MSc Strategy & International Business will provide you with a rigorous and comprehensive understanding of strategy and international business issues, in both developed and emerging economies. With the increasing globalisation of business and the revolution in information and communications technologies, no company can afford to ignore the international dimension of strategy.

Most, if not all, companies require internationalisation strategies, be they simple export or franchising arrangements, or complex and risky international joint ventures and/or foreign direct investment. These activities all require an understanding of the international business environment, which you will gain by studying this programme.

The strategy component of this degree will give you the knowledge and skills required to analyse companies’ strategic situations and to solve complex strategic problems. The international business component of the degree will develop your ability to assess and develop internationalisation strategies and operations, as well as your skills in international and cross-cultural management.

The programme then concludes with a dissertation project.

Learning, teaching and assessment

You will be assessed through a mixture of examinations and coursework. You will also complete a year-long dissertation project, in collaboration with your selected supervisor, an expert in your chosen field. You can choose to undertake a specialist topic dissertation or a consultancy-based project. Both options can be based either in qualitative or quantitative data and primary or secondary (desk-based) data.

Personal Development
You will acquire skills in the following areas: giving presentations; team working; report writing; negotiation and IT skills.

Studying for the Berlin MBA means

... that you will get to know people from all over the world sharing one classroom with you: 84% of our graduates 2013 were coming from abroad and 16% from Germany. Despite the diversity of our study groups, there is one thing that unites them all and this is the motivation to give their career a different direction. And this is what our graduates 2013 achieved in terms of career change/transition: 50% changed position and industry, 27 % changed position in the same industry and 4% changed position within the same company. So all in all 81% of our graduates successfully achieved a career change.

What most of our international candidates intrigues about studying for an MBA in Germany and in Berlin is the opportunity to work for a company in Germany after graduation. Of our international graduates 2013 59% achieved this goal.
And here are some examples of career change/career transitions:

One of our graduates from Spain who was working as a research analyst is now working as a Regional Manager for a start-up company in Berlin. AMBA accredited MBA programme

MBA in Transatlantic Management

Be a part of the global study world

The Berlin full-time MBA in Transatlantic Management prepares for leadership or consulting roles in companies or organisations which operate in a transatlantic context. The pathway course content will focus on general international management issues with a particular focus on transatlantic issues. Students will learn about topics such as the North American Free Trade Agreement and the European Union and their implications for cross-border trade and foreign direct investment.

Certain forms of market entry such as licensing/franchising will receive particular attention. Important variations in business law and corporate governance standards on both sides of the Atlantic will be examined. Differences in business culture and general business practices in American and European companies will be elucidated.

The primary focus is on finding viable and feasible management solutions in real-life situations confronting cross-boarder-aware businesses and organisations.

To realise this goal effectively, business theory is always linked to best practices and placed in an intercultural context – a process that underscores how business activities are located within a social surround where overall economic and social factors play their part.

International Management, Strategy, and Finance

The International Management part of the module provides you with an understanding of the key activities and functions of contemporary business and management. The Strategy component focuses on developing knowledge around strategic management and how firms design and implement strategies at the international level. The Finance component will focus on developing an understanding about the role, importance, and sources of finance when conducting businesses internationally.

Leadership and People Management

Develops an understanding about the role of leadership in the context of people management and how this relationship is important to contemporary organizations that have to manage ever-changing business contexts.

Change Management

Develops a critical appreciation of organisational change and the implications for devising, implementing and overseeing change.

The module explores forms of, and approaches to, change. This provides an appropriate platform to explore key related issues such as organisation culture, power and stakeholder implications, alternative organisational design options, and human reactions to change.

Entrepreneurship

Enhances your knowledge and decision making abilities needed to develop businesses in new and innovative ways. The module builds an appreciation of the need for an entrepreneurial mind-set across different contexts including commercial enterprises, family-owned businesses, social enterprises and public social partnerships operating at national and international levels.

Developing Personal and Professional Competence

Enables students to identify, understand, develop and articulate their key personal abilities in the context of their future career aspirations. Students will be invited to use the concepts of personal and professional competence development and relate it to what they are experiencing outside the classroom in order to be better prepared for their personal and professional life.

Research Project: Design and Methods

Introduces students to research approaches and time management skills essential for their research project. The module provides essential knowledge of research design across key areas and adopts a critical perspective in comparing and contrasting alternative research models.

Dissertation

The final element of the programme is the dissertation, which provides you with an opportunity to design and undertake a piece of original research in a selective area of Management or Business Development.

Professional Accreditations

This programme is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). Students are eligible for Associate Membership whilst studying on the programme, and subject to CMI approval, may also be awarded a CMI Diploma Level 7 in Strategic Management and Leadership.
