The Hydroinformatics and Water Management (Euro Aquae) MSc applies advanced information and communications technology to the management of water. You will foster a common international technical culture with students from all over the world, drawing upon the resources and expertise of universities across Europe.

The course offers a joint degree between five European universities as a part of the Erasmus + co-operation and mobility programme. Running since 2004, it is one of the most successful courses in this programme and in 2016 it was approved for a third term of funding. The partner universities are:

You will receive quantitative training in hydrology, hydraulics and modern information communication technology (ICT) within the context of water management.

Delivery

You will study modules up to a total of 120 European Credits Transfer System (ECTS) credits, including 36 ECTS credits at a partner institution. Lectures and tutorials at partner institutions are taught in English. The course spans four semesters over two years:
Semester one - an introduction, bringing you and other students to a common level of ability in key technical areas. Studied at any partner university except Newcastle.

Semester two - the acquisition and use of hydroinformatic concepts, methods and tools. Studied at Newcastle

Semester three - thematic specialisation including: software engineering and modelling (Cottbus); groundwater management (Warsaw); decision support systems (Catalonia); and urban waters management (Nice). Studied at any partner university except Newcastle

Semester four - a research development project or professional practice in industry, available at all partner institutions

Accreditation

The course is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) (comprising ICE, IStructE, CIHT and IHIE), as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for students with an Accredited CEng (Partial) BEng Honours degree or Accredited IEng (Full) BEng/BSc Honours degree.

The master program addresses candidates graduated by an bachelor degree due to the following qualifications:

Graduates of the International Degree Course in Aviation Systems Engineering and Management (ILST).
Pilots with a related degree and practical experience.
Graduates with an acceptable degree in related areas like aircraft engineering, maintenance, or air traffic administration plus a practical experience.

Fluency in English is required. Students whose native language is not English must demonstrate English proficiency with the TOEFL exam (minimum of 220 points computer-based or 560 paper-based) or an equivalent test like the IELTS (at least 6,0). The complete application documents must be submitted not later than August, 31st. Applications must consist of: a registration form, a Curriculum Vitae, a photograph, proof of his or her university degree, the address and telephone number (e-mail address, if available) to which all correspondence should be sent.

Target Group

The postgraduate course MBA in International Tourism Management offers compulsory subjects only, all of which focus on the systematic preparation of future managers for the various tasks within international tourism management in a global environment. In order to address the complexities in coordinating the different tourism-related industries and to fulfill the need to upgrade skills in this sector, training needs to be improved.

Degree

The MBA in International Tourism Management is completed with the master's examination which is taken after two semesters. Students are required to write their master´s thesis at the end of the second semester when all modules have fully been covered. The thesis has to be defended in an oral exam. In case a student does an internship after the second semester the oral exam takes place after the third semester.

The overall grade incorporates results obtained from exams during the course as well as the evaluation of the master´s thesis. Upon successful completion of the course students are awarded the degree of "Master of Business Administration (MBA)".

At SOAS, students benefit from the unique expertise in this vast field possessed by the school’s faculty.

This expertise is available to students interested in studying these literatures through English - including both original English language literatures of Africa and Asia and literature written in African and Asian languages presented through English translations.

While exploring new horizons and breaking out of the Euro-centric space in which comparative literature has developed so far, the course covers the major theoretical contributions made by Western scholars.

In doing so, it constructs a unique multi-cultural domain for the study of literature and its location in culture and society.

The Euromasters programme is a truly international experience with regard to teaching, learning and living.

Our programmes are modular, consisting of self-contained units, taught and assessed on a semester basis. As you progress through each semester and successfully pass the units, you will receive credit providing you with a clear indication of your academic progress.

Teaching at Bath takes the form of lectures, classes and seminars. Lectures are quite formal, whereas classes and seminars involve more formal interaction between the lecturer and a small number of students. These methods may vary across the consortium according to cultural practices.

Methods of assessment

Assessment consists of a combination of coursework essays, class exercises, projects, oral presentations and examinations.

Overview

The MSc Finance programme has been a highly successful programme, with many of its graduates attaining high-level positions in major financial institutions. Furthermore, several of its graduates have gone on to complete PhDs in Finance, Economics and Accountancy.

The degree is an intensive 9-month programme with six taught modules and a dissertation. Most of the modules are taught by members of faculty, but in order to further enhance the quality of the programme, we have two visiting professors who teach intensive one-week courses. Professor Stephen Hall (Imperial College, London) teaches on the Research Methods in Finance module. Professor Lawrence White (University of Missouri) teaches the Money and Banking module.

