Over the course of four semesters, you will learn interdisciplinary leadership qualifications in the key disciplines centered on corporate management. You can choose from three advanced study options, of which two are mandatory: Business Administration, Marketing and Sales, Human Resources and Corporate Development. The program

The Corporate Management (M.Sc.) degree program aims to provide a clear understanding of and hands-on experience in competencies for corporate leadership. It thus meets current market and company demands.

After all, the call for general experts, who have solid business know-how and high intellectual flexibility for innovative and future-centered solutions, is getting louder. The university is catering to these needs with an integrated learning program and a wide-ranging spectrum of methods.

The selection of single, individual focus subjects enables you to flexibly adjust your studies to your specific career of choice. To achieve this, you can choose from three options of academic focus:

Business Administration, Marketing and Sales, and Human Resources and Corporate Development. In addition to the classic business management subjects, a number of creativity-based and leadership skills are trained, as well as a confident appearance, teamwork abilities, resilience under pressure, and efficient organization. Plus, the degree program consists of modules that build on one another, thus enabling you to put your knowledge into use at companies during the reading periods (approx. two days a week, plus during the semester breaks). Here, too, the network of professors and of the university is at your disposal.

Additionally, to prepare you for management tasks in a globally active company, you will attend the International Summer School between the 2nd and 3rd semesters, either within the worldwide Laureate International University Network or at any other university. In the future, you will also have the chance to complete the master’s degree program in a course with international students.

2. Programme objectives & purpose

This is an advanced programme that provides Computing graduates with advanced knowledge and skills in the emerging growth area of Data Analytics. It includes advanced topics such as Large-Scale Data Analytics, Information Retrieval, Advanced Topics in Machine Learning and Data Mining, Natural Language Processing, Data Visualisation and Web-Mining. It also includes foundational modules in topics such as Statistics, Regression Analysis and Programming for Data Analytics. Students on the programme further deepen their knowledge of Data Analytics by working on a project either in conjunction with a research group or with an industry partner.

Graduates will be excellently qualified to pursue careers in national and multinational industries in a wide range of areas. 1) Algorithms and Mathematical Modelling: This module teaches you about determinstic and stochastic algorithms, their implementation, evaluation and optimisation. You will acquire advanced knowledge of computer-based mathematical methods – particularly in the areas of algorithmic algebra and computational stochastics – as well as developing an in-depth expertise in mathematical modelling and complexity analysis of discrete and continuous problems.
2) Programming and Software Systems: This module imparts modern methods for constructing large-scale software systems, as well as creating and using software authoring, analysis and optimisation tools. In this module you will consolidate your knowledge of the various programming paradigms and languages, the structure of language processing systems, and learn to deal with parallelism in program procedures.
3) Information and Communication Systems: In this module you will study the interactions of the classic computer science areas of information systems and computer networks. This focus area represents an answer to the problem of increasing volume and complexity of worldwide information distribution and networks, and for the growing requirements on quality and performance of computer communication. Additionally, you will learn to transfer database results to multimedia data.
4) Intelligent Technical Systems: In this module you are acquainted with digital image and signal processing, embedded systems and applications of intelligent technical systems in industrial and assistance systems, which are necessary for production automation and process control, traffic control, medical and building technology. You will learn to develop complex applications using computer systems and deal with topics such as image reconstruction, camera calibration, sensor data fusion and optical measurement technology.
5) IT Security and Reliability: This module group is concerned with security and reliability of IT systems, e.g. in hardware circuitry and communication protocols, as well as complex, networked application systems. To ensure the secure operation of these systems you will learn design methodology, secure architectures and technical implementation of the underlying components.

Language requirements

Unless English is your native language or the language of your secondary or undergraduate education, you should provide an English language certificate at level B2 CEFR, e.g. TOEFL with a minimum score of 567 PBT, 87 iBT or ITP 543 (silver); IELTS starting from 5.5; or an equivalent language certificate.

To facilitate daily life in Germany, it would be beneficial for you to have German language skills at level A1 CEFR (beginner’s level). If you do not have any German skills when starting out on the programme, you will complete a compulsory beginner’s German course during your first year of study.

Syllabus

While studying this programme you should gain a minimum of 100 ECTS credits and write a Master's thesis. Out of the 100 credits, 35 are earned in compulsory electives, of which 7 must be earned in a seminar; at least 10 credits come from the Methods modules and a minimum of 18 from Principles of Business and Economics.

Methods
The Methods module group teaches you the principles of mathematics, which are important for business and economics; empirical research methods; decision theory; operations research and fundamental concepts and techniques used in information systems. In the assessments, you will be expected to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the subject matter and show that you have the methodology to understand the state of the art of research in the subject area and are able to apply the it to problems in the real world.

Principles of Business and Economics
Principles of Business and Economics deals with the theory and empirical studies in business and household finance, computational representation, and with the control of resources and dispositions in businesses and household, as well as their taxation. The module also imparts knowledge on international, market-oriented control, strategic and organisational management of companies, as well as marketing theory and empirical studies.

Information Systems

The Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies modules consist of theory and empirical studies of subjects closely related to information systems. About the Course

Water security is a major concern facing humanity and engineers are the primary professionals tackling this issue. Annually, more than 3.4 million people die from water related diseases while 1 in 9 people world-wide do not have access to safe and clean drinking water and 1 in 3 people world-wide are affected by water scarcity. In addition, population growth, urbanisation, climate change and increasing energy demands, are placing unprecedented pressures on our finite water resources. This 1-year MSc programme aims to equip students with the skills needed to design solutions to deliver safe/clean water. The programme will also give opportunities to students to study the economics and management of large projects.

