Students learn how to develop and market food products whose typical features are the result of various factors such as geographical origin, history and the culture of a country or region. Harper Adams has been involved in the education and training of food industry undergraduates and graduates for many years. Selected by a European consortium of universities to be their UK partner institution Harper Adams offers a PgC in Agricultural Management for the Food Supply Industries to students enrolled on the European Masters in regional Food Production and Global Marketing and spending a proportion of their studies at Harper Adams. This PgC award forms part of the European MSc programme which is awarded and managed by ESA University in Angers, France. Harper Adams is very proud to be part of the European Masters in Regional Food Production Global Marketing course to its portfolio. The course is a jointly delivered programme with Honk Kong Baptist Unversity leading to a joint award of both universities.

Assessment

The programme involves a taught and a project component. The taught programme is assessed by a mixture of coursework assignments throughout the year, and by examinations in May and June.

Once these are completed, students then work full time on the Marketing Report. This provides an opportunity to apply the techniques and insights presented in the programme and apply them to a particular problem area.

Programme Structure

The MSc degree in Marketing is an intensive full-time programme lasting 12 months. The programme is divided into two 11-week semesters of taught content, and the summer period, where you can choose between a research dissertation and the practice track. The dissertation allows you to focus on a specific aspect of marketing that is interesting to you, using theory and robust research methods to investigate and generate a much deeper understanding of this area of interest. The dissertation track gives you the opportunity to do a piece of substantial work on your own, demonstrating originality, innovation, drive, and determination. The dissertation also enables you to plan and execute your own project, giving you complete choice and flexibility.

The practice track allows you to undertake a number of tasks, both working in teams with other members of your cohort and working individually. The practice track is designed to allow you to apply learned concepts and theories to practical problems and issues, including a management problem which will be presented to you by an organisation. This track also provides opportunities for gaining practical experience in running team projects.

Both tracks allow you to demonstrate critical insight and reflective thinking about business/management/policy issues. The tracks also help develop your written and presentation skills, and your ability to develop effective arguments. All of these attributes are transferable skills relevant to the workplace and your future career.

Teaching & Learning Methods

You will be exposed to a variety of teaching and learning methods that could include: interactive lectures, case studies, seminar presentations and group project work. As this is a Masters level course, we place a significant emphasis on independent, directed, private study that is often conducted in learning sets or groups.

Assessment

A variety of individual and group assessment methods are used throughout the degree including exams, coursework essays, reports and presentations.

Professional Qualifications

The programme carries exemptions from the Chartered Institute of Marketing exams and has links with the Market Research Society and the Institute of Direct Marketing (IDM). Learning activities and assessment

Teaching on the full-time programme involves a combination of formal lectures, group discussions, tutorials, seminars and directed reading. Generally the programmes aim to integrate applied and theoretical knowledge with assessment processes that test both knowledge of the disciplines plus their application and limitations. Each course represents approximately 100 hours of study time, of which typically 24 hours is contact time with the course tutor(s)and the remaining 76 hours is made up of pre-reading, directed reading, preparatory work and assessment.

Candidates are required to complete one pre-requisite course in the pre-term, seven core courses and four elective courses offered in the regular terms within one year. Each course equals to three credit units. The pre-requisite course and seven core courses are offered by the MSc Program in Marketing. For the elective courses, candidates may choose at most six (6) units of courses offered by the MSc Program in Marketing or courses offered by other MSc programs in CUHK Business School and the MSSc Program in Advertising offered by the School of Journalism and Communication, upon the approval of the Program Director. Course detail

Team projects provide opportunities for students to apply their newly developed skills in real world situations. Project clients have included Fortune 500 companies, national and regional firms, public sector organizations, non-profits, and start-ups.

The MSM program requires 30 hours of coursework, with the expectation that the degree can be completed in two semesters.

The MA International Fashion Marketing brings together two disciplines for which Regent’s is internationally renowned – fashion and marketing – to provide future fashion marketing managers and directors with the practical and intellectual skills to lead and succeed in the vibrant and fast-changing fashion industry.
