Our program offers an introductory first semester with an introduction to software development, database concepts and web development preparing students to engage in advanced study following their own selection of options in areas including database development, database administration, enterprise software development (.NET/Java), web development, and mobile application development (Android and/or iOS) in subsequent semesters of study.

This Programme intends to enable participants to cope with the challenges of regulating, executing and monitoring public procurement in an economically and socially responsible manner. It is unique in its comprehensive coverage of the four pillars of effective national public procurement systems as defined by the OECD. New topics in public procurement are also explored. Emphasis is placed on practical work and case studies dealing with typical problems in the management of the tendering and contract execution phases. It imparts the necessary soft skills in contract negotiations and conflict resolution while stressing the importance of professional and ethical behaviour.

CURRICULUM OF THE MASTER:

Distance Learning

During the distance learning period, you will have to study three Modules on the core subjects of the course: law, economics and procurement management. This will make sure that the group meeting in Turin knows the fundamental principles and key steps of the procurement cycle.
The three Distance Learning (DL) Modules are:

Module 1: Introduction to the legal framework for public procurement
Module 2: Introduction to economics for procurement management
Module 3: Introduction to procurement management

During your the four months of distance learning, you will have access to an on-line platform, through which you will learn as an individual as well as in a collective way, while receiving support from tutors with expertise in the subject matter, participating in the forum, using the documentation centre and networking.

Face to Face

The second part consists of face-to-face learning: lessons will be held in Turin at the ITC-ILO campus. Attendance of classes is compulsory. This is the core period of instruction, incorporating application work and group/individual solutions of assignments.

This master is designed to contribute to the development of competent occupational safety and health (OSH) professionals.
A multidisciplinary background is needed to operate successfully in the broad field of OSH. The course therefore incorporates training sessions on the topics and disciplines relevant to OSH. The training focuses not only on OHS issues but also on the development of organizational, managerial and inter-personal skills. Specific study visits are planned to offer direct interaction with experts in the field. Visits to 12 different productive settings in Italy are planned in order to offer direct interaction with experts in the field.

The master course will have three phases, one consisting of 20 weeks online distance learning, another consisting of 11 weeks residential training at the ITC-ILO campus in Turin, Italy and another distance phase of 21 weeks for the preparation of the dissertation.

1st Phase: Preparatory Internet-based distance learning

. This phase includes 370 hours for self-studying and exercises and 180 hours for preparing and submitting the assessments.

Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals and basic concepts of the OSH through the following eight modules:

Module A1: Introduction to the occupational safety and health.

Module A2: Occupational Safety.

Module A3: Occupational Hygiene.

Module A4: Occupational Medicine.

Module A5: Occupational Psychosociology and Ergonomics.

Module A6: National OSH Governance.

Module A7: Organization of OSH at the enterprise level.

Module A8: Participatory approaches for the improvement of the working conditions.

This phase is preparatory. It will enable participants with different levels and fields of knowledge to reach an adequate and homogeneous level for taking advantage of the residential phase.

2nd Phase: Residential phase of Turin

. This phase will include classroom training (315 hours), study visits to selected enterprises and related training sessions (125 hours), and 110 hours of assessment.
Instructors will use lectures, discussions, exercises and other interactive learning activities to strike a balance between theory and practice and to stimulate discussion among the participants and professors. A practical approach based on the analysis and resolution of OSH issues will be taken.

The contents are split into 11 topics (one for each week). The modules in this phase are:

Module 1: Safety techniques.

Module 3: Major hazard control.

Module 4: OSH management systems.

Yet the Rana Plaza disaster in Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2013 was tragedy for the workers, their families, the country and the industries, and an imperative for new thinking, new practice, and fresh ethics. It is a horrific milestone for fashion manufacture, communication, consumer awareness and industry responsibilities. The industries are now reaching out to governments, NGOs, charities, unions and radical thinkers for advice and support. They are accountable for their current and future ethics. Without doubt it is time for change in which education is a crucial contributor to the new solutions, and alternative futures for the industries.

The new MSc Ethics in Fashion (See http://www.postgraduate.hw.ac.uk/prog/msc-ethics-in-fashion/ ) is a research led, taught programme, focussed on analysing and understanding the industry, whilst mapping the changes in practice, monitoring the voices and diversity of stakeholders in the supply-chain. The School of Textiles and Design, and the research staff have strong global industry and NGO links in design, corporate social responsibility reporting and corporate affairs, social enterprise. The MSc is normally studied over one year full-time or two years part-time.

Two additional aspects contribute to the uniqueness of the GIMA programme: GIMA is a joint venture involving four renowned Dutch universities: Utrecht, Delft, Twente and Wageningen; and GIMA is a blended learning programme, enabling you to do most of your studying from the place at which you study best (home or office). Only the first and the last week of each module are classroom-based.

Programme Summary

The MSc Geographical Information Management and Applications (GIMA) offers a challenging programme in the domain of Geographical Information Sciences (GIS). It will help you to develop your knowledge and skills in the field of geo-information management and geo-information applications. As a future geo-information specialist, you have to address a wide number of fundamental issues in today’s society such as: Why is geographical information needed and how can it be used to solve problems in the broadest variety of application fields (in flood risk management, spatial planning, location-based services, orientation and navigation, location of sales outlets, spatial aspects of crime, dealing with natural hazards and humanitarian disasters)? How can proof-of-concept geo-information and geo-information technology based solutions for societal problems be designed and implemented and how can the quality and usabiliy be evaluated? What are appropriate concepts, methods and techniques for the management of geo-information and geo-information processes, which may involve multidisciplinary teamwork?
The GIMA programme deals with all of these issues and, teaches, among other things, how to apply and manage geo-information in organisations and projects by critically understanding and using state-of-the-art geo-information theories and technology.

Features of the programme

This Master programme is offered by four renowned universities in the Netherlands: Utrecht University, Delft University of Technology, University of Twente and Wageningen University. As a student, you have access to the large pool of experts from all four universities. You can choose between a full-time (two years) or parttime (four years) programme. Exemptions are possible for students who have relevant working experience, making it possible to complete a part-time programme in approximately three years. GIMA is a blended learning programme. It consists of distance learning (85%) with contact weeks at the four universities (15%).

Graduates have excellent career prospects. The demand for managers and application specialists in geo-information in the professional market is constantly increasing. Our alumni are employed in both the private and public sector (by companies, consultancies, government organizations and research institutes) as managers, specialists and researchers.
