The course covers all aspects of housing services, sustaining communities, governance and law, housing organisations and health and well-being.
Many Scottish students are eligible for a SASS postgraduate loan which covers the fee for the postgraduate Diploma elements. The course fully integrates all of the academic and practice components of the professional qualification of the Chartered Institute of Housing. This includes a structured, assessed work experience internship, which sets up graduates for a ‘fast track’ into a career with housing organisations in the social, private and voluntary sectors.

Final Project

Your international study of a business and management area will influence the trajectory of your career. The final group project allows you to showcase what you have learned and how you will apply it, culminating in a comprehensive report and oral defence. For the final project, you will:

- Work in a group composed of Audencia and Deusto students from a variety of nationalities and educational/professional backgrounds.
- Choose amongst available topics provided by programme directors and updated yearly to reflect pressing social and economic issues.
- Receive guidance from a project supervisor with specialised knowledge in the project subject field.
- Write the final report in English.

Comprehensive oral examination (end of period 3, June)

Your group will present the final project to a panel composed of the EIBM programme’s three directors. A Q&A session in English, French and Spanish will follow your presentation, allowing you to demonstrate your subject knowledge and language skills.

Facilities Management (FM) is one of the fastest growing professions within the UK providing a holistic, integrated approach to the delivery and management of property and associated support services; enabling both the organisation and individual to pro-actively and effectively manage assets, contents and components for the benefit of the users.

Course Overview

The course offers a stimulating part-time pathway, allowing flexibility for individuals with responsibilities and commitments, to progress to Master’s level within the field of: Facilities, Property and Asset Management. The programme is modular, containing both core and elective options within Part One and a Dissertation; generally work related, in Part Two. The latter is often completed remotely but with full workplace support being provided by an experienced supervision team and specialist University support staff.

This is the only post-graduate F.M. related qualification offered within an educational establishment in Wales and the south-west of England. The programme is eminently suited to those working within or aspiring towards a senior management position, addresses cutting edge, strategic and operational issues that impact upon estates, property, facilities and corporate business services. The current mode of attendance for Part One occurs at the Mount Pleasant campus in Swansea, generally taking place on a Wednesday afternoon, between 2.00pm and 8.00pm.

Existing and past students have entered the programme from a range of specialist discipline areas, including engineering, building services, surveying, hotel services, general business administration, hard and soft F.M. property, project management, town planning, health-care etc. Their employers have included international PLCs, central government, local authorities, professional practices, Universities, Further Education colleges, Housing Associations, outsourced F.M. organisations, Welsh Government Agencies etc.

Effective FM is critical where highly serviced buildings and spaces are provided but has many other applications that embrace the commercial property, housing and business support areas. Many candidates use the programme to enhance their management and business skills whilst underpinning technical and professional subject knowledge, in areas such as the environment, asset management and building technologies, waste management, energy use, health and safety as well as developing core business and people management skills.

Graduates have an excellent track record of securing jobs in environmental consultancy, research and government agencies.

The unique emphasis of this programme is the practical challenge of measuring, analysing and evaluating dynamic environmental data for environmental problem-solving and management purposes. Learning is focussed around practical field and laboratory work.

A key element of the programme is the dissertation, for which students undertake research relating to any special interests they have in environmental management.

This programme develops key leadership and management skills for current managers and future leaders of organisations in the homelessness sector.

The course was developed by the University's School of Business School in collaboration with the London Housing Foundation (LHF), who are sponsoring the course. LHF may consider sponsoring applicants from relevant areas of the public sector as well as the third/voluntary sector.

The course is primarily designed for appropriately experience and qualified staff in the homelessness and allied sectors. The course also enables you to make a study visit to a similar sector in another country through the support of the London Housing Foundation.

The course will run throughout 2017 on a part-time basis. There'll be an initial residential from Tuesday 24 to Thursday 26 January followed by a combination of weekly attendance (9 weeks) each Thursday afternoon and three two-day blocks (Thursdays and Fridays) during each Semester.

This module covers different concepts of leadership and management focusing on what might be considered the more appropriate styles in the homelessness and housing context. This module explores theories, techniques and knowledge in the area of Organisational Behaviour and People Management relevant to homelessness and housing organisations.

Moving to one campus

Between 2016 and 2020 we're investing £125 million in the London Metropolitan University campus, moving all of our activity to our current Holloway campus in Islington, north London. This will mean the teaching location of some courses will change over time.

Whether you will be affected will depend on the duration of your course, when you start and your mode of study. The earliest moves affecting new students will be in September 2017. This may mean you begin your course at one location, but over the duration of the course you are relocated to one of our other campuses. Our intention is that no full-time student will change campus more than once during a course of typical duration.

A person wishing to work in the not-for-profit field is not necessarily someone who is disinterested in making a profit. It may well be that this individual has invested many years in the for-profit rough-and-tumble world and now feels drawn to giving back to the community in a less aggressive, less competitive endeavor. The not-for-profit’s primary goal is not to increase shareholder value; rather it is to fulfill some socially desirable need. Career prospects

Career opportunities exist in both the private and public sectors and there are lots of possibilities for those with Surveying and Mapping skills. Positions include GIS specialist, ranging from support in large corporations (banking, insurance, retail), environmental consultancies, local authorities, utility companies, or mapping specialist with software house or geoinformation data provider. There is currently a very high demand for surveyors, especially in hydrographic survey, in support of offshore oil and renewable energy engineering and maintenance. In addition to the offshore energy industry, land surveyors are in demand in many parts of the world to support mining operations, major civil engineering projects and to provide surveying services for Land Registration.
