This is an opportunity for you to develop your business insight and present your analysis and ideas in a scholarly and professional manner; combine critical discrimination and a sense of proportion in evaluating evidence and the opinions of others.

International Experience
If your ambitions lie beyond the UK, we offer a number of places on our unique Dissertation Abroad scheme. This will involve writing a dissertation at one of our international partner institutions in the period June to August. A number of scholarships are available

The programme is a ‘skills’ based degree containing 8 marketing and finance modules and a short focused business report. The structure of the report has been developed following feedback from employers who indicate that they prefer graduates who are able to write concisely, accurately and clearly in a focused report rather than write in the style of a lengthy and less focused dissertation.

The programme begins with a two week foundation programme where students become familiar with a range of concepts in business, statistics, economics and finance. The programme helps students to understand how the University operates and how to make the most of the range of student services that are freely available. The foundation programme importantly introduces you to your fellow students who will become a major part of your learning experience at Dundee and will continue to be part of your network of friends and business connections after you graduate.

Off-Campus Learning Events: The programme includes off campus learning events embedded in the modules of some of the modules. These events aim to extend your leaning skills in ways that are directly relevant to the pathway and your personal development. These off campus events are one or two days in length and the cost of the transport, event and any necessary accommodation is covered by the MSc programme. At present there are off campus events embedded in the marketing, finance and banking pathways. More off campus events are being arranged and further events are being developed to begin this year.

Accredited internship

All students on our full-time business Masters courses can apply to undertake the PG/MBA Internship Programme Reflective Practitioner Module. This is an 8 week unpaid accredited internship, which can be taken in addition to option modules and will help students to gain invaluable work experience. The internships, which are with London-based organisations, take place during the summer period. To apply, students must submit a completed application form and a copy of their updated CV to the Business Experience Team; the team then shortlist from the applications and conduct group meetings with the applicants.

Ultimately it is up to our internship employers to decide whether they would like to interview the candidate(s) and offer him/her an internship. We have received very positive feedback from both postgraduate students and employers and expect that the internship programme will continue to remain popular amongst our students.

Course in brief

Our MSc in International Event Management requires an open, critical and inquiring mindset for the social-scientific and applied study of events and management. You will be expected to critically evaluate existing knowledge in the field of event management, debate key issues such as sustainability, ethical event production, or legacy planning, and consider strategic responses to forces impacting on events from the global operating environment.

This is an academic course with a high degree of vocational relevance. The content and delivery of the course is strongly underpinned by the course team's expertise, research activities and in many cases first hand experience of the industry. Industry expertise and application is drawn from areas as diverse as festivals, business events, marketing, consultancy, sport and leisure, all of which enrich the design and delivery of the course.

Course structure

Full-time students attend workshops on two days per week with the part-time route usually requiring one day per week. Teaching methods include group work, case studies, presentations, and live projects. The course is delivered through a variety of approaches including lectures, presentations, tutorials and case studies, with an emphasis on interactive learning.

Areas of study

Adopting a social scientific approach to the analysis of the international event industry, specialist subjects include international event strategy analysis and development, critical issues surrounding risk in modern societies, event project management and international event marketing, sponsorship and fundraising.
