Our MA Education has been designed to provide content and context that relates directly to the work of educational professionals in their settings including schools, colleges, universities and public sector organisations. All content and assignments are work-related, enabling you to consider the latest theoretical underpinning for the subject area selected relating to your work.

The MA Education (Additional Learning Needs) has two pathways. There are generic SEN/ALN modules or, candidates may elect to study the specific British Dyslexia Association accredited modules to achieve the Approved Teacher Status (ATS) and then the Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA) awards.

The MA Education has been designed to meet the requirements of the Welsh Government’s priorities for education and caters for a wide range of professionals who are involved in delivering education in a variety of organisations and related settings. Partners involved in the design of this programme included: local authorities; FE colleges; voluntary and community organisations, nurse educators; headteachers; teachers and current students.

Whatever setting you come from, you will be challenged to extend your thinking about the subjects you select, deepen your understanding of the content and theoretical foundations of the area and, be encouraged to reflect critically upon how this will impact on your practice. All assignments will be context related to enable you to implement many of the ideas discussed and to evaluate their success.

Our specialist course will equip you with the knowledge to understand the behaviour of both naturally occurring and synthetic water soluble polymers at the molecular level, and how this influences their bulk behaviour. Lectures are reinforced and expanded by study of real-life polymer systems in the laboratory.

The lectures and workshops are designed to train you in understanding polymer molecules themselves, and the way they interact with each other, and with solvents, surfactants, particles and surfaces.

You will:
-Study the basic principles of polymer characterisation through a range of analytical techniques including FT-IR, UV-vis, NMR, ESR and fluorescence spectroscopy.
-Master the measurement of molar mass distribution using gel permeation chromatography with multi angle laser light scattering (GPC-MALLS), and gel electrophoresis.
-Use particle sizing techniques such as digital imaging and laser diffraction to measure aggregates, flocs and emulsion droplets.
-Discover Green Chemistry - exploring a whole range of biopolymers extracted from natural resources….including antimicrobial polymers from shellfish waste, gelling agents from seaweed, and oligosaccharides from locally grown grasses.
-Learn about man-made polymers and importantly, chemically modified biopolymers.
-Measure the viscosity and rheology of liquid formulations and see how this can be interpreted to yield structural information on thickened systems and gels.
-A module in research methods provides training in all aspects of undertaking research, from project management, through data analysis and statistics to communicating your results and writing your dissertation to ensure you are well equipped to undertake your project.

RESEARCH PROJECT
The course culminates in an industry-focussed Research Project. For full-time students this may be partly or wholly undertaken within a local manufacturing company. For part-time students the project provider may be your current employer. The Research Project gives you the opportunity to undertake a piece of novel research, and will often be based around solving a polymer application /characterisation problem for the project provider. It allows you to put into practice the knowledge and skills gained in the taught elements of the course.

The programme of study is made up of theory and practice based learning. This allows registered nurses and midwives to enhance their professional skills to a specialist level in one of the two routes offered.

The design of the course is grounded in public health practice. This is in keeping with its overall aim and the statutory requirements set down by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC 2004).

This 52 week full-time (or part-time equivalent) programme comprises 22.5 weeks of theoretical study and 22.5 weeks of learning in the practice setting under the supervision of a Practice Teacher and specialist mentor. This full time route comprises 2 days attendance at Wrexham Glyndŵr University, 2 days in practice and 1 study day per week during term time.

The course is funded by the Welsh Government and entry on to the programme is through joint application and interview by the sponsoring NHS Trust and Glyndwr University.

Key Course Features

-Successful completion of the programme enables you to register on Part III of the NMC register and practise as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse.
-The course includes the Community Nurse Prescribing V100 programme (integrated in the Specialist Practice modules) which you will be able to record with the NMC.

Health Visiting is a diverse, satisfying and challenging role that involves bonding with families over time. It suits nurses and midwives with an interest in health promotion, public health and working in the community.

