STUDY TRIPS

Students will take part in an international study trip of one week in one European Fashion Capital. They will have the opportunity to meet with leading industry professionals and visit companies in the fashion, design and luxury industries.

During the company visits students will work on a project relating to one of these industries and in alignment with their future career ambitions.

INTERNSHIP

Each student will undertake an internship of a minimum of three months in a company of their choice at the end of the classroom part of the program. The internship will contribute directly to the content of the Final Management Project and may take place anywhere in the world.

FINAL MANAGEMENT PROJECT

The second year of the program is dedicated to the Final Management Project which will be undertaken under the supervision of a GGSB professor.
Students will focus on a management aspect of the fashion, design and luxury industries; they are also encouraged to choose the subject of the Final Management Project in coherence with their future career goals. It is possible to complete the project in parallel with an employment or an internship in France or abroad.

FOREIGN LANGUAGES

Foreign language skills are essential in a globally competitive business environment. The program is taught in English, and no prior knowledge of French is required to attend the program. Students have the possibility of learning French or another foreign language such as Spanish or Chinese during the program.
This language component, although not compulsory, is highly recommended for students who intend to pursue an international career, since companies in the Fashion, Design and Luxury industry are currently recruiting personnel speaking the language of the country in which they are based, in addition to English and in-demand languages like Chinese or Russian.

LOCATION

The MSc in Fashion, Design and Luxury Management will be offered at the GGSB Grenoble, Paris and London campuses.

Research Project: Design and Methods

Dissertation

The final element of the programme is the dissertation, which provides you with an opportunity to design and undertake a piece of original research in a selective area of Luxury Brand Marketing. Overview

Our Knitwear degree is aimed at students from a fashion, textiles or fashion technology background. It offers to extend and focus individual design skills. Approaching knitwear design from a creative, theoretical and technical viewpoint – whilst focusing on commercial relevance and product innovation.

It’s part of our School of Textiles & Design, which has long supplied leaders in knitwear and knitted textile design. It’s also near to Hawick, one of the most important manufacturing centres for luxury knitwear in the world – supplying to major brands such as Chanel, Prada and Louis Vuitton.

Course length

The full-time Knitwear course starts in mid September and lasts one year. The course can also be taken part-time over two years.

Course Content:

We aim to achieve a balance between taught material, acquisition of key skills and knowledge with applied practical exploration and enquiry into current and continually changing industry expectations. Introducing your course

The MA Textile Design programme will encourage you to be experimental, to stretch the boundaries and focus on taking your textile design skills to the next level. Taught by industry-experienced tutors and supported by our dedicated technicians, you’ll learn techniques such as print, embroidery and Devore, with access to superb facilities including traditional print rooms, laser cutting, dye labs, illustration and mac suites. Alongside thisyou’ll gain the contextual knowledge and critical research skillsthat will underpin your work through core topics such as sketchbook development, visual and market research and considerations of sustainability. Overview

Whether you are a recent graduate or want to refocus your career, the MA Textile Design programme will allow you to develop your creative design skills and apply them to a range of textile media within a robust academic framework. As part of a well-respected Russell Group university, we place a strong emphasis on research across our programmes. As well as honing your technical skills, you’ll be encouraged to explore the ideas and issues that have shaped textile design and contemporary issuesthat influence the industry, rooting your studio work in a conceptual context.

This 16-month MSc in centered around the international luxury industry in delivered by emlyon business school in partnership with Parsons School of Design at The New School (New York City) and in association with London College of Fashion, combines general management knowledge with specialist knowledge of the luxury industry. Individual coaching, work experience and a unique study period in Paris, London or New York and Shanghai are a full part of the standard curriculum. In this master, you will learn what it takes to succeed in the international luxury industry.

