This programme offers students with a Bachelor's or Master's degree advanced non-technical training in information management, with an emphasis on the efficient and effective application and management of information technology in various business contexts (e.g. finance, marketing, HR, production and logistics, etc.). Following basic training in technology, the programme explores specific management issues in greater depth, particularly in order to develop the skills required to analyse information needs, design and manage information systems and fine-tune an IT strategy as an integral part of an overall business strategy.
The key focus is the preliminary design needed to develop and set up an information system. In completing your Master's thesis, you can apply these skills within a specific business context. Finally, a wide range of electives enables you to either explore specific areas in greater depth or gain a broader understanding through a multidisciplinary approach.
This programme presents a non-technical curriculum in information management. It focuses on the effective and efficient application and management of information technology in a business setting. First, a basic technological background is offered, after which the management aspects are elaborated in more detail. The programme aims at developing skills in analysing information needs, the modelling and management of information systems and the alignment of information technology strategy with business strategy. Hence, the main focus is on the early phases of the information system development cycle. By means of the master project, skills acquired throughout the programme are applied in a concrete business setting. Finally, the electives provide the opportunity to explore particular aspects in more depth or to broaden the scope by taking one or more multidisciplinary courses.

Students will be resident and undertake full-time study in the UK. Under both, the 9 and 12-month programmes students take compulsory and/or elective modules in Part 2.
The 12 month option involves taking an elective 20 credit module between July and August, which would also mean a 20 credit reduction in the number of taught modules taken in the spring term.
After completion of this programme, students are well-prepared to follow a career in the challenging fields of risk management, or risk analysis with banks, regulators, portfolio managers, corporate treasuries, risk management software houses, specialist financial boutiques and hedge funds. Professional Risk Managers’ Association (PRMIA)
ICMA Centre MSc Financial Risk Management students are eligible for exemption from Exams I and II of PRM Certification. In addition MSc FRM students are provided with assistance to take PRM Exams III and IV.
The ICMA Centre is a Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment (CISI) Centre of Excellence. Centres of Excellence are a select group of UK universities, recognised by the CISI as offering leadership in academic education on financial markets. Students who are on a financially-related masters course recognised by the CISI are eligible for exemptions and membership.
ICMA Centre students who register and successfully complete two CISI Diploma in Capital Markets modules (Securities and Bonds & Fixed Interest Markets) are eligible for an exemption from the third module (Financial Markets).
There are excellent prospects for roles within global IT Service Management as it is an expanding sector with a skills shortage. Professional bodies in this area (i.e. itSMF and the SFIA Council) recognise the need for quality and standards in the provision of IT Services underpinning IT Service Management and the quality and skills of staff employed in this profession.

The rationale for the course is based on the recognition that the effectiveness of all IT Services is a vital aspect to the prosperity of any organisation. The course embraces best practice from leading service providers, and by continual reassessment, ensures all material is relevant to today’s computing and management expectations.
The course encompasses IT Service Management through a series of progressive units developing the student’s knowledge from fundamental concepts, through to units addressing IS strategy. Subjects covered include: management information, quality management, application development, infrastructure, service support and delivery, continuity planning, people and operational issues of implementing IT Service Management Best Practice. The course addresses current standards for IT Service Management, such as ISO20000 and ITIL®.
