Placed 6th worldwide in the 2017 Financial Times Master in Management rankings, the ESCP Europe MIM is a life-changing option for any career-focused student searching for both a European Identity and a Global Perspective.

This two-year, full-time general management Master programme provides the opportunity to study in up to four countries, with options ranging from ESCP Europe's own six European campuses to our 70 partners worldwide. Designed for students with Bachelor degrees (or equivalent) in any field of study (Master programme) or those without who have previously completed at least two years of university education (Pre-Master programme in preparation for the two-year MIM), it features more than 35 specialisations in Finance, International Business, Marketing, Entrepreneurship and many more.

The integrated programme curriculum, taught across our six ESCP Europe campuses, offers the possibility to obtain up to four national degrees in ESCP Europe campus countries (Germany, UK, Spain, France, Italy and Poland) - plus the option of dual degrees with our academic partners across the globe.

Because we value practical experience as an essential asset, Master in Management graduates leave with a minimum of 40weeks of professional experience. This ensures that you leave the programme with not only a world-class academic qualification, but also the invaluable intercultural practical experience top recruiters are looking for.

In addition to the study-internship structure, we also offer the possibility of following an apprenticeship study track, allowing for systematic structured periods at the School whilst also working in a firm for an extended learning experience.

Internships

All students on our full-time Business Masters courses can apply to undertake the PG/MBA Internship Programme, which forms part of the Reflective Practitioner Module.

The internship allows you to test drive a career and explore one of your career interests before you complete your Postgraduate studies!

Completing an 8-12 week accredited internship helps students gain invaluable work experience. This fantastic work experience can be taken in addition to option modules. Students are responsible for finding their own internship with the support of the Business Experience Team.

To express an interest in the module, students must submit a completed application form and a copy of their updated CV. This will give students membership a dedicated website that offers exclusive access to internship vacancies, one to-one CV guidance appointments, mock interviews, employability workshops and much more.

Students can apply to London-based organisations and have the flexibility to take their internship in the summer period or alongside their studies.

Every year we receive very positive feedback from both postgraduate students and employers and expect that the internship programme will continue to remain popular amongst our students.

School Direct (Tuition Fee) is a route into teaching at both primary and secondary levels. Trainees join other student teachers on the established Business Studies PGCE programme at the UCL Institute of Education (IOE), whilst undertaking their teaching experience at their host school or alliance.

About this programme

Students will understand how business is taught in schools, how pupils learn and make sense of the evolving nature of business. This is reflected in the range of business related courses that are now offered by schools, sixth forms and colleges, with the focus in some instances on entrepreneurship, work skills and new business technologies.

Students will be joining the largest Business PGCE programme in the country, allowing them to benefit from a team of tutors with a wide range of expertise of business, both inside and outside of the classroom. Students will also be able to develop strong peer networks, share ideas, resources and advice amongst your cohort of fellow PGCE Business students.

Students undertake two Master’s-level (level 7) modules of 30 credits each, totaling 60 credits. These can be carried forward onto full Master’s programmes at the IOE.

The Secondary PGCE consists of three core modules: two Master’s-level modules, which are assessed through written assignments, and the Professional Practice module, which is assessed by the observation of practical teaching in placement schools.

Completion of the Professional Practice module and the two level 7 (Master’s level) modules (60 credits) will result in the award of a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE). Completion of the Professional Practice module and one or two level 6 (undergraduate/Bachelor’s level) modules, will lead to the Professional Graduate Certificate of Education (PgCE).

Core modules

  • Learning and Teaching in Business Education (30 Master's-level credits)
  • Teaching Business Education in a Wider Educational Context (30 Master's-level credits)
  • Professional Practice

Optional modules

  • There are no optional modules for this programme

Placement

You will spend most of your time (120 days) in schools, working with business studies mentors who support you through your school placements. The Professional Practice module is assessed through these placements, associated tasks and a portfolio.

Teaching and learning

The programme is delivered via keynote lectures, subject lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials and directed study days at the IOE, as well as time spent in placement at the host school or alliance. Assessment is by the observation of practical teaching, assignments and a portfolio (which links into continuing professional development in the induction year).

