The Public Policy & Ageing MA is a multi-disciplinary course that covers policy making and analysis, specifically how the state addresses the challenges that arise in economic, social, political and health arenas.

The Ageing & Society course offers you great flexibility, with the choice to study either full or part-time and two pathways of study available; one channel focuses on quantitative research methods and data analysis while the other concentrates on qualitative research and data analysis. You will study the module Population, Ageing & Policy, plus a range of required and optional modules depending on your choice of pathway.
The MA, MSc pathway requires modules with a minimum total of 180 credits and a maximum of 185 credits to complete the course, with 60 credits coming from a dissertation of around 10,000-12,000 words.
If you are studying full-time, you will complete the course in one year, from September to September. If you are studying for the MA, MSc qualification part-time, your course will take two years to complete; you will be expected to take Population Ageing & Policy, Designing Quantitative Research and a 15-20 credit optional module in year one, with the remaining modules taken in year two.
While it is broadly aimed at social scientists, students include those in the social and natural sciences, management, policy and politics, law, and humanities as well as those from other disciplines such as allied health and social care professionals including nurses, social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians and others fro health backgrounds.

Lectures, seminars and feedback: The total contact time for each 15-credit taught module is 10-15 hours. These sessions will include lectures, teacher-led and student-led group discussions based on the main areas of study.

The world's first distance learning MSc in Clinical Neurology, is led by experts based at Queen Square in London, a world-renowned centre for clinical neurology and neuroscience, and delivered fully online. This programme will enrich and enhance the knowledge and portfolio of doctors with an interest in neurology.
All students will learn the fundamentals of neurological diseases, including stroke, epilepsy, movement disorders, headaches, dementia demyelinating, inflammatory and infectious disorders, and neoplasms of CNS.

Teaching and learning is delivered through online sessions with a multimedia approach and interactive features such as videos, interactive graphs and tables, as well as illustrations and text. The dissertation provides the opportunity for the student to undertake an extended piece of scholarship in an area of personal interest and is undertaken in the last few months of the programme.
The online teaching is complemented by a two week period of face-to-face teaching each year. This builds on the online content and provides practical clinical training. This teaching is currently delivered in four sites across the world: India, Nigeria, Uganda and Egypt. Attendance provides the unique opportunity to travel and view the practice of Family Medicine in other countries whilst meeting and learning from fellow students.
In addition there is the opportunity to participate in a 30 days clinical internship following completion of the Masters qualification. This is an optional activity aimed at providing additional clinical experience to those who have completed the course.

Our MSc in Physician Associate Studies is delivered within the University’s Institute of Medical Sciences at the Medway campus where students have the added benefit of training in a specialist facility with qualified medical practitioners engaged in postgraduate education and research.
You will spend a significant portion of the first year in the simulation suite learning hands on skills. The simulation suite is equipped with mock wards as well as a surgical suite with anesthesia and laparoscopic equipment. Highly sophisticated human simulation models will be used in the teaching of hands on skills to prepare you for your second year clinical based modules.
The Physician Associate role was introduced in the UK in 2003. Physician Associates are now recognised as skilled and valued members of the health care profession. The newly qualified Physician Associate post has been evaluated under the NHS Agenda for change at Band 7 with potential to advance to Band 8 with experience and advanced education.
Physician Associates can perform medical history and physical examinations, screen and interpret results of diagnostic studies, diagnose patients, implement treatment plans, counsel patients regarding illness and preventative medicine and facilitate access to appropriate health care resources.
As with many types of medical providers, duties of a Physician Associate will depend on the medical setting where they work, their level of experience, their specialty and their supervising physician.

he Physician Associate curriculum begins with a year of rigorous medical science, pharmacology and clinical reasoning taught by a qualified team of specialist physicians and Physicians Associates. One day per week in the first year is spent in a general practice clinical setting. The second year is comprised of six specialist clinical placements and intensive classroom teaching in advanced skills and concepts.
Upon successful completion of the MSc in Physician Associate Studies*, you are eligible to take the National Exam for Physician Associates and be part of the Physician Associate Managed Voluntary Registry (PAMVR) which allows you to be employed by the NHS. The profession is currently working towards regulation in the UK and is overseen by the Royal College of Physicians Physician Associate Faculty.
All modules are taught using a combination of teaching methods, including lectures, problem based learning, short case review and hand on/skills practice.
Lecture, practice based learning, case review and skills application are incorporated in each module to ensure students assimilate clinical knowledge and skills in all areas.

Our population is ageing: This is well recognised, as is the fact that older people, in particular those living with frailty, are best supported through a holistic, person centred and community based approach to care. There is therefore a pressing need to enable primary and community care clinicians to develop the enhanced clinical, managerial and leadership skills required to support the delivery of safe, effective, compassionate and integrated care for older people, unhindered by traditional professional and organisational boundaries.
This course allows students to study the latest concepts in frailty and integrated care, in a multi-professional, multi-agency and community focused context. The course covers the definition, epidemiology, concepts and models of frailty in primary care and at transitions of care. It goes on to consider the clinical management of frailty, including specialist clinical interventions, medicines management, and legal and ethical aspects. The course also identifies and addresses key leadership and management themes important in the development, commissioning and management of integrated services for older people with frailty, allowing students to study these crucial concepts in a practically based and interactive manner.
This programme has been developed in collaboration with Shropshire Doctors Co-operative Ltd., GP First and the British Geriatrics Society.
The aim of the course is to help primary and community care clinicians to develop skills that will motivate, empower and enable them to enhance their contribution to the delivery of high quality and effective integrated care for older people living with frailty in our communities.
This course recognises that clinicians require a unique combination of knowledge, skills and experience to support the delivery of enhanced primary and community care services for older people with frailty, particularly in seeking to provide person centred and integrated care that overcomes traditional professional and organisational boundaries.
This course is designed to develop these skills and to empower clinicians to be confident in their holistic approach to the complex issues associated with delivering care to older people with frailty.
Clinicians who complete these course will be ideally placed not only to take on currently available enhanced clinical roles in this area, but also to take up new opportunities emerging through the transformational change in service delivery being driven by the New Care Models and the NHS Five Year Forward View.
It will therefore benefit GPs at any stage of their careers, Nurse Practitioners and Community Matrons in general or specialist roles in Primary Care or Community Trusts and Allied Health Professionals working in this area; in other words, a range of primary and community care clinicians enthusiastic to develop their skills and capabilities in this area.
The course is divided into modules, each attracting 15 M-level credits. The modules then build up to a 120 credits diploma after two years if all the modules are completed. Students can go on to undertakie the final year research dissertation (60 credits) required to achieve the MMedSci should they so wish.
Some of the modules are face to face whilst others are partly online or portfolio based. The portfolio based modules include tutored supervision to guide the student's work.

Combined Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Magnetic Resonance (MR) is an imaging technology which allows information on metabolic function, physiology, and anatomy to be collected in a single scanning session for diagnostic and research purposes (e.g. investigating dementias & cancers).
PET-MR scanners are increasingly being installed in clinical and research settings, but currently training in how to run and best use such facilities is limited, often requiring long periods of residency, away from work and personal commitments at home.
The University of Edinburgh is among the few UK centres with a PET-MR scanner and personnel with the expertise in how to run and use it. This programme harnesses our expertise in imaging technology, which will allow learners to train in this field via an online learning environment.
