Much of the teaching on the course takes the form of interactive workshops, but there are also lectures from staff and visiting speakers. Lectures, discussions, role-play exercises and seminars are linked with selected case studies and assessments to strengthen your practical analysis and decision-making skills. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills in working as part of a team through structured group assignments.
Teaching staff at the Business School are academic researchers and/or from an industry background with an in-depth practical experience of business and management issues. Visiting speakers from business, industry, consultancies and research bodies provide further input.
Each module is assessed individually, generally on the quality of written or visual presentation work, and to some extent on verbal presentations. Assessment methods may include reports, seminar papers, formal written examinations, in-class tests, project work, visual and verbal presentations, workshops, simulations, oral exams (viva) and practical exercises. The majority of assessments are based on individual assignments, but there is some assessed group work.

We offer an International Business in Practice Study Trip module. The purpose of this study trip is to give postgraduate students a hands-on, intensive experience with the ideas and practices of global business. The programme will include presentations from local management executives and experts. Students will have direct interaction with management executives and practices through site visits to major corporations and agencies.
This study trip is voluntary and all costs associated with the trip will need to be funded by you. It is not linked to university assessments in any way. In year one you’ll explore successful enterprise and entrepreneurship and their role in society worldwide. You’ll explore how enterprise is seen around the world, and how different geographical and economic contexts create challenges for new ventures.
You’ll consider contemporary challenges and debates during guest lectures with successful entrepreneurs, hearing first-hand about their experience of the latest topics. You’ll also have the opportunity to apply what you have learned to your own business idea or an existing business, whilst drawing on their expertise.
In year two, you’ll take an in-depth look at social enterprises and alternative business models, including how best to grow an existing small business.
You’ll also work alongside our full-time students on a consultancy project for a local small-medium enterprise, building relationships with the founders and staff (you can read a student case study about a recent project). Some examples of recent projects include: ‘helping an ethical gifts retailer turn their sales performance around’; ‘undertaking a market and brand analysis for a luxury camping business’ and ‘researching the Jordanian and Indian market for a healthcare software company’.
You’ll be introduced to research methods, developing understanding of how to gain important market insights and analyse the viability of a business idea.
In the final semester of year two, you’ll complete the Enterprise Dissertation, an individual project that can be used to explore opportunities for your own business venture, develop a plan for growth in an existing business you are connected to, or to research in-depth an area of interest.
This part-time course enables existing entrepreneurs to continue to develop their business, whilst professionals and budding entrepreneurs can work alongside their studies. Combining work and study can often be to your advantage, since the experiences gained in your professional life will add depth and relevance.
You’ll study over two years, attending classes for one day per week from late September to early May with one-month breaks at Christmas and Easter. In year one, you'll also study for five days across June and early September. In year two, you’ll attend meetings with your dissertation supervisor from April to September. You can expect to attend for approximately 27 days in year one and 17 days in year two (plus dissertation meetings).

We use a variety of different teaching methods such as lectures, small group seminars, personal tutorials, consultancy fieldwork, market research fieldwork, and company visits. Independent study is also vital to this programme, allowing you to develop your skills and prepare for taught sessions and assessments.
You’ll also be assessed using a range of techniques including exams, group projects, written assignments and essays, in-course assessment, group and individual presentations and reports.
Given the ever-increasing volume of data that businesses have access to today, there is a demand for employees who have computational and analytical skills and who can help inform business decisions to increase efficiency and ultimately build a competitive edge. Our Masters in Business Analytics has been developed with just that in mind and aims to train students to understand the variety of business environments as well as importance and relevance of decision problems facing organisations and ways of solving these using a variety of techniques.
Students will learn how to apply descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics of big data concepts and techniques to generate valuable insight that can assist with decision making. Last, but not least, the Masters will provide students with hands-on experience in applying these concepts and using these techniques and most of the popular analytics software through their projects including industry projects. In sum, the programme aims to equip students with the skills required to interpret, conceptualise and convert Big Data into useful information and thus enabling students to make better informed decisions as future business managers.

The Dissertation: Each student conducts an individual research project on a subject within business analytics, chosen in consultation with an academic supervisor. MSc candidates write up their work as a Dissertation (maximum 15,000 words with a maximum of 10% margin either way), which is submitted by the end of August. It is anticipated that the demand for data analytics employees will continue and indeed grow as analytics is viewed as a key competitive resource by many companies. If market forecasts are anything to go by then the Big Data technology and services market will grow at a 26.4% annual growth rate to $41.5 billion through 2018, or about 6 times the growth rate of the overall information technology market (Source: IDC). This will inevitably lead to further growth of the market for employees in the area of data analytics.
The new MSc in Business Analytics will offer students from a range of degree backgrounds the opportunity to equip themselves with an artillery of concepts, methods and applications of business analytics along with hands-on and practical experience in applying them to industry projects in different business settings. It is not just about being able to analyse and digest the data available but to then translate this into effective decision-making. In sum, we expect the new programme to open a range of career pathways in analytics for our graduates including business consultants, business analysts, business intelligence & analytics consultants, metrics & analytics specialists, analytics associates, data analysts, solution architects, business process analysts, management consulting associates, and operational research consultants.
The Master in International Business Economics and Management (MIBEM) is a master program for holders of a degree in a non-business economic or management discipline. It prepares for a career in international business through the acquisition of business economic insights, knowledge and management skills.
The curriculum adopts a practical and business-oriented perspective, but still provides a thorough treatment, based in science, of major international business economic and management issues.
As a master of science program, MIBEM relies on insights from scientific research. Its primary purpose is not to prepare graduates for an academic career, but to foster an attitude of autonomous, critical and informed reflection in the search for solutions to concrete business problems. The program instills an international and business- and management oriented mindset in individuals educated in diverse backgrounds.
Students who have direct access, can follow the one-year Master's programme. Those who have no direct access, must first follow the 30 credits preparatory programme from September till January and start the Master's programme in February. They can finish the programme in January of the following academic year.
The ideal prospective student:
Students with no economics background are first, if necessary, introduced to the basics of economics and management in a 30 ECTS preparatory programme.

The MIBEM programme prepares students for management positions in a number of sectors. Obviously, your personal interest and prior education play a major role in your post-graduation path. Our graduates find employment in a broad range of sectors, including purchasing, sales, marketing, production control, planning and budgeting, financial management and ICT. Other graduates go on to a career in banking and insurance, become civil servants, work in one of the European institutions, or set up their own company.
