Programme Structure

Our MSc in International Management is an intensive full-time programme lasting 12 months. The programme is divided into two 11-week semesters of taught content, and the summer period, where you can choose between a research dissertation and the practice track. The dissertation gives you an opportunity to undertake a substantive piece of independent research that matches your own academic interests. The practice track is designed to allow you to apply learned concepts and theories to the practical problems and issues of a company, and it will allow you to undertake a number of tasks, both working in teams and working individually.

In Semester 1 you will study four compulsory units and one optional unit. The compulsory units are:
-The Global Environment of Business (spans both semesters)
-International Business Strategy
-Cross-Cultural Management
-Analysing International Management

The optional units include: Business Ethics; International Relations Theories; Global Marketing; Entrepreneurship and Innovation; The European Union as a Global Economic Actor

For students with advanced understanding of a particular language, you can also choose a language module: French, German or Spanish, delivered by the University’s Foreign Languages Centre

In Semester 2 you will study one compulsory units and four optional units: The compulsory unit is:

Summer period

During the summer period you will be able to choose between two tracks: (1) dissertation track and (2) practice track. Both tracks allow you to demonstrate critical insight and reflective thinking about business/management/policy issues. The tracks also help develop your written and presentation skills, and your ability to develop effective arguments. All of these attributes are transferable skills relevant to the workplace and your future career.

Dissertation track

The dissertation track gives you the opportunity to do a piece of substantial work on your own, demonstrating originality, innovation, drive, and determination. The dissertation also enables you to plan and execute your own project, giving you complete choice and flexibility.

Practice track

The practice track allows you to undertake a number of tasks, both working in teams with other members of your cohort and working individually. The practice track is designed to allow you to apply learned concepts and theories to practical problems and issues, including a management problem which will be presented to you by an organisation. This track also provides opportunities for gaining practical experience in running team projects.

BMT Hi-Q Sigma to present Case Week Project

BMT Hi-Q Sigma, a Management Consultancy providing advice and insight across Government, Defence, Energy and Transport industries, will present a business problem to practice track students as part of Case Week in June.

You will then have two weeks to propose your own solutions to the problem, using the skills and knowledge gained during the programme, under guidance from your supervisors. The week will culminate with presentations to BMT Hi-Q Sigma.

It is a key element of oil, gas and mineral exploration, environmental and archaeological assessment, and engineering site investigation.

This course prepares you to embark on a career in resource exploration, environmental and engineering geophysics. Running for over 50 years it is well-established and has strong links to industry. Format

This course is suitable for the working professional as it is taught online, by distance learning. The flexible structure of the course allows a choice of study routes depending on discipline and professional needs. The vocational nature of the course allows the graduate to use the skills and knowledge obtained to steer their career advancement. Apart from the masters degree, students can study four modules for a Postgraduate Certificate or eight modules for a Postgraduate Diploma.

Teaching will be delivered through the University's online virtual learning environment, Campus Moodle, allowing students to interact with tutors and fellow students around the world. Online study allows for a diverse range of teaching and learning methods to be employed including interactive online discussions (including tutor-student and student-student interaction), and all supported by a dedicated technical team. Our supported distance learning mode of delivery allows you to study online from any location and is designed to fit in around your work commitments. Assessment methods

The course is largely assessed by way of coursework which can be completed remotely.

There is now a portfolio of assessments for the first stage – which tests students knowledge and skills in a range of different ways but which is largely undertaken in the University’s online teaching environment. This portfolio does include one closed book exam for each of the arbitration and adjudication routes (and two over two years for the "joint" route (Route C), however. This is to be sat at a venue which is arranged by the student – with the support of the University.

The second stage is assessed by way coursework submissions in answer to questions posed by teaching staff and the third stage requires submission of a 15,000 word dissertation.

With its practical perspective and recognition from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), this course provides a professionally recognised qualification. This course is specifically designed to give students a broad overview of the synthesis, structure and properties of inorganic materials together with in-depth coverage of the main groups of ceramic materials and allows you further specialisation when it comes to choosing your personal research project.

