The Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre (IBioIC) has launched this unique Masters in Industrial Biotechnology. IBioIC has committed to creating the next generation of skilled industrial biotechnologists.
The course meets industrial needs and is at the forefront of developments in science and engineering. It combines the expertise of staff from 13 academic institutions across Scotland. Our industrial partners also provide input to the course.

The course will provide you with a strong foundation in basic industrial biotechnology. You’ll also cover advanced state-of-the-art topics in a wide range of industrial biotechnology-related areas. A three-month placement is offered, giving students the opportunity to gain valuable experience working with one of IBioIC’s industrial partners.

The Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences (SIPBS) offers an excellent environment for research and teaching. It is located in a new building with several laboratories. All are fitted with modern equipment.
Two semesters of formal teaching are followed by an intensive research project, carried out with an industrial partner.
The final assessment will be based on performance in exams, coursework and the research project. If necessary there may be a formal oral exam.

Developed in partnership with the pharmaceutical industry, the four pathways of our MSc in Pharmaceutical Industrial Advanced Training (PIAT) are postgraduate-level training programmes designed for scientists and managers working in the pharmaceutical industry and NHS in the fields of product development, manufacturing and quality assurance.
Many of our units have been developed to support those seeking to build their QP portfolio and our team includes QPs who are willing to support your development through this pathway.

We offer a three-day summer school each year to allow you to meet fellow students and your tutors while attending workshops to support your learning and development in the units.

This new and unique course enables pharmacists (registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council) to come together in a small peer-group learning environment to develop as advanced clinical practitioners. The course is flexible with a choice of classes that look at specific practice and personal development needs.
The course is designed to produce highly skilled practitioners who can improve patient care by driving forward innovation in all areas of pharmacy practice through delivery of the Scottish Government’s Vision and Action Plan: Prescription for Excellence
The Independent Prescribing (IP) qualification is included within the course as an optional 30-credit module; practitioners who have already completed the IP qualification will receive 30 credits for prior learning and the requirements for each award will be reduced by 30 credits.
This course consists of a series of optional classes.
Successful completion of 60 credits from any combination of classes leads to the award of a Postgraduate Certificate.
The award of a Postgraduate Diploma requires 120 credits. The MSc requires 180 credits, which includes a project and class in research skills.

The course is designed to develop graduates who have exceptional scientific understanding and a host of transferable skills, including leadership skills. It is therefore especially recommended to high-achieving and ambitious students seeking an opportunity to gain extensive hands-on training in an industrial environment, working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
The course blends the two fundamental disciplines underpinning drug discovery and provides students with the opportunity to practise background theory within the productive, research-led environments offered by the School of Pharmacy. This school has world-leading expertise in the areas of drug discovery and pharmaceutical science, and students on this course will have the chance to learn directly from staff at the forefront of the field.
The course is technology-rich, using online learning packages to supplement face-to-face teaching and innovative assessment methods.
The second year of the course has been developed in conjunction with the pharmaceutical industry to ensure currency and relevance, and to increase the future employability of graduates. Our aim is to train future leaders in the pharmaceutical sector.
The placement year with one of our industrial partners is arranged and guaranteed upon completion of a successful application and interview process. You will pay reduced tuition fees for the second year of the course, as you focus on your industrial training.
Due to limited places available, students who are unable to join the two-year programme will automatically be considered for our Royal Society of Chemistry accredited one-year programme, which includes the same disciplines underpinning drug discovery and research-led environment in which to practise the theory.
The overall aim of the MSc is to develop knowledge and understanding, cognitive skills, key skills and practical and professional skills in the area of Drug Discovery and Pharmaceutical Science. The overall drug discovery process from ‘concept to clinic’ provides the reference point for the education and training delivered in the more specific scientific and regulatory aspects.
Students will, therefore, be able to develop an understanding of the scientific principles underlying the main topic areas housed within the arena of drug discovery. In addition, upon completing the degree students will be able to make effective use of electronic communication and information search and retrieval to facilitate development of key critical skills with which to assess and analyse a broad array of scientific literature.

This course is designed for graduates of chemistry, pharmacy and other related sciences who are contemplating a career in the pharmaceutical industry, academia, the NHS or with government agencies such as drug licensing authorities.
The programme provides a good background in basic pharmaceutical sciences followed by advanced training in drug discovery, drug product design, drug delivery, pharmacology, microbiology and regulatory processes. It also offers advanced practical experience and supervised training, together with an opportunity to undertake an in-depth research project as part of an active research group.
This course is suitable for both UK and non-UK graduates, and international students benefit from our excellent support networks.
This course is one calendar year, full-time, involving 30 weeks of taught modules divided into two 15-week semesters, and a project which is largely carried out during the remaining time.
Students may have the opportunity to undertake a short industrial placement (optional) during their second semester. A four-month research project is integrated into the second semester, on completion of which you will be required to submit a 10,000 word dissertation. The assessment of each taught module includes coursework and a written examination paper at the end of semester two.
Past research project topics include the development of novel transdermal formulations containing naturally occurring antioxidants as sunscreen agents, and the use of mucoadhesive gels for vaginal drug delivery.

Despite major advances in drug-research, many common diseases such as cancers, neurological diseases, cardiovascular disease and other auto-immune diseases, lack effective treatment, or are found incurable.
