in the field and I was encouraged to attend many conferences where I met other Egyptologists. I was also given the fantastic opportunity to do research at the British Museum for my Masters dissertation which involved working with a Nubian skeletal collection, thought to be the world’s first evidence of warfare (circa 12,000 BC). As a result of this research, I was offered two internships at the museum and I plan on applying for a PhD in Physical Anthropology in the near future. I have no doubt that I am well equipped to find a position in this field because of the excellent education and opportunities made available to me through the Masters program at Swansea University”.
