How do you perceive colour under constantly changing lighting conditions? How does a tennis player prepare himself to return a ball which yet has to be played? And what role do eye and head movements play in this? How are we able to write?
Catching a ball, grabbing a cup, writing down a sentence: these are all targeted actions that you often perform without thinking about them. Performing perceptuomotor tasks as a team such as in sports, understanding the actions of others, joint action in collaborative and competitive contexts: these are examples of hot topics in social neurocognition in which Nijmegen scientists are highly interested.
To patients who suffered a brain haemorrhage automatic actions come not so naturally any more. They find it extremely difficult to perform them. Why is that? Which neurocognitive processes play a role in these actions? That is what researchers who study perception and action want to discover.

With this educational background you may find a position with one of the industrial or non-industrial research institutes in the Netherlands or abroad (e.g. traffic research, man-machine interaction, etc.). Our approach to this field

Perception, Action & Control is a central research area within different faculties of Radboud University. It is aimed at the three basic components of current Cognitive Neuroscience: modelling (e.g. in physics), designing and conducting behavioural studies (e.g. in psychology) and measuring the neurobiological foundations of behaviour. The various research groups of the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour that study these processes use a wide range of modern research facilities which enables them to provide natural stimuli and measure complex everyday behaviour. Our research in this field

The Radboud University has an outstanding reputation in the field of neurocognition. In 2002, the ultramodern Donders Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging (DCCN) was officially opened on campus. The Graduate Entry Medicine course is delivered by the University of Nottingham in partnership with Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and is based in a purpose built medical school on the Royal Derby Hospital’s site.

The four-year medical course commenced in September 2003 and is open to graduates of any discipline. There is an annual intake of 87 home/EU students who are based in Derby for the first 18 months of their course. For the Clinical Years, these students will combine with the students from the five-year course and whilst on placement will rotate around many of the teaching hospitals in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire, and in the community. Experiencing different sites across the counties is an educational and desirable feature of your training. Currently our students are on placements at the following hospitals:

The course aims to widen access to a broader range of applicants than school leavers with A levels. It is intended to build on the intellectual skills acquired by students who have undertaken a first degree.

After successful completion of the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BM BS) degree, graduates are required to undergo a further two years of foundation doctor training. Full registration is granted by the GMC at the end of the first year of this training. Non-British nationals graduating from UK medical schools are subject to work-permit restrictions.

Eligibility

Graduates will need a minimum of a lower second-class degree and must apply through UCAS, course code A101.

In addition you must have sat the GAMSAT examination (which is designed to ensure the entrants have the requisite knowledge and reasoning skills) in either September 2014 or September 2015.

NB: registration for GAMSAT and application to the School of Medicine via UCAS are separate processes and both are required for admission to the graduate entry course.

A great deal of emphasis is placed on work experience, as we want to ensure that you are making a well-informed choice about your future career, something which a few days shadowing would not provide. Relevant experience could include volunteering in a care home, working as a healthcare assistant within a hospital.

Psychotherapeutic Counselling courses at Staffordshire University offer two routes to a professional qualification in counselling. For those studying at postgraduate level the Postgraduate Diploma Psychotherapeutic Counselling and for those studying at undergraduate level (H) the Professional Diploma Psychotherapeutic Counselling. Additionally, applicants with a Postgraduate Diploma can apply for direct entry into the final MSc year. Both the Postgraduate Diploma ans Professional Diploma are accredited by BACP and aim to meet the standards of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy for counsellor training and education. The course reflects the four elements of training: Theory, Counselling Skills, Professional Issues and Personal Development as outlined by the Association. The course contact hours may be counted towards meeting part of criterion 4 of the BACP Counsellor/Psychotherapist Accreditation scheme. Who is it for?

This is a general MBA including all the main subjects of strategic management: marketing, finance, operations, leadership, strategy, global management, sustainability, economics and innovation. In addition, you can use your own organization as the basis for your learning and your assignments, to ensure direct relevance and practical application while you study. Offered in collaboration with Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), this new programme offers an unparalleled opportunity to study the social, political, cultural and economic development of the modern city from historical perspectives and through comparative experience of two of the great urban laboratories of the Western world, Paris and London. In this interdisciplinary programme, taught in English, you will explore the development of urban topography and planning through site visits and analysis, using a primarily bifocal approach to the growth of city living and management, and how that has shaped the fabric of the world.

With faculty expertise drawn from ULIP and three Schools in QMUL’s Faculty of the Humanities and Social Science, as well as its split-site delivery, the programme enables students to develop both their empirical understanding of and their methodological approaches to what distinguishes and what connects these two cities, while expanding these comparative insights towards a broader engagement with urban history and culture, and the challenges cities face today.

Programme structure:

The programme consists of four modules plus a dissertation and an assessed research methodology component. Two core modules are delivered in the autumn term in Paris at ULIP, and two optional modules taken from a range offered in Paris at ULIP and in London at Queen Mary University of London in the second term. You can choose, therefore, between a split-site programme in Paris and London or a full year in Paris.

The programme is delivered via small-group seminars where you will be encouraged to discuss key issues and participate through seminar presentations. The programme will also be supported by a hands-on approach, including site visits and workshops. Sessions are led by members of faculty from ULIP, and the Schools of History, Geography and English and Drama from QMUL in weekly seminars led by staff members with original research qualifications and interests in the area.

Entry requirements:

Students should have an upper second-class honours degree in a relevant Humanities-related subject. A recognised equivalent from an accredited overseas institution is also accepted.