Further information on modules and programme structure is available on the department website: School Direct (Tuition Fee): Business Studies

Careers

Graduates of this programme are currently working across a broad range of areas. Some are working as teachers of business and economics education, while others have jobs as middle and senior managers in schools. Graduates in this area can also be found working as education officers, initial teacher educators, teachers in international schools and as entrepreneurs running businesses offering consultancy in schools. The majority of graduates find employment in London schools, with many gaining promotions and responsibilities early in their teaching careers.

Employability

Graduates of the Secondary PGCE programme are highly employable and sought after by schools and colleges in London and beyond. Almost all graduates secure their first teaching post by the time they finish the PGCE programme. Graduates of the programme also have great career prospects, with many becoming Head of Department or a Head of Year within 2-5 years, often acting, in their schools, as mentors to new PGCE student teachers. Many of our graduates become senior teachers (such as Assistant Headteachers or Head of a Faculty) in 5-8 years of graduating, and some are now Headteachers. Others have developed their careers as subject specialist teachers and educators, both becoming lead teachers in the classroom and researching, writing and advising other teachers themselves. The Secondary PGCE Programme is a springboard into a rewarding career, not just as a skilled teacher, but as an educational leader.

Why study this programme at UCL?

This programme prepares students to teach across the 14-19 age range, helping them to develop the professional skills and attitudes to teach business in schools and colleges, as part of academic (A level and GCSE) and BTEC courses.

Tutors on the Business Education PGCE are skilled classroom practitioners with extensive experience in secondary schools and colleges. We aim to give students insight into the continuously evolving subject of business and its application to classroom teaching. Our collaborative approach ensures that students developed into thoughtful and highly-skilled teachers who can work confidently and flexibly within the broad framework of the 14 to 19 curriculum.

The dynamic nature of business means that students benefit greatly from practical experiences and learning outside of the classroom. The IOE offers students the unique ability to visit places such as the London Stock Exchange and the Bank of England; we also have strong links with the Economics and Business Education Association (EBEA) and provide access to national and regional Business Education conferences.

Accreditation:

This route leads to the award of QTS (Qualified Teacher Status).

The internship (4 to 6 months) is a great opportunity to put your academic knowledge to the test, and acquire tangible experience within the industry. The school will give you all the support and tools you need to find the right internship for you.

A recent emlyon business school placement survey shows that companies such as Audemars Piguet, Christian Dior Couture, Hermès, Infiniti Europe, Lancel, Sheraton Hotel, Van Cleef and Chanel are some of the top internship and employment providers. Alumni are primarily working in the following industry segments: management consulting in luxury business, fashion and leather goods, automotive, watches and jewellery and the top 3 job positions are project manager, product specialist and consultant.

International Experience

As the global luxury market’s centre of gravity shifts from the West to the East, from Europe to Asia, so do the business challenges luxury companies face on a daily basis. To successfully develop a career in this industry, it is therefore vital for future managers to establish a thorough understanding of how customer expectations and cultural norms influence the brand strategies that are the basis of success for all luxury companies. By studying in three distinct locations, you will develop both a broad view of the global luxury industry as a whole, acquire the specialist knowledge required for success in this industry, learn how to navigate the specifics of these different business markets successfully, and in addition build the foundations for the intercultural competencies that working in a global industry requires.

Students have access to Company visits, Expert Panels and a Luxury Week in Shanghai where they are given the opportunity to meet emlyon business school partners, permitting them to exchange with real business representatives and further develop their network from the start of the program. With these advantages, students have a stronger resume, a broader network and the necessary resources it takes to enter the international luxury job market.

- Placement
All Student Teachers take the Professional Practice module which is primarily assessed through the two main school placements, associated tasks and portfolio. The relevant Lead School will make the arrangements for school experience.

Teaching and Learning

The Secondary PGCE full-time route is delivered via keynote lectures, subject lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials and directed study days at the Institute of Education as well as time spent in placement schools or colleges. Assessment is by practical teaching, assignments, portfolio tasks and, for some subjects, practical projects.
