Marketing managers oversee the research that provides market knowledge to help guide their decisions. This double degree (Groningen and BI Oslo) will teach you how to become a market-oriented manager.

How can you obtain knowledge about what your customer really wants? How can you implement this knowledge in a financially sound marketing plan? How can insights from marketing research be used in marketing plans?

Truly market-oriented (marketing) managers need customer insights to guide decision-making on issues such as which markets to target, which new products to develop, and what communication themes and channels will best build customer and brand equity.

In the Groningen programme the focus is on customer relations and gaining insight into customers. You will learn to collect qualitative and quantitative data about customers and to analyze it using the latest and most advanced marketing research methods.

In the Oslo programme the focus is on strategic marketing theory, statistical methods and financial implications of marketing investments. In both programmes, practitioners in the field relate theory to practice.

The two degrees you get are:
* MSc in Marketing/profile Marketing Intelligence (University of Groningen)
* MSc in Strategic Marketing Management (BI Norwegian Business School, Oslo)

Degree: MA/MSc in Marketing

Why in Groningen?

The programme is a unique combination of two degrees, in Groningen and Oslo. You learn about marketing research and strategic marketing management in an international environment. Besides, it is an internationally accredited programme, ensuring a high quality education that meets both the AACSB and EQUIS standards, which only one percent of universities reach worldwide.

Job perspectives

This double degree has been designed for individuals who aspire to a career as a market researcher in the private or public sector, as a strategic marketing expert, customs relations manager, product or brand manager, database analyst or market intelligence expert.

Graduates qualify for a range of positions in international, multinational or transnational companies.

Some examples:
› strategic marketing expert› customer relationship manager› market researcher› product or brand manager› database analyst or market intelligence expert

Graduates have also acquired the qualifications to enter PhD programmes and work in international research institutions.

Because all our programmes are EQUIS and AACSB accredited, a standard which only one percent of universities reach worldwide, your degree will be highly valued on the labour market.

Linking education to research and career preparation

Our education is strongly rooted in business practice and society. Also right from the start of your degree programme attention is paid to academic research and preprofessional development. Since an analytical and critical mind and problem-solving capabilities are important qualities in any career our students aspire.

In collaboration with external partners we conduct research projects on e.g banking, local government, customer insights, leadership, energy, healthy ageing and lean operations.

The MA International Fashion Marketing brings together two disciplines for which Regent’s is internationally renowned – fashion and marketing – to provide future fashion marketing managers and directors with the practical and intellectual skills to lead and succeed in the vibrant and fast-changing fashion industry.

Our MA programme has been developed in consultation with industry experts and designed to ensure that our graduates are best placed to capitalise on new opportunities presented by the most sustained period of creative disruption in fashion since the industrial revolution.

Technological innovation is challenging long-established fashion systems and changing the ways in which the industry markets itself globally. Dynamic and fast-paced by nature, the industry is set to continue this period of disruption for the foreseeable future.

Our programme will place you at the heart of the fashion-business revolution, located in central London, the heartland of fashion.

In addition, you will benefit from a study trip to Milan, included in the fees, and have the opportunity to go to Paris and New York, covering all four of fashion’s premier destinations.

Why should I choose this programme?

If London is the fashion capital of the world, Regent’s is surely the best place to study in London. Located in royal Regent’s Park, we are often considered to have the most beautiful campus in the UK’s capital city – and with our sister site in neighbouring Marylebone Village, a haven for fashion and design, there is no better location.

The programme itself is thoroughly grounded in well-established fashion marketing theory and practice, while also focused on developing your personal, professional and leadership skills, as well as your ability to think creatively in response to change.

You will enter the industry in a climate of disruption and uncertainty, particularly to supply chain management and fashion marketing communications, but you will relish the opportunities that this presents.

We encourage students from different disciplinary backgrounds to join our cohort, not only business.

Based on years of experience, we consider there to be five essential elements to gaining the best possible postgraduate education in international fashion marketing and ensuring the most rewarding time as a student.

The best education in fashion marketing is:

‌•Intimate
‌•Intensive
‌•International
‌•Industry-focused
‌•Independent
‌•Intimate

Our teaching philosophy is based on personal attention: our classes are small, with a maximum cohort size of 20. Every student gets to know their lecturers and peers, and you will benefit from more contact time with teaching staff than you would elsewhere. The Regent’s mission is to develop tomorrow’s global leaders: we know that developing you as a future leader in international fashion marketing is most effectively done in an intimate learning environment.

Intensive

Our MA programme is dynamic and intensive, combining modular study with field trips, masterclasses, live projects and industry opportunities. We will immerse you in the fashion industry and the discipline of fashion marketing for the duration of the programme, as well as provide you with the connections to succeed thereafter.

International

There is no better place to study international fashion marketing than Regent’s. With students from over 140 nationalities spread across a small community of 3,500 full-time students, we can confidently claim to be the most internationally diverse university in the UK. With an unmatched international focus and a range of study opportunities at key destinations abroad, our MA programme is truly global.

Industry-focused

As well as being industry-focused in its design and content, your programme is delivered by practitioner lecturers, and encompasses live projects with industry as well as masterclasses with influential industry professionals.

