Our curriculum is international in scope and is suitable for UK and international students from a range of disciplines. The programme will help you to develop an ability to think critically about the relationship between tourism and management in different contexts and across a range of functions e.g. marketing, policy, business evaluation, strategy and applied research. Throughout our MSc, there is a strong emphasis on sustainability which positions people and the environment at the centre of tourism development and destinations.
Our dissertation module is the flagship of our programme, where you get to demonstrate and apply all the knowledge and skills you have acquired to study a contemporary tourism management issue of your choice. We encourage students to pick a dissertation subject that not only interests them, but is directly related to the kind of employment they are looking to secure following their graduation. Added to that, you can opt for our Work Based Learning module which allows students to work with a tourism business client in a consultancy role, or you may choose to travel abroad to take advantage of summer school opportunities in Europe and further afield.

The contemporary international tourism industry is facing a range of challenges. On this course you will explore how destinations and organisations may respond to these challenges through the development of innovative solutions, such as new products or services, or alternative ways of doing business.
You will explore the political, social, economic challenges facing the tourism industry, how innovation and entrepreneurship might provide solutions to these challenges and the impact this has on consumer behaviour. You will have the opportunity to gain ‘real world’ experience by working with our industry partners on a Tourism Consultancy Project.
After completing the taught element of the course you will have the option to undertake a one year, paid work placement. You will be fully supported in finding a placement and supervised throughout by a member of our academic team.

The course involves an innovative learning experience in the Tourism Consultancy Project and lots of opportunities to shape your own learning.
The tutors are internationally renowned for their research and consultancy activities, and their excellent links with the international tourism industry. They bring commercial expertise into the classroom to inform you of contemporary developments taking place in tourism and hospitality. Learning and teaching is very much student-centred, participative and interactive. You will take part in workshops, seminars, lectures, case study analysis and one-to-one tutorials.
Assessment is based predominantly on individual coursework and the dissertation.
This masters equips you for a career in the international tourism sector. This may involve working with international tourism businesses in the private sector, such as travel agencies and tour operators, or working in the public sector with local, or national tourism organisations, destination management organisations, or government agencies. You might also consider starting your own business, or social enterprise.
Some students choose an academic career by studying for a PhD with us, or in other universities. Our study programme provides students with excellent preparation for doctoral studies and careers in teaching in universities.

You will examine the concept of strategicsustainable destination development from amanagement and marketing perspective. Thismodule includes a live project.