If English is not your first language, satisfactory evidence of your English language proficiency must be provided. IELTS 7.0 (minimum writing 6.5) is the minimum level for entry to the course.

The degree is taught entirely in English and there is no French language requirement.

Relevant care work includes: nursing assistant, project worker, arts instructor, care work in a community setting, art teaching, or facilitating art workshops. Course Description:

The discipline of art psychotherapy draws upon the visual arts, psychotherapy and psychology and is applied within psychiatry, special  education, social services and the voluntary sector. Art psychotherapists work with individuals, groups and communities. Art psychotherapists enable clients to access their own image-making abilities. The therapist and their client jointly explore the meaning of the process and image/art object in the light of personal experiences and/or interpersonal relationships that may sometimes be distressing or troubling. The aim is to facilitate the intra-personal and interpersonal communication of experiences that the client may initially find difficulty in discussing verbally.

The art psychotherapist’s task is to support processes of emotional integration by providing a safe, reliable and containing therapeutic environment within which the client can create and use art making to develop insight and promote change.  This course is designed for people who usually have at least one year’s experience of, or are currently, working in a caring capacity such as psychiatry, special education, social services and the voluntary sector.

Teaching, learning and assessment

You will attend classes, work in groups and carry out independent learning. Assessment methods include reports, essays, and presentations. Each year group contains 25-30 students. However, most classes take the form of supervision, seminar, lectures and interpersonal learning groups with a maximum of 15 students. You will undertake 110 days supervised practice placement over the training period; placements are allocated by QMU. All students are required to be in personal psychotherapy throughout the duration of the course. Students will attend supervision on site at the practice placement setting and at QMU throughout the training.

Full-time students attend practice placement two days per week and part-time students attend one day per week over two semesters.

Teaching hours and attendance

Year One classes for full-time students take place usually from 9-5pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Year Two classes take place from 9-5pm on Thursdays only. Part-time students attend classes on Tuesdays, 9-5 pm and Wednesdays, 9-1pm for Year One and in Year Two, Wednesdays and Thursday only for Year Three and/or Four of the part-time route. You will also be required to carry out independent learning. Full-time students attend practice placement two days per week and part-time students attend one day per week over two semesters. Part-time students wishing to complete their Clinical Project in Year Four will attend personal academic tutorials by appointment. All students will be required to the training programme. The Art Studio will be open for art practice on Mondays, Fridays and weekends.

Links with industry/ professional bodies

Graduates are eligible for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as Registered Arts Therapists (Art) and are eligible for full membership of BAAT (British Association of Art Therapists).

Art psychotherapists work with a wide range of clients and communities, individually or with groups, within the public and private sectors throughout the world. The course meets the requirements of the Health and Care Professions Council Standards of Proficiency for Art Therapists. This degree carries 240 credits/120 European Credits which are transferable across Europe and attracts students from all over the world. Graduates work in a wide variety of different settings across the globe including health, education and the voluntary sector.

It is a dynamic, interactive and work-related course which has been designed in response to the continuing professional development needs of professionals with an educational role.

The course is accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (nurses and midwives) for teacher status and for Fellowship status by the Higher Education Academy (HEA). It will develop your understanding and skills of facilitation and teaching. You will become confident in facilitating and supporting the design and delivery of education and in working with technology to enhance learning.

Links with industry/professional bodies

The e-PgCert is accredited by the NMC for teacher status (nurses and midwives only) and for Fellowship or Associate fellowship by the Higher Education Academy (HEA). People with limited teaching responsibility should apply as associate students to obtain Associate Fellowship of the HEA (by completing Education in Action A only). Recognition by other professional bodies may allow you to record a teaching qualification with your profession.

For those studying at postgraduate level (M), the MSc/Postgraduate Diploma Psychotherapeutic Counselling and for those studying at undergraduate level (H) the Professional Diploma Psychotherapeutic Counselling

Both routes aim to meet the standards of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy for counsellor training and education. The course reflects the four elements of training: Theory, Counselling Skills, Professional Issues and Personal Development as outlined by the Association. The course contact hours may be counted towards meeting part of criterion 4 of the BACP Counsellor/Psychotherapist Accreditation scheme. Learning and teaching

Each unit is led by a specialist tutor and comprises:

- Tutored time - 40 hours involving you in lectures, group work and individual or paired tasks.
- Independent study - 80 hours in which you will research issues raised in tutored time and plan, research and write the Unit Assignment.

Studying by means of directed learning is currently possible for some units. In the Research Enquiry phase, a supervisor and co-supervisor will be responsible for giving you advice and support, and monitoring your progress.

Intensive teaching weeks

On-campus units are offered at specific times of the year according to a programme published in advance.

The Summer School normally runs for three weeks from the beginning of July, one or two units are also usually offered in January (applications for both must be made via Summer School process).

One core and one optional unit are typically offered via distance learning in either the spring or autumn term.

Methods of assessment

Units will normally be assessed through one assignment of 8,000 words.

Your Research Enquiry will be assessed through a viva voce examination at the University by a member of staff (not your supervisor) and by an external examiner especially appointed to your thesis. The Research Enquiry must provide evidence of originality of mind and critical judgement about your chosen aspect of education, and must contain material which is worthy of publication.

- First or 2:1 Honours degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate subject, from a recognised university.
- Advanced qualification (MEd, MA or MPhil) in education or a related field. Alternatively, the completion of two Masters level education-focused units at the University of Bath will be considered.
