As competition policy becomes increasingly relevant in both the public and private sectors, there is a great need for professionals prepared to address market regulation issues. The highly practical focus of the Competition and Market Regulation Program ensures that graduates have both an advanced understanding of the interaction between theory and practice as well as the qualifications necessary for solid placement in the field.

The Barcelona GSE Competition and Market Regulation Program presents students with a learning progression, starting from the basic necessary conceptual frameworks and economic tools, and then introducing core issues in Competition Policy and Market Regulation with the help of leading specialists in each field.

Students themselves will examine real-world competition policy cases and demonstrate how regulation works across specific industries such as banking, energy, and telecommunications, and will design and conduct an independent master's project in their domain.

Students will have a wealth of opportunities to complement their coursework with conferences and seminars in various fields of specialization. Chief among these is the Regulation and Competition Seminar Series, organized by the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) Department of Economics and Business, the Comisión del Mercado de las Telecomunicaciones (CMT), and the Barcelona GSE. Seminars feature academics, regulators, and practitioners at the forefront of their fields discussing specific issues and presenting original research. Teaching faculty include many industry experts teaching in the current edition of the program, as well as Massimo Motta, who has returned from his stint as Chief Competition Economist at the European Commission. Professor Motta has been involved with the master program since its foundation and brings many years of experience both in the classroom and in the practice of competition policy.

Degree

Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive a Master Degree in Specialized Economic Analysis awarded jointly with the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. The degree requires the successful completion of 60 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits of graduate courses (6 credits are equivalent to a 40 hour course), some compulsory and some elective. The students' final program must be discussed with and approved by the Master Director.

Cellular therapies have attracted much interest in recent years in virtually all disciplines of medicine with over 2,700 clinical trials enrolled between 2000 and 2010. As of today, http://www.clinicaltrials.gov has over 27,800 registered cellular therapy clinical trials. The complexity of issues relating to cell manufacturing, the underlying regulatory framework, reimbursement and viable business models, each represent challenges that profoundly undermine the timing and the delivery of a viable healthcare model. Our programme will provide tools that aid the understanding of these complex issues within an integrated and commercial context.

This one-year advanced study course explores the biological, regulatory and business aspects of cellular therapy in the fields of biomedicine. You will study a range of modules that include Stem Cells in Cellular Therapies & Regenerative Medicine and Cellular Therapies in Immunology. You will also complete a dissertation related to business strategy development for cellular therapy.

You will study modules totalling 180 credits throughout the year, with 60 credits coming from the 15,000 – 18,000-word dissertation.

Investigating American and European art markets and cultures of collecting from the Renaissance to the present day, it is taught by staff from the University of Buckingham, the National Gallery and Waddesdon Manor.

A unique MA

A unique feature of the course will be access to two of the greatest surviving art dealers’ archives: Agnew’s, acquired by the National Gallery in 2014, and Colnaghi’s, housed since February 2014 in the Windmill Hill Archive, Waddesdon Manor. It is the first MA in the UK to offer, under the guidance of experts, practical training on how to use, unlock and analyse these rich holdings.

Study trips to Paris and Florence

The course will include study trips to Paris and Florence where students will have the opportunity to study a number of key European collections such as the Edmond de Rothschild collection in the Louvre and the Stefano Bardini collection in Florence as well as visiting important local archives.

Course structure

The course will start in September and will finish the following September. It comprises two introductory weeks on principles and methodologies followed by three 4-week taught modules delivered in the Autumn and Winter terms. During the third term, and under supervision, students research a dissertation which will be submitted at the end of September.

Subject to the agreement of the Programme Director, there are some options for part-time study, one day a week over two years, or by deferral of the dissertation.

Data is being collected at an unprecedented speed and scale – but 'big data' is of little use without 'big insight'. The skills required to develop such insight are in short supply and the shortage of skilled workers in the data analytics market is cited as a key barrier.

The Data Science and Analytics MSc programme provides these skills, combining a strong academic programme with hands-on experience of leading commercial technology – and the chance to gain industry certification.

You will develop both your critical awareness of the state-of-the-art in data science and the practical skills that help you apply data science more effectively in the business, science and social world.

The programme is run in conjunction with SAS, a market leader in business analytics software and services, and the largest independent vendor in the business intelligence market.

Brunel's programme is unique in being the only current MSc programme that is fully integrated with SAS, providing the SAS base certification.

Aims

The Harvard Business Review calls data science the “sexiest job of the 21st century” – with demand for graduates with SAS skills rapidly rising across financial, retail and government sectors. Data science is now in vogue.

From government, social networks and ecommerce sites to sensors, smart meters and mobile networks, data is being collected at an unprecedented speed and scale – creating an expanding job market for qualified data analysts.

The practical aspects of many of the modules will allow you to gain hands-on experience of several commercial SAS tools (e.g. SAS BASE, Enterprise Guide, Enterprise Miner and Visual Analytics). This experience is designed, in part, to develop skills in preparation for the SAS certification part of the programme.

By the end of the course you should be able to:

Comprehend the key concepts and nuances of the disciplines that need to be synthesised for effective data science.

Biofluid mechanics applies engineering, mathematical and physical principles of fluids to solve complex and multifaceted problems primarily in biology and medicine, but also in aerospace and robotics.

Our new MRes course covers a wide range of multidisciplinary training on the kinematics and dynamics of fluids related to biological systems, medical science, cardiovascular devices, numerical modelling and computational fluid dynamics (CFD), focusing on research. The MRes differs from an MSc in that you'll have the opportunity to perform multidisciplinary research for a longer time, preparing you for a research career and equipping you with world-class research knowledge.

The course is taught by the Department of Biomedical Engineering, with input from other departments across the faculty and the University.

During the course, you'll be supported by a strong team of academics with worldwide connections and you'll be offered a unique training and innovative teaching and learning environment.

Program Options

We offer two tracks in our 40-credit graduate program: Planning Market Communication, which emphasizes overall strategy and planning, and Creating Market Communication, which focuses on content and implementation. The program can be completed in one and a half to two and a half years, or in one year with our accelerated full-time one-year cohort option. The program consists of three core courses, three required track courses, and four electives.

With the program electives, you will have the opportunity to emphasize consumer research/behavior, global brand management, digital marketing, or managing the creative process.

The programme of study allows you to freely develop creative design practice and valuable marketing and business skills, building comprehensive understanding, vision and direction.

COURSE STRUCTURE AND CONTENT

The course is developed through seminars, lectures, tutorials, visiting speakers, group critiques, market research and personal research. You will be introduced to research skills and methods, product development, design management and methods, with marketing and business skills. The emphasis of the course is learning how best to present ideas, and where and how to place them in the market.

Students develop and propose a personal route of study and explore and research an area of textiles in knit, print, weave, or embroidery for fashion or interiors, textile art, or in fashion design.

You are encouraged to trial a product in the market either through first hand experience, or through working with studios and agents for designers, shops and craft markets (for designer makers), or with galleries or public spaces (for textile artists).

MODULES

In the first trimester, you'll study Research Methodologies. This introduces generic methodologies and considers subject specific data retrieval analysis and evaluation techniques. You'll also study The Development of Product, Market Research and Product Ideas.

In the second trimester, you'll study Marketing skills. This about developing relevant professional skills and an understanding of marketing requirements for textile designers, makers and artists. You'll also study other modules such as Product Sampling and Development and Research.

The final trimester involves a practice-based Master's Project. This is about bringing ideas to a professional conclusion often in the form of an exhibition of finished wok and supporting promotional materials.

The PG Cert is assessed by studio exhibition and/or portfolio presentation with a marketing assignment.
