The University of Winnipeg and The University of Manitoba established four joint masters programs. The resources of both universities were thus made available for graduate work to the Masters level in these disciplines. Students enrolling in a Joint Masters Program enjoy at both universities all the rights and privileges normally accorded to graduate students; two months before their expected date of graduation they shall declare in writing the university from which they wish to receive their degree.

As part of the agreement establishing these Joint Masters Programs, it was arranged that administrative aspects, e.g. admission, registration, etc. would be entirely in the hands of the Faculty of Graduate Studies at The University of Manitoba. All prospective graduate students must complete the official application for admission to the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Manitoba and consult with the Graduate Chair at The University of Winnipeg.

Religion

The Department of Religious Studies at The University of Winnipeg and the Department of Religion at The University of Manitoba offer a Joint Master of Arts Program. Graduates of either university who have completed a recognized pre-Master's program in Religion, or who hold a B.A.(Honours) in Religion, or have completed a program equivalent to a pre-Master's or Honours in any recognized university of college, are eligible to apply. University of Winnipeg students can also qualify for admission by completing the Bachelor of Arts (4-year) degree in Religious Studies. Applications will also be considered from B.A. (Honours) graduates in other disciplines with a strong background in Religious Studies. Students completing the Joint M.A. Program may elect to receive their degree from either of the participating universities.

The Joint Master in Global Economic Governance and Public Affairs takes place in Rome, Berlin and Nice. The programme is focused on how to assess, manage and enhance private and public institutions’ governance with a wide range of economic and digital intelligence tools.

Overview of the year

  • ROME

The programme starts in Rome (October to December). Courses will give an introduction to Global Governance, focusing on the context and challenges of economic governance and policy in the 21st century.

The Master continues in Berlin (January to March). Teaching will be concentrating on new forms of transnational and interregional governance as a way forward towards Sustainable Development in the context of major climate and demographic changes.

  • BERLIN

Studying in Berlin, one of the most dynamic and inspiring cities of the 21st Century, helps students to analyse how institutions, corporations, foundations and research centers are preparing the transition towards climate and demographic changes through innovative economic, social and environmental initiatives. Courses will discuss topics such as energy transition and sustainable finance. Case studies will review public-private partnership and innovative governance to ensure sustainable development.

  • NICE

Courses conclude in Nice (April to June). A special focus will be laid on Policy Intelligence, inciting participants to investigate how far the digital society enables transforming economic data into policy knowledge. As part of their academic requirements, students will complete a final master thesis.

Degree & Title

Graduates receive two certifications from the CIFE along with a diploma from the LUISS School of Government, granting altogether 60 ECTS at Master level:

  • The CIFE Joint Master in Global Economic Governance and Public Affairs (GEGPA), certifying the successful completion of the academic curriculum.
  • The degree qualification "Policy Officer in European and International organizations" (level 7 EQF), recognized by the French state. (CIFE)

History

The joint Master of Arts program is offered by the History Departments of The University of Winnipeg and The University of Manitoba. Courses and thesis direction are offered at both institutions, and students completing the program may elect to receive their degrees from both of the participating universities. Students may choose between a course M.A. and a thesis M.A. The first involves four courses, three of which should be 7000/700-level History courses. In addition, the student is required to select a major field, and must pass both a written and an oral comprehensive examination upon that field. The second choice involves two 7000/700-level courses and the presentation of a thesis. In both programs the student is required to demonstrate a reading knowledge of a second language (French for Canadian History).

Public Administration

This Master's program is offered jointly by the Department of Political Science of The University of Winnipeg and the Department of Political Studies of The University of Manitoba. Unless otherwise specified by particular agreements attached to its creation, the program is governed by the general procedures and regulations devised by the two universities for Joint Masters Programs.

The objective the program is to provide students, both full- and part-time, with a sound knowledge of Public Administration. The approach is interdisciplinary, although courses in Political Science/Political Studies are emphasized. The core exposes all students to a common set of courses designed to encourage both innovative and integrative perspectives. Why study at Dundee?

Building on the success of the Joint LLM in International Commercial Law, Dundee Law School has established a partnership with the University of Toulouse to run a joint LLM programme in Comparative and European Private International Law.

This is a topic of increasing practical importance in the era of globalisation - where to litigate, what law should be applied, and when can foreign judgments be recognised. This unique programme will explore the contrasting approaches of the common law and civil law worlds.

In the Spring semester (January-March) students will undertake private international law modules at Dundee, and then over the summer a dissertation.

In September, students will go to Toulouse to undertake a range of private international law modules, all taught through English.

As software systems become an ever more important part of everyday life, the dependability of these systems is becoming ever more critical.