Health visitors are best placed to help families and young children. In fact, a growing body of evidence underlines the importance of the role in the first few years of a person's life and in recognition of these facts the Welsh Government have currently increased the recruitment numbers for Health Visitor training. The English Government have also increased recruitment of health visitors and therefore employment prospects with NHS Employers are good.

School nurses provide a variety of services such as providing health and sex education within schools, carrying out developmental screening, undertaking health interviews and administering immunisation programmes. School nurses can be employed by the local health authority, community NHS providers or by a school directly.

Wexham Glyndwr University is the only provider within North Wales which offers the MSc Health and Social Care (Community Specialist Practice) programme which covers the District Nursing qualification. Read more
Wexham Glyndwr University is the only provider within North Wales which offers the MSc Health and Social Care (Community Specialist Practice) programme which covers the District Nursing qualification.

The course is designed for qualified nurses who hold a current registration as a nurse (part 1) with the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council Register (equivalent to parts 1 or 12 of the NMC Register). The programme enables the student to qualify as a District Nurse and record the qualification with the NMC.

An attractive feature of the programme is that the Post Graduate Diploma element of the courses can be taken full time for 1 year (self-funded) or part time over 2 years (possibility of Welsh Government funding if you work in Wales) or flexibly by a module by module approach (over 4 years).

The Post Graduate Diploma (Level 7) is open to students who hold a minimum of 120 credits at level 6.

This course is ideally suited to anyone seeking to develop a career within the expanding Criminal/Community Justice setting and those wishing to explore areas of particular interest. What Will You Study?

FULL-TIME STUDY (SEPTEMBER INTAKE)
The taught element, Part One, of the programmes will be delivered in two 12 week trimesters and each trimester has a loading of 60 credits.

You will cover six taught modules which include lectures, tutorials and practical work on a weekly basis. The expected timetable per module will be a total of 200 hours, which includes 40 hours of scheduled learning and teaching hours and 160 independent study hours.

Part Two will then take a further 15 weeks having a notional study time of 600 hours. During this time the student will be responsible for managing his/her time in consultation with an academic supervisor.

FULL-TIME MODE (JANUARY INTAKE)
For the January intake, students will study the three specialist modules first during the second trimester from January to May. The three core modules will be studied in the first trimester of the next academic year from September to January.

On successful completion of the taught element of the programme the students will progress to Part Two, MSc dissertation to be submitted in April/May.

PART-TIME MODE
The taught element, part one, of the programmes will be delivered over two academic teaching years. 80 credits or equivalent worth of modules will be delivered in the first year and 40 credits or equivalent in the second year. The part time students would join the full time delivery with lectures and tutorials/practical work during one day on a weekly basis.

Working closely with the Chartered Institute of Personnel an Development (CIPD), the programme has aligned its module structure to the CIPD’s Advanced Diploma and created flexible study options including distance and blended learning. The course is relevant for Human Resource Management professionals in all types of organisation within the UK and internationally and aimed at experienced middle or senior level managers or HR professionals. Consequently they are likely to have relevant work experience as well as hold appropriate formal educational qualifications suitable for a Masters programme.

What Will You Study?

The module structure is closely aligned to the CIPD's Advanced Diploma. The advantage of this is that students are now able to take individual modules, to study for Continuous professional Development purposes. If a student took their CIPD qualification some time ago and wants to refresh knowledge and skills in particular subject areas this is now possible.

Or if a student began their studies and haven't finished all the modules in order to finish their studies and need to complete individuals modules to upgrade to Chartered Membership they can. It also means that for those students taking the full programme only two modules will be studied and completed per trimester supporting students in being able to differentiate the subjects and regularly review their progress during the programme. It also means that students can join in January as well as the start of the normal academic year (subject to viability of cohort)

The dissertation which has been the mainstay of the Masters programme is being replaced with a Research for Publication module. Students will be working towards the development of a publishable journal article. Although publication is not guaranteed, the aim is that each year Wrexham Glyndŵr University will see some of the MA HRM Programme students leave, not only with their Master's Qualification but also with a published journal article to add to their CV. Distance Learning Students will be able to perform Oral Assessments, Simulations and Practical assessments using web conferencing platforms where required.

