The MA International Fashion Marketing brings together two disciplines for which Regent’s is internationally renowned – fashion and marketing – to provide future fashion marketing managers and directors with the practical and intellectual skills to lead and succeed in the vibrant and fast-changing fashion industry.

In an era of massive digitalization in which individuals have indirect communications through the intermediary of a screen, it is psychologically reassuring to believe that the construction of one’s style mirrors its representation as an individual. However, just like any other languages, Fashion has a myriad of nuances and facets that render any reading and interpretation much more complex.

The main objective of the MBA in Fashion Business at IFA Paris is to equip its postgraduate students with keys to decipher the ever changing fashion industry. Delivered since 2008, the course has been completely revamped in order to take full advantage of IFA Paris’ heritage and cultural specificities.

The philosophy of the MBA in Fashion Business revolves around 3 pillars:

Discovery:
Students are being immersed in a workshop environment allowing them to get an intensive and practical training based on each development stage of a fashion collection, from inception to commercialization.

The development of special seminars in haute couture, fashion trade shows, celebrity endorsements and fashion ethnography are “windows” into unique activities or phenomenon of the fashion industry. Finally, from inception to graduation, and regardless of their location, Postgraduate students of IFA Paris will benefit from the support of a unique department called the “Career and Alumni Center”. The industry relation arm of IFA Paris’ academic programs is in charge of organizing bi-weekly guest lectures and field trips to attune our students with the fashion pulse. They will have access to exclusive brand launch events, fashion shows, art exhibitions or professional trade-shows in order to build their own professional network. The Career and Alumni Center accompanies IFA Paris students even after graduation by linking them with its strong alumni network composed of individuals originating from 50 different countries. Our Fashion Business course covers a wide range of modules clustered into five main module groupings:

Marketing and Management:

This grouping encompasses a series of modules that will be sequentially planned based on the structure of a marketing plan. The overall body of knowledge acquired by the students will prepare them to:

Analyze complex marketing challenges based on practical case studies
Allocate resources strategically to achieve pre-determined objectives
Craft brand DNAs allowing for the achievement of a sustainable competitive advantage

Business Issues:

The capacity to listen and interpret markets’ signals is a key component of today’s managers. It needs to be continuously cultivated. Within this module grouping students will discover the idiosyncrasies of the fashion industry from an economic and financial view point.

Distribution and Retail:

The emergence of fast fashion retailing and the exponential growth of online commerce have changed the distribution landscape for fashion houses. This module grouping explores the importance of selecting the right distribution strategies as well as creating a positive shopping environment to achieve an efficient customers’ return rate.

Fashion Environment:

Programs focusing on Fashion Business traditionally put the emphasis on analyzing strategic and marketing challenges. The MBA Fashion Business at IFA incorporates a more creative accent, sourcing inspiration from the school’s roots in Fashion Design. In this module grouping students will learn and experience first-hand about the different steps involved in the creation of a cohesive collection.

Fashion Lifestyle:

STUDY TRIPS

Students will take part in an international study trip of one week in one European Fashion Capital. They will have the opportunity to meet with leading industry professionals and visit companies in the fashion, design and luxury industries.

During the company visits students will work on a project relating to one of these industries and in alignment with their future career ambitions.

INTERNSHIP

Each student will undertake an internship of a minimum of three months in a company of their choice at the end of the classroom part of the program. The internship will contribute directly to the content of the Final Management Project and may take place anywhere in the world.

FINAL MANAGEMENT PROJECT

The second year of the program is dedicated to the Final Management Project which will be undertaken under the supervision of a GGSB professor.
Students will focus on a management aspect of the fashion, design and luxury industries; they are also encouraged to choose the subject of the Final Management Project in coherence with their future career goals. It is possible to complete the project in parallel with an employment or an internship in France or abroad.

FOREIGN LANGUAGES

Foreign language skills are essential in a globally competitive business environment. The program is taught in English, and no prior knowledge of French is required to attend the program. Students have the possibility of learning French or another foreign language such as Spanish or Chinese during the program.
This language component, although not compulsory, is highly recommended for students who intend to pursue an international career, since companies in the Fashion, Design and Luxury industry are currently recruiting personnel speaking the language of the country in which they are based, in addition to English and in-demand languages like Chinese or Russian.

The optional fashion track within the Master of Arts in Global Communications (MAGC) addresses this misperception. It offers courses taught by theorists of fashion and professionals in the field. Students get the chance to explore the many facets of fashion communications.

