The MA Consultative Supervision is for you if you are a member of the helping professions providing non-managerial supervision for practitioners in relation to their professional practice. This includes Health Care Professionals, Counsellors, Therapists, Psychologists, Social Workers and other similar roles. The Consultative Supervision programme has been running for over twelve years and has an excellent reputation as a comprehensive training package for continuing professional development, covering both the practical and theoretical aspects of consultative supervision.

What You Study

Diploma Stage (6 two-day study blocks):

* Module One - Individual Supervision Skills & Strategies (30 credits) - On this module you will learn a range of supervision skills and theoretical models and are invited to develop your personal model of supervision practice which is congruent with your own theoretical orientation and working context.

* Module Two - Group Supervision & Supervision on an Organisational Level (30 credits) - This module will help you to adapt your personal models of supervision to work with groups and within an organisational setting. Skills, strategies and models for group supervision are explored, as well as the role of supervision in creating healthy organisational systems.

Masters Stage (5 days teaching plus monthly tutorials):
Following the successful completion of the Diploma, you will have the opportunity to research and write a 20,000 word dissertation on a topic relating to consultative supervision. You will learn about research methodology and then move on to do the dissertation itself. You will be allocated a personal supervisor to provide expert guidance, advice and support where necessary.

Learning and teaching methods

The delivery of the Masters is through blended learning, combining stimulating experiential weekends and home study which provides flexibility to working professionals. Study comprises of a combination of home study packs that are accessible online and attending six once-a-month two-day teaching sessions at the University of South Wales. On the block teaching sessions you will experience workshops demonstrating creative approaches to practice, skills practice in small groups and group presentations. MBA Masterclasses

For MBA Executive part time and distance learning students, you will be invited to attend a series of MBA masterclasses (five in total on Saturday’s 10-4pm) which would link to your modules.

The MBA Masterclasses are not a compulsory part of your study however, they give you the opportunity to enhance your study, meet with the module leader and network with fellow MBA students.

The module enables placement students (as future managers and leaders) to analyse the ways in which the design and organization of work places and spaces might influence organisational culture. The design and interior layout of buildings represent ‘the visible part of the culture of an organization’, with these spaces being representative of an organisation’s collective values, beliefs and behaviours.

Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Introductory Certificate

The CIM Introductory Certificate provides an internationally recognised qualification in marketing. We provide all the materials necessary to prepare you for this award as part of your course fees. In order to achieve this award, two CIM assessments must be successfully completed in addition to your MBA study.

PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner Award

PRINCE2® (Projects in Controlled Environments) is the internationally recognised project management programme. Online learning materials are provided as part of your course fees. Additional PRINCE2 assessment must be successfully completed in addition to your MBA study.

MBA Business Event

Students will have the opportunity to participate in the MBA business event (Brussels in 2014/15) in their first year. Students who choose to take an elective module(s) in Bradford or at one of our partner institutions will have a wider range of choices, including modules such as Mergers and Acquisitions, Management Consulting and Global Supply Chain Management. Up to three modules may be taken in this way at no extra cost.

The management project is an integral part of the Bradford MBA and is often the most challenging and rewarding part of the programme. At the end of the taught programme you put into practice what you have learnt by investigating and reporting on an important management issue or opportunity. If you are sponsored by your employer, the project can relate to your workplace.

Otherwise, you may choose to use the project to deepen your knowledge of a different sector or organisation, or as a stepping stone to your next job. The project findings and recommendations are then written up in a 9,000-word dissertation.

Throughout the project you will be guided by an experienced academic and you will have access to the School of Management Effective Learning department. The Effective Learning service often proves to be very useful providing students with a clear understanding and guidelines on what is required in order to successfully complete their project.

Learning activities and assessment

Students are expected to take two subjects (modules) every three months.

Each module contains nine study units. Students typically progress by studying one unit from each module per week. This equates to approximately 14-16 hours of study per week. If you don't think that you have enough time to study two modules over the three month period you can always chose to study just one module, lightening your workload considerably.

If work or family life is particularly busy then you can even suspend your studies and restart at a later date. This flexibility means that students can complete a distance learning MBA in 2 to 6 years. We do however strongly advise that students study two modules every three months.

Study Abroad

You may decide you want to accelerate your studies, learn about a particular subject area, study alongside other University of Bradford School of Management students or simply broaden your horizons and spend some time studying overseas. You can do this by undertaking up to three block modules (i.e. 3-5 days of intensive study) at no extra cost (other than travel, accommodation and subsistence) at the School of Management or at any one of our partner institutions in Dubai and Singapore.