For online assessments to be possible Distance Learning Students must have a webcam, microphone, headset and direct high-speed internet connection. Students are responsible for ensuring that their computer system and internet connection will support the web conferencing platform prior to any assessment. Other admission requirements

Both the Distance Learning and Blended Learning modes of the programme have been designed to be very flexible – meaning that students can generally fit their work around their study. The Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma are a mix of both academic and vocational study and assessments are focused on individual research and work experience. It is therefore considered advantageous for a student to be in employment throughout their study, although students may apply their learning to an organization with which they are familiar.

A student must also satisfy one, or a combination of, the following criteria:
-An initial degree of Glyndŵr University, or another University approved degree awarding body.
-A non-graduate qualification which the University deemed to be of satisfactory standard for the purpose of postgraduate admission.
-Relevant work experience that is deemed to compensate the lack of formal qualifications and have held a position of management responsibility for a minimum of two years.

A student who has already achieved the current or previous CIPD Advanced Diploma may be given permission to proceed directly onto Year 3. Students with other qualifications may also be considered for full or part exemption from the programme in line with Glyndŵr University’s RPL criteria.

With children and young people developing sophisticated IT skills even earlier, they expect teachers to use this technology to help them learn. Our online course is designed to match that expectation. Technology is now being used in all education sectors to enhance learning, meaning the onus is on practitioners to develop their skills and use them to support learners and learning within their professional practice.

You'll explore a range of technologies and learning methods across a range of environments ad consider how they can most effectively be used to enhance teaching.

By experiencing the use of these technologies within their own area of study, learners will develop an understanding and appreciation of how they can be used within their own practice.Upon completion you'll have the skills and knowledge to be leading exponents of technology enhanced learning.

-The programme is delivered entirely online and is accessible to students from countries all over the world.

What Will You Study?

Each module makes use of a study calendar and content provided through on-line documents, podcasts, video, synchronous and asynchronous conferencing (using text, audio and video), blogs, wiki pages, web links, file sharing and social networking facilities. Participants also take part in activities which involve them using these technologies to collaborate, share reflections and to construct elements of e-learning material that they can evaluate for use within their own professional context.

By experiencing the use of these technologies within their own study, learners gain an understanding and appreciation of how these could be deployed in their own teaching and gain an insight into the nature of on-line study from the perspective of the student.

Tutors (or ‘coaches’) aim to provide a secure and supportive environment within which participants can explore areas of TEL appropriate to their own professional context. Participants are encouraged to participate in forum debates and to develop communities of practice.

Participants learn with and from each other and are supported as they develop independent skills in finding and evaluating information. In all modules participants are encouraged to relate their studies to their own professional context. Assignments are also rooted in professional practice.

MODULES
YEAR 1
The first year’s study comprises three 20 credit modules. Successful completing of these three modules constitutes the Postgraduate Certificate Learning and Technology:
-Pedagogy and Practice
-Technology and Design
-Implementation and Management

YEAR 2
The second year’s study comprises three 20 credit modules. Successful completing of these three modules constitutes the Postgraduate Diploma Learning and Technology:
-Innovation and Practice
-Accessibility and Assessment in the Digital Age
-E-research and digital scholarship

YEAR 3
The final year consists of the 60 credit research dissertation. Students will be allocated a supervisor, with appropriate research or subject expertise, to support them throughout the process of carrying out the research and writing the dissertation.
Students have the opportunity to submit for assessment either a ‘traditional’ dissertation or a journal-format article. The dissertation / journal-format article is an independent study, involving the collection and analysis of data from primary sources, carried out by individual students on a topic of their choice.

Modules are designated as core or option in accordance with professional body requirements and internal academic framework review, so may be subject to change.

Assessment and Teaching

All modules, with the exception of the dissertation are assessed through coursework. Each module normally has two assignments and these are designed to reflect the professional practice of the student.
