The International Master’s in Statistics develops your practical, statistical and computing skills to prepare you for a professional career in statistics or as a solid basis for further research in the area.

The programme has been designed to provide a deep understanding of the modern statistical methods required to model and analyse data. You will benefit from a thorough grounding in the ideas underlying these methods and develop your skills in key areas such as practical data analysis and data modelling.

It has been accredited by the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) and equips aspiring professional statisticians with the skills they need for posts in industry, government, research and teaching. It also enables you to develop a range of transferable skills that are attractive to employers within the public and private sectors.

Students whose mathematical and statistical background is insufficient for direct entry on to the appropriate programme, may apply for this course. The first year of the programme gives you a strong background in statistics, including its mathematical aspects, equivalent to the Graduate Diploma in Statistics. This is followed by the MSc in Statistics.

Bioinformatics, statistical genetics and medical statistics
Research covers bioinformatics (eg DNA microarray data), involving collaboration with the School of Biosciences. Other interests include population genetics, clinical trials and survival analysis.

Nonparametric statistics
Research focuses on empirical likelihood, high-dimensional data analysis, nonlinear dynamic analysis, semi-parametric modelling, survival analysis, risk insurance, functional data analysis, spatial data analysis, longitudinal data analysis, feature selection and wavelets.

Careers

Students often go into careers as professional statisticians in industry, government, research and teaching but our programmes also prepare you for careers in other fields requiring a strong statistical background. Students start with the first term at any of the 5 partner universities belonging to the International Business School Alliance (IBSA) and have to change to a second IBSA-partner in the second term. The final research project in the third term is completed at this second IBSA-partner.

After completing the whole program successfully, students receive a degree from both universities, at which they have studied.

In partnership with NEOMA Business School, France

The Luxury goods industry deals specifically with the desire for excellence and the exceptional, and has shown in recent years to be an exceptionally resilient industry. Largely due to growing demand in the Asian market and relatively consistent demand from traditional markets, the luxury industry has continued to display promising growth trends in clear contrast to the performance of comparable industries over the last few years. However, in spite of this, the field of luxury management is largely not covered by traditional studies in managerial theory.

The International Master in Luxury Management is a 12 month programme developed in partnership with NEOMA Business School. The students of IMLUX are dividing their time between studying in Reims, the capital and largest city of the Champagne region in France, and Milan, one of the world’s premier fashion centres.

The course, entirely taught in English, will teach students the importance of combining traditional managerial practices and theories with concepts and methodologies required to meet the needs of the modern luxury goods industry. This requires superior and outstanding craftsmanship, excellent and cutting edge design skills, unique customer experience delivery throughout all interactions with customers, and the building of a strong meaning through branding.

These are achieved through a number of formative and hands-on methodologies, including:
• Teaching and instilling the fundamentals of luxury management, with special attention paid to the supplementation of skills and knowledge essential to luxury brand management and therefore not typically taught in conventional management studies.
• Providing outlets for students to get in touch with key players in the industry, allowing for the development of meaningful connections and networking opportunities.
• Providing students with opportunities to gain working experience in cooperation with luxury based companies to assist in the progression of working aptitude and skills.

Three distinguished universities in England, Italy and Switzerland, which are among Europe's most sports oriented countries, have come together to provide a ten month programme that combines top-class academic teaching and practical case studies supplemented by guest lecturers and field visits. The course focuses on three key and inter-related aspects of sport humanities, management and law.

Developing unique people

The FIFA Master offers a dynamic international environment with around 20 different nationalities represented in a class of approximately 30 postgraduates that are selected each year. The international multi-disciplinary approach provides postgraduates with the opportunity to learn a broad range of subjects and develop their analytical skills to better cope with the fast-changing trends in the sport industry.

For a unique industry

The FIFA Master offers a unique opportunity to meet top executives from high-level international sports federations, clubs, agencies and organising committees, enabling students to build up their own network of contacts - one of the keys to a successful career in sport. On top of these opportunities, each graduate also becomes a member of the FIFA Master Alumni Association (FMA). The FMA plays a crucial role in connecting all alumni of the FIFA Master, creating lifelong bonds between graduates.