Career support and prospects

The University is committed to helping students develop and enhance employability and this is an integral part of many programmes. Specialist support is available throughout the course from Career and Employability Services including help to find part-time work while studying, placements, vacation work and graduate vacancies. Students are encouraged to access this support at an early stage and to use the extensive resources on the Careers website.

Discussing options with specialist advisers helps to clarify plans through exploring options and refining skills of job-hunting. In most of our programmes there is direct input by Career Advisers into the curriculum or through specially arranged workshops.

An MBA is an opportunity to either change career direction or consolidate experience then return and progress in a previous industry or job. The Financial Times Global MBA rankings show that, on average, 20% of alumni achieve board-level positions within three years of graduation.

On completion of the programme participants go into a wide variety of functions and sectors, including IT/Telecoms, Finance & Banking and Industry being amongst the most popular.

The MA in the Study of Contemporary Pakistan provides a comprehensive and critical approach to Pakistan: its complex and vibrant culture, politics, economics, law, religious history and current trends. SOAS hosts one of the biggest concentration of research and teaching staff who specialise on Pakistan related topics. You will have an opportunity to interact and work closely with them. The Programme of Study will introduce you to the latest research topics, methods and debates in the field. It will prepare you to critically assess the diverse complexities of one of the most reported on countries in the world.

Structure

The programme will consist of three course units (1 core + 2 options) and a dissertation.

The core course (Imagining Pakistan) will introduce the main topics, approaches and possible lines of enquiry for a cultural history of Pakistan from 1947 to the present.

Students will choose two courses from a list of options that includes courses on modern Muslim thinkers and Contemporary Islamism in South Asia, Law and Society in South Asia, Urdu language, and Urdu literature in Pakistan.

Students will also write a 10,000 dissertation on the Study of Contemporary Pakistan, applying and developing the knowledge acquired in the core courses to an independent topic of research.

Faculty of Languages and Cultures

Six of the academic departments are devoted to teaching and research in the languages, literatures and cultures of Africa, China and Inner Asia, Japan and Korea, the Near and Middle East, South Asia, and South East Asia, with the seventh teaching and conducting research in Linguistics. The Language Centre caters to the needs of non-degree students and governmental and non-governmental organisations. It maintains a huge portfolio of courses, including year-long diploma programmes, weekly evening classes in about 40 different African and Asian languages, and tailored intensive one-to-one courses. The Language Centre also offers courses in French, Portuguese and Spanish.

Their teaching is in three main areas:
- language competence acquisition;

- textual and cultural studies - both comparative and language-specific, and covering not only 'literature' in a strict sense but also visual media, performance, folklore, translation etc.;

- language studies with linguistics at its core - including the prestigious Hans Rausing Endangered Languages Project.

Interests include global education, critical inquiry, food, health, environment, and inquiry into practice.

The Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy offers a PhD concentration and MA and MEd specializations in Home Economics Education, along with a secondary Teacher Education (BEd) major and Diploma in Home Economics Education.

Students may enroll in full-time or part-time on-campus programs or they may join the completely online masters in Home Economics and Everyday Life (HEEL) administered by Professional Development and Community Engagement (PDCE). This is a part-time program that allows students to complete a MEd in Home Economic Education from any where in the world without leaving home.

The MRes is a new programme of study, appropriate for all those seeking to further their knowledge of religion through multidisciplinary study and research. It is aimed at individuals with keen research skills who are interested to explore particular aspects of religious traditions by means of rigorous academic study. Students on the programme are required to first complete three taught modules of 20 credits each, making up a total of 60 credits. They then complete a research dissertation of 30,000 words, worth a further 120 credits.

Course Overview

The programme places particular emphasis on contemporary religions. It aims to enable in-depth analytical engagement with different traditions in a manner that is free, fair, accurate and open to discussion and debate. Students are encouraged to explore not just the theoretical, but also the practical, lived aspects of religious faith and practice in different contexts. Staff members contributing to the programme have backgrounds in sociology, anthropology, and religious studies, and work on traditions from different parts of the world including South Asian, Afro-Carribbean and Latin American, Western European and North American contexts.

The programme can be completed via either full-time or part-time study, and is available in distance-learning (home-based learning) format. All module content is available through the University’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and students are supported throughout their studies through regular access to their module tutors, on a one-to-one basis (by email, skype, phone), in groups (using media such as Skype), or via VLE module discussion forums.

An annual residential graduate summer school is held for all students in July when participants attend lectures and seminars covering issues related to both generic and subject-specific learning, and engage with other research students at this University.

We suggest you plan to spend about ten hours a week studying the course material for the MSc.

