This course will give you a firm understanding of development theory in an international context, with a particular focus on how to bring theory into practice and build your practical expertise in range of development disciplines.

The course aims to enhance your capacity to critically evaluate economic, political and social factors that are affecting the development policy environment, on a national and international level. Throughout this Master’s degree, you will develop management techniques and skills, and the ability to apply them in a development context.

Through empirical research and analysis, you will have the opportunity to develop specialist expertise in a particular aspect of development management.

The course is designed to prepare you for a career in development management with an international organisation, a non-governmental body or a government development agency.Our graduates are NGO programme officers, trade advisors, project managers, microfinance specialists and development consultants. Some of our graduates have also set up their own development charities or proceeded to PhD research and teaching. 

Our regular contributors to teaching and learning activities include experienced field practitioners drawn from international development organisations and NGOs.

Active and enquiry-led learning is a central learning method on the course. Learning is based studying on real-world case studies with official project materials and survey data from the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and other development agencies. 

As part of this course, you have the opportunity to obtain a PRINCE2 Foundation certification in project management. 

A highlight for many students is the field trips and social events organised throughout the course which provide an opportunity for networking and extending learning in new environments.

The course will particularly suit those seeking to work within NGOs and the international development community (including the World Bank, IMF, central and development banks, and government economic planning directorates), as self-employed development specialists or consultants, or as trade attaché in foreign diplomatic offices.

Should you wish to complete the PRINCE2 project management qualification, this will also enable you to work with multinational corporations where, alongside good technical skills, an awareness of global development issues and challenges and the ability to think critically about the world are valued.

Graduates from the programme have worked as specialists advisers with top NGOs across the globe and as advisers with trade and economic departments in government offices. Others are currently working as development consultants, microfinance specialists and as advisors on United Nations-sponsored projects.

This degree is at the cutting edge of development theory, policy and management. It provides students with the critical and analytical skills to enable them to operate effectively in international development environments. Covering macro and micro level perspectives, the course offers rich insights into the challenges of contemporary development theory, policy and management. The course is structured around the compulsory core modules of International Development Theory and International Development Policy, with flexibility built in through the optional course units chosen by students to meet their own objectives and interests.

The objectives of the course are to provide an integrated, cross-disciplinary framework for the postgraduate study of development. The unifying focus of the course is the analysis of strategies for overcoming poverty. Students will gain knowledge of different development paradigms and an awareness of their evolution. COMPANY ANALYSIS AND PROFILE

Students will select a company with international business located in different national culture. The purpose is to evaluate the impact of organization design on human resources roles and responsibilities. The objective is to gather public and internal information to develop their own analysis of the situation.

The program encourages effective teamwork as the major part of modules expects students to work in groups. These groups will consist of students of different nationalities and rhythms, as some students attend courses part-time.

RESEARCH TECHNIQUES AND PROJECT PROPOSAL

A research techniques module has been created to provide the skills required to effectively work on the Final Management Projects and on future professional projects.

FINAL MANAGEMENT PROJECT

The second year of the program is dedicated to the Final Management Project, a written work of approximately 20,000 words, conducted under the supervision of a tutor from GGSB. Students will choose an aspect of International HR Management and are encouraged to link the chosen subject matter to their future career. The project can be completed in parallel with full-time employment or an internship based in France or abroad.

FOREIGN LANGUAGES

Operating in an international environment requires foreign language fluency and therefore a foreign language module is an option on the program for all students.

Non-French speakers may study French (beginner to advanced level). This option is highly advised for those who are looking to become professionals in France. French speakers may choose from a number of other languages at beginner level.

This course lasts 1 year. Graduates of the MSc International Sports Management will have distinctive skill sets with the ability to critically discuss the concepts and key functions of international sport management as well as being able to analyse and avaluate strategy, organisational structures and design, plus organisational behaviour and operations in international, European and UK-based sports organisations.

You will be able to critically discuss the management of resources, the marketing of sport products, the strategic direction of sport organisations and the ethical, environmental and legal issues underpinning international sport management.

This programme combines a mix of theory and practice in the study of international human resource management (HRM) and prepares students to work as HRM professionals or people managers within global organisations. 

By studying this programme students will receive grounding in the field of international HRM with a specific focus on its development into a strategic function within global organisations. As well as developing a comparative awareness of the various elements of HRM practice, notably: training and development; recruitment and selection; and performance management, students will be equipped with a range of analytical, diagnostic and facilitative tools to support their future work in international teams. All students are required to complete a project during the programme but may substitute this with a dissertation, if appropriate.

Our International Human Resource Management graduates follow a variety of paths upon graduation. Some enter (or return to) traditional HRM roles with the benefit of CIPD membership. Typical career paths include roles in learning and development or recruitment. The programme is also directly relevant to students seeking senior managerial positions in international organisations with responsibility for the management of people.

Our graduates tell us that the MSc in International Human Resource Management gives them the key skills required to build a career in HRM as well as providing the opportunity for CIPD membership.