The unique, two-year Joint Master programme, the Erasmus Mundus Joint Msc in Advanced Systems Dependability (DEPEND) is offered by Maynooth University in Ireland, the University of St. Andrews in Scotland (UK), and the Université de Lorraine in Nancy (France). Up to 20 full, 2-year grants worth up to EUR 49,000 each (fees, travel, & subsistence) are available per year, funded by the European Erasmus+ EMJMD Programme: full details will be published soon on this website.

The course provides students with the knowledge, skill, and in-depth technical understanding of the key topics of safety, reliability, availability, and security of software-based systems. This is achieved by bringing together the theory and practice of software development through research projects and work experience in both industrial and research settings.

Students attend two of the three universities during the course, spending one year at each. Annual summer schools are an important element of the course, and these take place at a different university each year. The 120 ECTS course consists of taught modules, projects & dissertations, experiential learning activities (work placements), and opportunities to explore the culture of each country. 

On successful completion of the course, students are awarded a Joint M.Sc. degree by a consortium of the three universities; the course is accredited in all three countries.

About MathMods

MathMods is a 2-year Joint MSc programme which can be taken in 5 EU universities: University of L’Aquila in Italy (UAQ), Vienna University of Technology in Austria (TUW), Autonomous University of Barcelona in Spain (UAB), Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) & University of Hamburg in Germany (UHH), and University of Nice - Sophia Antipolis in France (UNS).

What makes MathMods so special is its peculiar mobility scheme, that is the fact that our students will be spending their postgrad years in two or even three different European countries. You'll be indeed studying in central Italy for your first semester, then move to Austria or Germany for the second term, and finally move again to 1 of our 5 partners for your second year, based on the mobility path you'll be assigned.

Programme Structure

Semester 1 focuses on Theory and is to be spend in L'Aquila (Italy)

Semester 2 focuses on Numerics and can be taken in Vienna (Austria) or Hamburg (Germany).

Then for Year2 each partner institution offers a specific curriculum or study path:

  • Mathematical modelling and optimisation (UAQ, Italy)
  • Stochastic modelling and optimization (UAB, Spain)
  • Modelling and simulation of complex systems (TUHH or UHH, Germany)
  • Mathematical modelling applications to finance (UNS, France)
  • Advanced modelling and numerics for applied PDEs (TUW, Austria)

Semester4 is dedicated to thesis work.

Aims

Mathematical modelling refers to the use of mathematics and related computational tools to bring real-world, challenging and important socio-economic and industrial problems into a form simple enough so that a good solution can be found in a reasonable time, while keeping the relevant features of the problem. Constructing models requires knowledge of enough mathematical theory, methods of solution which are really effective and efficient, computational tools at hand to do it, some knowledge of the field of application, and communicative skills to understand the important elements from experts in that field. Our master's programme tries to put together all these elements to produce professionals able to work in different relevant fields with the highest intellectual level and state-of-the-art tools.

Effective modelling and simulation is an art that require a lot of practice, so that problem solving, project development and team work are aspects that should be highlighted in any training programme, as our Consortium knows perfectly. On the other hand, the abstraction behind the specific application is necessary to realise that the same base tools can be applied, with the needed changes, to very different situations in various engineering fields.

Language

The language of the whole course is exclusively English at each of our five universities. Students must also attend (and acquire the relating credits of) a course of basic Italian language (first semester) and German language (second semester). Students will also have the opportunity to attend local language courses during their second year (spent at one of the five partners).

Employability

The area of applied mathematics on which this project is focused is a fundamental scientific field for a number of key technologies and sciences. The areas of the proposed tracks connect very well with various branches of the European high-tech industry, and one of the goals of the project is to enhance these connections by means of the release of well prepared professionals and researchers.

Career opportunities for graduates will typically arise in research and development laboratories, especially those defining and testing numerical models and procedures, either working for an specific sector or with a broader scope. Also, in big or medium size enterprises possessing their own research department or a division with an orientation towards research, in public or privately held Sector Technology Centres, and at computing centres involved in data processing or the creation of numerical codes for the industry.

Academic opportunities

The graduates will be able to apply successfully for PhD programmes if they wish so, as has happened for the three already completed cycles. In all the countries of the Consortium members, the programme has been validated as enabling the holder of the MSc degree to enter a local PhD programme. A good percentage of our students seem indeed to prefer pursuing a PhD before going to the industry or returning to their countries of origin. The intended level of the programme, together with the initial selection of the students, allows affirming that most of them could follow a successful academic career, after a suitable PhD.