In order to prepare you for careers in international fashion marketing, you will begin your relationship with staff from our dedicated Careers & Business Relations team from Day One, many of whom will jointly deliver your teaching on relevant modules.

Independent

As a private institution, independence is our legal status, but it is also an attitude of mind. We make an intellectual claim on independence, and our students are encouraged to think and operate with independence and individuality.

This is essential to success in both marketing and fashion. By the time you graduate you will have developed your own unique approach to international fashion marketing and your own strengths in relation to the industry.

Key skills, aims and objectives

As an aspiring fashion marketing manager or director, the aim of the MA International Fashion Marketing is to give you the intellectual and practical knowledge to create and implement a fashion marketing strategy within the complex, fast-changing and dynamic international context of the contemporary fashion industry, and to develop the skills necessary to lead and succeed in your future career.

The main educational objectives of the programme are to:

Provide an inspiring learning environment – an environment where you can feel confident that you are acquiring the knowledge and skills that will fully equip you to enter the international fashion industry as a consummate professional
Develop you as a distinctive individual – a professional who is capable of independent, innovative and entrepreneurial thinking in relation to complex and changing contexts
Hone your critical and creative thinking – offering you the opportunity to learn to apply critical, analytical and creative thinking to theoretical and practical fashion marketing briefs

What our students say

“Studying at London Met was a great chance for me to step away from my day job and to meet, talk and learn from lecturers and students from diverse backgrounds. This inspired me to look and think differently and not be afraid to try new ideas at work.” - Ayo Abbas, Marketing Communications Manager

“Studying for the CIM post graduate diploma is a real commitment and it's important to make the right choice of course provider. I switched to the London Metropolitan University after a false start at another university as I'd heard they had high pass rates and the teachers were of a high standard. I wasn't disappointed. The location and course dates were really convenient and the tutors were passionate about their subjects, often bringing their own experience to bear and encouraging other students to participate. I enjoyed the supportive working environment and went on to study business at master's level so found the CIM course a great help both professionally and academically.” - Abigail Brown, Head of Health Marketing

“I thoroughly enjoyed studying for the CIM qualifications at London Metropolitan University. Working full time in the City, the location was convenient and I was impressed with their prior pass rates. Although initially wary of being back in a classroom situation, I enjoyed the networking it provided and found it gave me extra motivation to complete the course. I appreciated the practical experience of the tutors, and found them very approachable.” - Caroline Wright, Marketing Manager

After the course

You will acquire skills and understanding to perform at management level, and students have gone on to become heads of marketing at a wide range of organisations, such as market intelligence specialist S&P Global, international construction company Mace Group, and the charity Cancer Research UK.

Attendance options

Typically students complete this course in twelve to eighteen months but the new modular pathway qualification has been structured to reflect the need for a flexible approach. Therefore each module can also be taken as a self-contained award which can be built up to attain the full certificate.

Evening classes take place at our Moorgate campus from 6pm - 9pm. These can be taken as a full course or as a self-contained award. There are seven weekend classes.

Are you looking to complement your undergraduate studies with a business-focused Masters degree that will enhance your employability? This two-year course develops skills in business and international management while also offering a pathway in marketing.

The first year is the same as MSc Business with International Management. You’ll then undertake a second year that develops the ‘Marketing’ pathway. Specialist modules will cover advertising and marketing communications strategy as well as interactive and relationship marketing.

You’ll develop your research skills through a Masters dissertation or an investigative consultancy project related to an issue faced by a real client. You’ll also explore contemporary issues in management research.

There is no requirement to have studied business, international management or marketing at undergraduate level.

The course is covered by the prestigious AACSB accreditation for Newcastle Business School, which was ‘Business School of the Year’ at The Times Higher Education Awards 2015.

Learn From The Best

Newcastle Business School has a global reputation for delivering some of the best business management education in the UK. We are part of an elite group of less than 1% of business schools worldwide with double accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in business and accounting.

Our staff are actively pushing at the frontiers of knowledge and generating new concepts and insights. Over 40% of our publication outputs and 60% of our impact case studies have been assessed as internationally excellent or world leading. The quality of our research, teaching and engagement with business were among the factors that led to Newcastle Business School being named ‘Business School of the Year’ at the Times Higher Education Awards 2015.

Teaching And Assessment

Your tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including lectures, seminars and workshops. As this is a Masters course there is a major element of independent learning and self-motivated reflection.

Teaching is backed up by a well-designed support system that helps ensure a successful learning journey. We make sure that extensive feedback, from both tutors and peers, is built into the course.

Our assessment strategy is based on our understanding that everyone has different needs, strengths and enthusiasms. Assessment is based on course work and our methods will include essays, reports, group work, presentations, and the master’s dissertation or consultancy project.

Learning Environment

Newcastle Business School provides first-class teaching in a world-class environment. From social spaces and hub areas to lecture theatres and exhibition spaces, our facilities are exceptional. The University’s library was ranked #2 in the UK in the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey for 2015.

The University has also invested heavily in IT labs and facilities. You’ll use software such as ARIS Express Business Process Modelling, various SAS applications, Microsoft Project, specialist decision-making software, and Google Analytics.

Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) is embedded throughout the course with tools such as the ‘Blackboard’ eLearning Portal and electronic reading lists that will guide your preparation for seminars and independent research. Our use of lecture capture software will help you revise challenging material.

There will be plenty of opportunities to put your learning into practice. The Student Engagement Centre promotes all types of experiential learning including volunteering, internships and placements. The Business Clinic enables our students to participate in a ‘consultancy firm’ to provide advice for our region’s businesses.

Research-Rich Learning

As a Masters student you’ll develop your research skills to a new and higher level. Your research supervisor will help you submit a proposal for your Masters dissertation or consultancy project and then discuss its development through to completion in the final semester.

If you decide on a Masters consultancy project, rather than a dissertation, you’ll still undertake primary and desk research. Through your reading, reflection and research, you’ll be expected to show a deep understanding of the issues that are involved in the client brief.

Throughout your course you’ll be an active participant in the ongoing research agenda that’s at the heart of Newcastle Business School. With conferences and research events regularly taking place, and with staff discussing their own research as it relates to the topics you’ll study, there’s a strong emphasis on engaging in up-to-date enquiry-based learning.

Give Your Career An Edge

The course includes two modules that are focused on developing global management competencies. Topics during these modules include emotional intelligence, cultural awareness and the ability to work in diverse groups and teams, as well as project management and decision making.

A further module, ‘Academic and Professional Development’, has a specific focus on self-development. It includes formal sessions with our Careers and Employment Service which offers a range of workshops, one-to-one advice, and networking opportunities.

The option of a Masters consultancy project, as an alternative to the traditional dissertation, can be an excellent vehicle for broadening your experience and building your track record.

In the second year of the course you’ll be extending your knowledge of marketing through specialist modules whose titles are ‘Advertising and Marketing Communications Strategy’ and ‘Advanced Interactive and Relationship Marketing’. You’ll also study a further module ‘Contemporary Issues in Management Research’.

A Masters course that takes two years, instead of just one, will carry particular weight with employers. They’ll understand that you’ll have a deeper understanding of topics as well as more experience.

The course fees are split evenly between year 1 and year 2. In addition, while you can only work twenty hours per week during term time, you can use the extra vacation periods to travel or work full time and help fund your time in the UK.

Your Future

Our graduates typically go into professional and graduate management positions and, by the end of the course, you’ll be well-equipped to follow them. Your knowledge and skills, including your specialisms in international management and marketing, will help you turn good businesses into great ones.

Some employers require completion of a two-year Masters and this course will meet their requirement.

If you decide to start up your own business, it’s good to know that the combined turnover of our graduates’ start-up companies is higher than that of any other UK university.

The course could also lead you to a postgraduate research degree such as an MPhil, PhD and Professional Doctorate.

Whatever you decide to do, you will have the transferable skills that employers expect from a Masters graduate from Northumbria University. These include the ability to tackle complex issues through conceptualisation and undertaking research, the ability to contribute to new processes and knowledge, and the ability to formulate balanced judgements when considering incomplete or ambiguous data.

The course is covered by the prestigious AACSB accreditation for Newcastle Business School, which was ‘Business School of the Year’ at The Times Higher Education Awards 2015.

This course can also be started in January (full time) - for more information, please view this web-page: https://www.northumbria.ac.uk/study-at-northumbria/courses/business-with-marketing-management-dtfbaj6/

As this is a master’s course there is a major element of independent learning and self-motivated reflection.

As a master’s student you’ll develop your research skills to a new and higher level. Your research supervisor will help you submit a proposal for your master’s dissertation or consultancy project and then discuss its development through to completion in the final semester.

If you decide on a master’s consultancy project, rather than a dissertation, you’ll still undertake primary and desk research. Through your reading, reflection and research, you’ll be expected to show a deep understanding of the issues that are involved in the client brief.

Throughout your course you’ll be an active participant in the on-going research agenda that’s at the heart of Newcastle Business School.

To further enhance your employability, we offer the opportunity to undertake a master’s consultancy project as an alternative to the traditional dissertation. You’ll work in a small group, typically no more than five people, and tackle a live project from a host organisation under the mentorship of a member of our academic team. The project can be an excellent vehicle for you to relate theory to practice while developing key employability skills.

Your Future

Our graduates typically go into professional and graduate management positions and, by the end of the course, you’ll be well-equipped to follow them. Thanks to the specialist modules – Analysing Buyer Behaviour and Brand Dynamics, Relationship Marketing in a Global Context, and the dissertation/consultancy project – you’ll have a particular edge in roles related to marketing.

If you decide to start up your own business, it’s good to know that the combined turnover of our graduates’ start-up companies is higher than that of any other UK university.

The course could also lead you to a postgraduate research degree such as an MPhil, PhD and Professional Doctorate.

Whatever you decide to do, you will have the transferable skills that employers expect from a master’s graduate from Northumbria University. These include the ability to tackle complex issues through conceptualisation and undertaking research, the ability to contribute to new processes and knowledge, and the ability to formulate balanced judgements when considering incomplete or ambiguous data.