Radioactive nuclear waste and disposal

Our £3million advanced nuclear materials research facility provides a high-quality environment for research on radioactive waste and disposal. Our unique thermomechanical compression and arbitrary strain path equipment is used for simulation of hot deformation.

Characterisation

You’ll have access to newly refurbished array of microscopy and analysis equipment, x-ray facilities, and surface analysis techniques covering state-of-the-art XPS and SIMS. There are also laboratories for cell and tissue culture, and facilities for measuring electrical, magnetic and mechanical properties.

The Kroto Research Institute and the Nanoscience and Technology Centre enhance our capabilities in materials fabrication and characterisation, and we have a computer cluster for modelling from the atomistic through nano and mesoscopic to the macroscopic.

The MA in Applied Linguistics for English Language Teaching programme is aimed at students with little or no teaching experience, who want to improve their understanding of linguistics as applied to English Language teaching.

This programme will enable you to join the English language teaching community around the world in higher education, in private language schools and colleges, and, with an appropriate teaching qualification (dependent upon the regulations of the country in which you wish to teach), you may also be able teach in state schools.

On this MA programme, you will learn the basic methods and theories of language teaching and language learning, which will provide a base from which you can then specialise in a number of areas according to your interests: optional modules allow you to specialise in curriculum design and materials evaluation, to focus on educational technologies and software, to explore the teaching of English in professional and academic contexts, or, for those with a non-language undergraduate degree, to work on some of the fundamentals of English language, grammar and vocabulary.

Multimedia Language Resource Centre

You will have access to the Language Learning Centre, which has three computerised multimedia language learning laboratories. This 12-month course (starts in October) is suitable for graduates with experience in disciplines of biology, life sciences or engineering who wish to develop their understanding of the application of Nanotechnology in healthcare and to undergo training in experimental design and experimental practice in a novel research topic.

Modules

The Nanomedicine programme is modular and structured in three levels, each building on the next. You can elect to take either the full Master's programme or the Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma, depending on need and circumstances.

The programme is designed to allow you to complete either as full time or part time study. For part-time students, each of the three components are scheduled to take a year each to complete.

It focuses on cutting edge topics from ambient recording through advanced non-linear techniques, to the evolving arena of surround sound mixing and recording, and encompassing multi-media work and interface design. Course detail

The course is based in studios of fully professional specification, and students will work on both digital and analogue consoles with access to state-of-the-art Pro Tools systems with hi-end plug-ins, along with other advanced technology such as analogue modular synthesizers, Kyma and Ambisonics.

Format

Modules comprise a combination of lectures, workshops, seminars and tutorials. There are also masterclasses from staff, visiting lecturers and practitioners.

Assessment

We assess modules in a variety of ways. Written work is usually in the form of essays, critical self-reflections and learning journals. Practical assessment varies according to the nature of the practice - for example, DVDs for surround recordings, CDs for audio, and some live installations or electro-acoustic performances. There are often at least two assignments for each module. There are no exams currently in the MA Advanced Music Technology course.

This exciting and challenging programme studies how data can be utilised to solve major business and societal challenges. The programme provides students with the knowledge, technical ability and skills for leadership roles in the fields of business analytics and data science.

Degree information

The programme is designed to give students multidisciplinary skills in computing (i.e. programming, big data), analytics (i.e. data mining, machine learning, computational statistics, complexity), and business analysis. Emphasis will be on business problem framing, leveraging data as a strategic asset, and communicating complex analytical results to stakeholders.

Students undertake modules to the value of 180 credits. The programme consists of five core modules (90 credits), two optional modules (30 credits) and a dissertation (60 credits).

Dissertation/report
During the summer students will undertake a work placement with a UCL industrial partner. The research and data analysis conducted during this placement will form the basis of a 10,000-word dissertation.

Teaching and learning
The programme is delivered through a combination of lectures by world-class academics and industry leaders, seminars, workshops, tutorials and project work. The programme comprises two terms of taught material, followed by examinations and then a project. Assessment is through unseen written examinations, coursework and the dissertation.