There is some attendance required at the university for UK-based students:

•An induction day, as you start the course, to introduce you to the programme team, the study facilities available to you, and to induct you into the course requirements and patterns
of study

•Two study days per year of study, where you may have small group tutorials about the assignments, do some further study in groups, or sit a study day assessment, depending on the module

•If you choose the independent prescribing option in the diploma stage this is taught partly by face-to-face teaching at DMU over 11 study days and two assessment days

Assessments for home students involves written pieces of coursework plus some assessments on the study days e.g. presentations and short answer paper written assessments. Some of the assessments involve completing GPhC CPD cycles relating to the learning done on the course. Others require you to study a patient’s care in depth, accessing their medical records and critiquing their clinical pharmacy care.

International students will complete all their studies online via BlackBoard. Many of the assessments will also be completed online.

Expertise:

We have a dedicated team of staff who contribute to the course. The programme and module leaders are all registered, practising pharmacists, and have experience in the hospital, community, primary care and prescribing areas of pharmacy practice. MSc supervisors are drawn from the Leicester School of Pharmacy and local community and hospital pharmacists who can support you in your project. We also use a team of expert pharmacists and doctors who contribute to the development of the course material and assessments on the study days.

The programme provides teaching and research training at the postgraduate level in the history of science, technology and medicine (HSTM). It includes training in the research skills necessary for those who wish to go on to study for a PhD in the field, but is also designed for students who wish simply to study at the postgraduate level. Students are introduced to general themes and approaches to HSTM in a team-taught, programme-specific compulsory module. This explores the development of STM, its implications for history in general, and the historiographical and methodological issues that arise in studying it. Optional modules offer in-depth training in particular aspects of HSTM in different periods and places, with the opportunity to use primary sources where appropriate.

Study Options

You will study this course through a combination of video conferenced seminars and learning through the UHI virtual learning environment (VLE), with support from your tutors and student advisor.

Students, including international students, can study at Orkney College UHI or from their own locations, studying online and by video conference, in real-time or recordings.

An online induction will be offered at the start of your course.

Do you want to immerse yourself in the works and plays of Shakespeare?

The Shakespeare Institute's MA in Shakespeare and Education is a unique, modular programme that is particularly appropriate for practicing teachers, offering the opportunity to enhance expertise in different aspects of Shakespeare’s work. Throughout the programme you will be incorporating the study of Shakespeare's plays in performance and adaptation. You can study this programme on campus or by distance learning.

This programme offers you the opportunity to enhance your expertise in different aspects of Shakespeare's work, while maintaining a pedagogical focus.

You will study three core modules:

Shakespeare and Pedagogy
Shakespeare’s Theatre
Research Skills

The flexible structure of this course allows study in a wide variety of ways, on a full- or part-time basis. Modules are available to study through a variety of routes that may include:

Three long weekends at the Shakespeare Institute at approximately monthly intervals
One day a week throughout a semester at the Shakespeare Institute (ten days).
Distance-learning option via online study
One intensive week for the Shakespeare and Pedagogy module, delivered before the Easter holidays

Full-time study is on site in Stratford-upon-Avon and part-time students can choose to study the whole programme either on-site, primarily by online distance learning or a combination of the two. The schedule of delivery allows access to all modules through a range of modes over any three-year period, although some are not available to study via distance learning. The compulsory Pedagogy module, which is co-taught with the Royal Shakespeare Company, must be studied on-site due to its interactive nature.

Do you want to immerse yourself in the works of Shakespeare? Are you interested in understanding how Shakespeare’s plays work in performance?

This innovative Shakespeare Institute programme allows you to study the performance history but also the way in which Shakespeare’s plays have been performed through history, up to the modern moment. It encourages a historical approach to interpretation and styles of presentation and it promotes the value of close reading as the basis for evaluating the plays on the page, stage, and screen. You will have the opportunity to look at different productions and adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays in their historical, political, and cultural contexts and to think about the performance choices actors and directors make when approaching Shakespeare’s texts. You can also study how the textual history of Shakespeare’s plays influences performance today.

You can study on campus (full-time or part-time) or by distance learning (part-time only).

You will study two core modules:

Shakespeare’s Theatre
Research Skills

You will also choose four optional modules. Each module is assessed by one 4,000-word essay with the exception of: Research Skills which is assessed by 2 shorter assignments; and Shakespeare and Theatre Practice which is assessed by either two performance assignments and a 2,000-word research paper, or by one 4,000-word research paper. While completing all six taught modules will lead to a Diploma-level qualification, MA students will also complete a 15,000-word dissertation.