At Cergy-Pontoise, students are required to choose their major either in Business and Taxation Law or Law and Business ethics. Classes are taught by academics and practising lawyers or other professionals thus promoting real engagement with the legal community. This two-year studentship at Bristol Veterinary School provides a link between feline clinical and research work, with an opportunity for involvement in multiple projects and completion of an MSc by research on a project entitled ‘The impact of feline degenerative joint disease on mobility and quality of life in cats’ using data from the Bristol Cats study. The MSc will be undertaken on a part-time basis over 2 years with the remainder of time being devoted to a range of feline-related work such as production of the e-newsletter Feline Update, delivery of CPD and advice to veterinarians, involvement in teaching, journal club, clinical rounds, diagnostic laboratory work and involvement in other research projects ongoing during the fellowship. The studentship provides an insight into an academic/research career and is particularly suitable for a veterinary graduate with some clinical experience who is interested in feline medicine and research. Other current areas of research interest are infectious diseases, feline immunology, genetic disorders, shelter medicine and epidemiology. 94666 189

The MSc by Research project:

Feline degenerative joint disease (DJD) is a common, but challenging condition in cats, with prevalence estimates ranging from 61% to as high as 99% of cats. Whilst DJD can lead to reduced mobility and pain, with significant potential impacts the cat’s quality of life (QoL), little is known about risk factors for this condition. Diagnosis of DJD primarily depends upon owners detecting behavioural changes in activity in their pet. Differences in activity between cats with DJD and normal cats have been detected using accelerometry. Early detection of DJD would allow a multimodal approach to delaying/halting progression of the disease, thereby improving the cat’s QoL. The aims of this project are to: 1) evaluate risk factors associated with the occurrence of feline DJD, 2) identify differences in the activity profiles of cats with signs of DJD, compared with disease free cats and determine whether accelerometry is more sensitive than owner report at detecting DJD and 3) investigate changes in the QoL with this condition. The project will use data from the Bristol Cats study, veterinary orthopaedic examinations, owner reported signs of altered activity, accelerometry and QoL questionnaires to realise these research aims.

The course will consider the complex conditions and multiplicities of the contemporary city. We will speculate on the patterns of organisation, the accretion of historical strata, and the network of infrastructural connections, political and economic frameworks that define the twenty-first-century city. Our aim is to form architectural scenarios based on sets of contextual (mnemonic) outputs that bear witness to these strands of development, whilst at the same time defining something new, unexpected and ultimately challenging.

The course is intelligently paced and driven by a thematic framework. You will acquire a comprehensive set of skills that will help you to understand the role of the architect in shaping the modern city.

Each year we will adopt and visit a majorEuropean city. Specific scenarios or narratives for investigating these cities will be established at the beginning of each year, and will be explored under the direction of full-time academic staff, with contributions from practicing architects, guest critics and other contributors.

Format

The course is arranged over three teaching periods during the academic year (September to September). You will take modules to the value of 90 credits. The MSc is made up of a range of 5, 15, 20 and 30 credit modules. Each of the taught modules will be examined by continuous assessment. The pass standard for passing each module is 50%. Each module must be passed.In order to progress to teaching period 3, you must have reached a 50% pass in all modules in periods 1 and 2.

This course provides students with a solid international perspective on strategic communication and provides an opportunity to study in both Stirling, UK, and Barcelona, Spain.

The MSc Strategic Communication & Public Relations is an interdisciplinary, advanced level course taught by established academics and practitioners. Students spend Semester 1 at the University of Stirling and then go to Pompeu Fabra University for Semester 2. Students then can decide to have their dissertation supervision at the University of Stirling or Pompeu Fabra University.

The course covers a range of modules including public relations and communication management theory, strategic public relations planning, public diplomacy and strategic communication, media relations, digital media, public affairs and advocacy, and research methods.

Delivery and assessment

Delivery methods include lecture, workshops and seminars.

Methods of assessment include case studies, timed assignments, essays, presentations and reports. Students also complete a 12,000-word dissertation.

This new Joint MA programme offers students an exceptional opportunity to pursue a graduate programme that will deliver an excellent understanding of multilevel governance and international relations which is enhanced and enriched by the mix of both British and French perspectives. Students spend the first semester at Aston University, taking a number of core and optional modules. They then spend semester two at Sciences Po, Rennes, where they study a further suite of core modules through the medium of French language, before moving on to undertake a related internship, and completing a final “Rapport de Stage”.

Learning, teaching & assessment

You will take part in interactive seminars, discussion and simulation exercises, as well as undertaking group project work. There are also opportunities for individual research and guided study. MA students are a fundamental part of the intellectual life of the Politics and International Relations study group. All students on MA programmes take part in study visits and the regular series of guest lectures and research seminars on issues of contemporary political relevance as well as taking part in the conferences and events organised and hosted by the Aston Centre for Europe and by the study group. All students have the opportunity to take part in a week long study trip to visit the EU institutions and related organisation in Brussels.