Known internationally as one of the top luxury capitals in the world, Paris provides you with the perfect learning environment to acquire a broad overview of the luxury market and trends by taking the basics of general management and the programme's initial level of specialisation courses from September to the end of January. As part of the second semester, you will have the possibility to attend classes at either London College of Fashion (London, UK) or Parsons School of Design at The New School (New York City, USA). Should you decide to study at London College of Fashion you will learn how to use fashion alongside historical and cultural practice to challenge social, political and ethical agendas during 7 weeks. Attending classes at Parsons School of Design at the New School in New York City will allow you to discover the history of luxury design, analyse spaces and products related to theoretical approaches on luxury design, examine sustainable business models and innovation and meet designers, artists, forward thinkers etc. Starting in April, you will spend a semester in Shanghai, China, to experience the Asian luxury business environment. This program covers the art and luxury management sector with a focus on France and its cultural excellence. Taught in English, this program explores the management, sales and distribution of luxury products using the themes of taste and luxury à la française from Louis XIV to present-day France. Themes covered include the French arts de la table, fashion, gemology, cosmetics and fragrances, interior design, furniture, art objects and design, scenery and décor, etc.

The innovative academic program combines lectures with practical field visits major historical monuments, fashion houses, and workshops that represent French cultural excellence. Legal aspects, finance, luxury marketing and management, communication and strategic marketing are all taught by professionals.

Direct interaction with industry players will allow students to build up a network of top professionals in the field and discover the savoir-faire of different sectors.

Structure

The year is made up of 3 terms: 2 terms of classes (Oct-Dec/ Jan-March) and a term of professional experience in the form of an internship (April-June). The first term ends with a group project to validate the term. During the last two terms, students will work on a personal project that they will be expected to present in front of a jury in validation of their diploma “Titre I”.

Each trimester consists of 200 hours of classes spread out over a 10-week period. Courses are taught in English.Participants are attributed a mentor for personalized coaching as well as group methodology sessions to guide them in the conception and realization of their personal project.

1st Term :

The history of art and style (17th-21st centuries), art law, the management of art objects and artistic projects communication and the marketing of art and luxury goods, defining an artistic project (content, business plan, legal structure, communication, marketing), meeting with professionals in situ during visits and workshops.

2nd Term:

e-communication and e-marketing of art and luxury products, negotiation of art objects, promotion of an artistic production, a brand or an artist, contemporary art and luxury, organizing an exhibit, the history of l’art de la table, the history of fashion and luxury products (fashion and accessories, wine and spirits, gastronomy, jewelry and watches, cosmetics and fragrances, niche brands), the history of interior design, meetings with professionals in situ for visits and workshops, methodology and follow up on personal projects.

Focuses on and contextualises niche aspects of law so as to be accessible to those without prior legal study of intellectual property law or regulation. It provides foundations for critical, analytical and legally creative thinking while exploring legal issues related to trademarks, domain names, passing off, design rights, patent rights, copyright, and issues relating to advertising standards.

Developing Personal and Professional Competence

Enables students to identify, understand, develop and articulate their key personal abilities in the context of their future career aspirations. Students will be given the opportunity to undertake an industry placement, volunteer, study abroad or take part in desk based consultancy in order to be better prepared for their personal and professional life.

Consumer-Led Sustainable Marketing

Designed to provide an in-depth and critical understanding of consumer-led sustainable marketing practices. Students are introduced to the concept of customer insight and its role in marketing decision-making. The module evaluates the psychological, social and economic roots of the discipline of consumer behaviour and relates these to contemporary consumers.

Global Branding and Integrated Marketing Communications

Provides students with a critical understanding of branding theory through an examination of key theoretical frameworks relevant to brand identity, personality, brand relationships and brand culture. Various sectors including fashion, luxury, travel and entertainment are explored while providing students an understanding of marketing communication's mix.

Research Project: Design and Methods

Introduces students to research approaches and time management skills essential for their research project. The module provides essential knowledge of research design across key areas and adopts a critical perspective in comparing and contrasting alternative research models.

Dissertation