From traditional to cutting-edge

The specialized fashion track of MAGC provides an in-depth background applicable to careers in traditional fashion communications, as well as in several expanding and cutting-edge aspects of the industry including:
-The marketing of global luxury brands.
-The rise of ethical fashion, such as cause-related marketing, Labor Behind the Label, and sustainable consumption.
-NGO fashion and textile production for sustainable development.
-Cultural implications of globalized fashion.
-The digital revolution in fashion journalism and marketing including blogs and websites.
-Fashion centers and cities worldwide.

Students take introductory background courses which provide theories and models to prepare them for study of specific fashion issues in modules. These modules are taught by visiting professionals and researchers, top in their fields.

This specialized knowledge will be supplemented by and integrated with courses for the Master of Arts in Global Communications.

Structure of the specialized track

As in the regular MA in Global Communications program, coursework can be completed in three semesters, including the summer. The length of the internship or thesis may vary, however—many students choose to take additional time for these components. The program requirements for the MAGC Fashion Track are as follows:
-Four core courses (16 credits)
-Four fashion modules (8 credits)
-Two courses out of a list of seven core options (8 credits)
-Two electives chosen from any of the Global communications graduate course offerings (8 credits)

Core courses focus on the fundamentals of global communications—and particularly how they relate to the fashion industry and fashion theory. Combine creative and business knowledge and skills to develop a solid understanding of the fashion industry in this international, inter-disciplinary course.

Content

Please note: This course will run at Level 6, which is equivalent to the final year of a BA Honours degree, and is a preparatory course for students who want to study at postgraduate level, but currently need further knowledge and skills before being eligible for postgraduate study. A one-year conversion course for students who have a 2.1 or higher first degree in an area unrelated to fashion management, this course will enable students who come from different paths of study to progress onto fashion management postgraduate courses or enter employment.

The international student body on the Graduate Diploma Fashion Management, reflects the internationalisation of the fashion industry. Students are encouraged to draw on their own experience to develop a global understanding of the relevant dynamics affecting the fashion industry. Drawing on the field of International Business, Marketing, Operations Management and Creative Management, this inter-disciplinary course will cover a wide range of topics, including the establishment of the fashion industry, its internationalisation drivers, product development and product life cycles, fashion forecasting, fashion marketing and marketing communications with a specific focus on social media, consumer behaviour and fashion branding.

This provides students with a rich and stimulating learning experience from which to progress, culminating in a final project that is self-negotiated and relevant to their future aspirations. Many students progress onto MA study while others move into employment, defining and establishing their roles within the sector including positions in PR, marketing, management and product development.

Structure

The Fashion Language and Context unit (20 credits) enables students to locate their own work within global economic, social, cultural and technological contexts. Southampton Solent’s MA Creative Direction for Fashion and Beauty programme offers students a unique opportunity to build the image-making, creative thinking and project management skills required to thrive in this prominent role.

The course examines a wide range of processes and practices found in high-level creative leadership, helping students to develop an expert understanding of fashion and beauty imagery within the contexts of culture, ethics and sustainability.

It has become a global cultural and social phenomenon, and advertising, photography, magazines and events are a main part of this shift. The recent changes in digital communication tools and social media have led to words and images becoming even more pivotal to it, yet have also made this system increasingly complex and hard to control.

Our Global Fashion Media MBA was specifically designed to address these changes. It is mainly aimed at students or young professionals from a wide range of backgrounds who are interested in careers related to visual representations and communications, journalism, advertising, photographic styling, artistic direction, e-commerce, public relations, photography, and even digital technologies and social media management, either in the fashion world or in the creative industries at large.

This course has 3 main objectives :
Enriching our students’ fashion, visual and media culture with modules such as « Fashion Photography History » that puts in perspective the historical changes in visual representations of fashion and makes the connection with other creative fields, or « Fashion 2.0 » that focuses on the latest developments in digital communication.

Helping our students understand the strategic challenges faced by fashion companies and brands and the role of communication tools in it. This program ends with what we call the Capstone Project, an individual research and creative project. When working on the Capstone, each student is encouraged to appropriate specific topics of the MBA Global Fashion Media according to his or her own professional projects and areas of interest.

Moving from the Paris to the Shanghai campuses allows students not only to compare the sectorial differences between mature and emerging markets, but also to better understand the impact local cultures can have on communication and image production.

In both cities, students have the opportunity to attend a wide range of events, from meeting with professionals, attending fashion shows, exhibitions and professional fairs to taking company tours, thus allowing them to build their own professional network. The Career and Alumni Centre is also there to offer guidance to IFA Paris students and alumni, and brings together a large network of graduates and alumni from over 50 different nationalities.