Programme Objectives

The MSc in Water resources Engineering will provide students with the technical competences to provide solutions to water security issues. Core modules will address technical aspects of water provision, water resource management and water / wastewater treatment. A primary objective of the programme is to ensure that students have a thorough understanding of modern hydrological modelling tools. The programme has a strong emphasis on the design of hydrological systems, with students working in groups to solve real-world problems. Graduates of this programme will be in a position to make significant contributions to solving water resource problems in both industry and academic roles worldwide.

Programme Structure and Content

This is a 90ECTS programme, one full year in duration, starting in September and finishing August. The programme comprises an individual research project and thesis (30 ECTS), an integrated group design project (15 ECTS) and a number of taught (core and elective) modules (55 ECTS).

The core taught modules include: Hydrology & Water Resources Engineering, Hydrological Modelling, Design of Sustainable Environmental Systems, Water Quality, Water Resources in Arid Regions, and Applied Field Hydrogeology. Sample elective modules include: Computational Methods in Engineering, Global Change, Offshore & Coastal Engineering, Environmental Economics, Project Management, and Estimates and Costing of Engineering Projects.

The Integrated Group Design Project involves the design of components of a water supply and/or treatment system and will be typical of real-world water resources engineering project. Each student will also complete an individual minor research thesis in the area of water resources engineering. This thesis accounts for one third of the overall programme mark.

• Water engineering has been taught at graduate level at NUI Galway for over 40 years. During this period students from over 50 countries have graduated from NUI Galway.
• The MSc in Water Resources Engineering is a re-launch of NUI Galway's International Postgraduate Hydrology Programme established by the late Prof Eamonn Nash. Many of the staff who lectured on the Hydrology Programme contribute to the current programme; so the recognised tradition of world-class teaching in water engineering at NUI Galway continues.
• Currently NUIG staff are involved in large-scale funded research projects in water resources, facilitated by the world-class research facilities at NUI Galway.

• Human health and quality of life is one of the most critical challenges facing humanity.
• The challenge is all the greater due to a rapidly increasing and rapidly aging global population that now exceeds 7 billion.
• Biomedical Engineering addresses these issues directly, with engineers innovating, analysing, designing and manufacturing new medical implants, devices and therapies for the treatment of disease, injuries and conditions of the human body, to restore health and improve quality of life.

2. Programme objectives & purpose

The objective of the programme is to generate graduates with a sound grounding in engineering fundamentals (analysis, design and problem solving), but who also have the multi-disciplinary breadth that includes knowledge of human biology and clinical needs and applications, to be able to make an immediate impact in the field on graduation, in either the academic research or medical technology industry domains. Ultimately the programme aims to generate the future leaders of the national and international medical technology industry, and of academic research and teaching in biomedical engineering.

3. What’s special about CoEI/NUIG in this area:

• NUI Galway pioneered the development of educational programmes in Biomedical Engineering in Ireland, introducing the country’s first bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering in 1998, that was the first to achieve professional accreditation from Engineers Ireland in 2004, and at the graduate level with the Structured PhD programme in Biomedical Engineering and Regenerative Medicine (BMERM) in 2011.
• NUI Galway has been at the forefront of world-class research in biomedical engineering for over 20 years and has pioneered multi-disciplinary research in biomedical engineering and science, with the establishment of the National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Science (NCBES) in 1999, and up to the present day with the announcement of NUI Galway as the lead institution in a new Science Foundation Ireland funded Centre for Research in Medical Devices (CÚRAM).

The International Master’s Degree Programme in Protein Science and Biotechnology is a two-year programme planned around the early integration of M.Sc. students into research groups and the hands-on use of modern biochemical and molecular biology equipment by individual students. Early exposure to research work provides insights into cutting edge approaches in structural and enzymology characterisation as well as cell and molecular biology methods. A completion of a minimum of 120 study units equivalent to ECTS credits is required to complete the master’s degree studies. The flexible programme includes courses in:

• 3-6 week orientation to research work periods in research groups (compulsory)
• Basic aspects of crystallographic methods

In addition, up to 15 credits can be taken from other suitable courses taught at the Oulu University or any other university, as long as they are of the appropriate level and connected to biochemistry or logically support some aspect of the Protein Science and Biotechnology programme.

Due to the range of courses available in the programme, a wide variety of expertise that can be obtained during M.Sc. level studies at FBMM. The official diploma title received after successful completion of our international M.Sc. programme will be M.Sc. in Protein Science and Biotechnology. Depending on the course choices, the training received may also provide you with excellent proficiency in molecular and cellular biology.

The duration of the M.Sc. thesis research work is flexible depending on the interest of the students and may be three months (more courses/lectures taken) or eight months (longer M.Sc. thesis research period).

Significant number of students spend orientation to research work periods outside the Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine or carry out the research work for their MSc thesis abroad

The Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine offers a highly international environment of cutting edge research in Protein Structure analysis, Enzymology, Proteomics, Bioimaging, Developmental Biology, Matrix Biology and Metabolism research. About fifty percent of our staff are native to other countries than Finland, and research groups are well connected globally to other specialists and research groups in their fields of study. Many students holding an M.Sc. from our faculty have gone on to Ph.D. programmes of other prestigious institutions all over the world, and many have stayed at FBMM Oulu to continue in our Ph.D. programme.

The skills gained in the programme offer you the academic training and expertise required to succeed in a research environment, but will also open opportunities in biomedical and related industries.