Careers

The MSc Finance is designed to provide students with the academic knowledge and skills necessary to obtain employment with leading financial institutions or government agencies. Graduates have been very successful securing jobs in the following areas: banking, fund management, broking, program trading, management, corporate finance, economic research and financial regulation.

Programme Structure

September – January

Financial Strategy
This module provides students with the basic applied microeconomic skills required for a career in modern financial markets. Typical topics include: basic consumer choice theory, including intertemporal choice and choice under uncertainty; financial market problems associated with asymmetric information; insurance contracts, and investor signalling and screening.

Research Methods in Finance
This module is designed to give students both theoretical and practical experience of statistical and econometric techniques. The module will acquaint students with a range of modern econometric techniques, which are an essential part of modern advanced empirical research.

Corporate Finance
The aim of this module is to familiarise students with the primary theoretical and empirical issues confronting the modern corporation when making decisions about investment, capital structure, dividends and mergers.

January – April

International Finance
This module is designed to develop a rigorous understanding of international financial markets. Emphasis is placed on the theoretical basis for pricing such assets as forward exchange rates. Recent international monetary events such as the establishment of the euro are studied extensively.

Options, Futures and Other Derivative Securities
This module provides students with a rigorous theoretical understanding of derivative instruments. The course includes the following topics: the theory of futures markets; futures contract pricing; pricing of interest rate and stock index futures; the theory of option pricing.

Money and Banking
This module provides students with an understanding of modern banking and other financial institutions. The emphasis is placed on policy issues such as: the regulation of financial institutions; the determination of the value and quantity of both private and fiat money; the proper role of central banking, government macroeconomic policies, affecting output and employment; and fixed verses floating exchange rates.

April – June

Students are assigned supervisors and have to undertake an original piece of empirical finance research. Examples of topics researched by past students include: mergers, the IPO market, corporate governance, capital structure, dividends, cre dit unions, foreign exchange markets, financial market behaviour, option and futures pricing, bank regulation and financial history.

Assessment

Students will be assessed by course work, which will include individual assignments, group exercises, class tests, independent learning activities, and a dissertation.

Accounting and Security Valuation
This module provides a framework for assessing the usefulness of accounting information and accounting regulation for external users and management. Theoretical and practical accounting issues will be highlighted by considering specific accounting issues. The usefulness of financial statement information for valuation purposes will be examined and explored through the use of case studies and statistical analysis of share price and accounting data.

Research Methods in Finance
This module is designed to give students both theoretical and practical experience of statistical and econometric techniques. Accounting and Capital Markets
This module integrates material in the accounting and securities valuation module with investment management decision making. The main areas covered include the theoretical economic underpinnings of capital markets, the role of firms’ disclosure in equity markets, the role of information intermediaries, value investing, and market microstructure.

Performance Management and Governance
The module explores the role and application of strategic performance management and governance in organisations. Theoretical and practical performance management and governance issues will be examined in both businesses and not-for profit organizations (NFPOs) primarily through the use of published research papers. Through this, the usefulness of a variety of research methods will be examined, including qualitative research utilising case studies and interviews.

Programme structure

The Masters in International Relations and European Politics (MIREP) may be taken full-time (one year) or part-time and includes PG Certificate and PG Diploma qualifications.

The first semester comprises an advanced introduction to the core elements of the field of International Relations.

The second semester encourages the student to focus on the department’s key strengths in conflict and security, European studies, politics and society.

Students prepare a dissertation during the final three months of the programme, drawing on core ideas in undertaking a more sustained piece of research on a question that they themselves identify.

◾Computer systems are frequently compromised by the efforts of opportunistic hackers. In many countries, legislation is forcing companies to take information security more seriously. Information security requires a clear understanding of relevant technological, social, and organizational issues, as well as the relationships between them.
◾The programme includes a thorough grounding in professional software development, together with experience of conducting a development project. The programme will prepare you for a responsible position in the IT industry.
◾The School of Computing Science has extensive contacts with industrial partners who contribute to several of their taught courses, through active teaching, curriculum development, and panel discussion. Recent contributors include representatives from IBM, J.P. Morgan, Amazon, Adobe and Red Hat.
◾During the programme students have an opportunity to develop and practice relevant professional and transferrable skills, and to meet and learn from employers about working in the IT industry.
